We expected 2005 to be a pivotal year for Meadow Valley, and it was. We believe that our performance in 2005 shows what Meadow Valley is capable of achieving when we focus all of our resources on our most profitable geographic markets in both our construction services and construction materials businesses. Net income for 2005 increased to a record $4.5 million (before deduction of minority interest), shattering our previous net income record of $2.3 million set in 1999. For 2004, net income was $0.6 million. Revenue increased 10% to $184 million from $167 million in 2004. Our construction services segment generated net income of $1.7 million for 2005 compared to a net loss of $1.9 million for 2004. Key to this turnaround was the successful implementation of our three-step plan to: - Focus on our historically most profitable locations -- Arizona and Southern Nevada -- and exit New Mexico; - Manage our projects more effectively by reducing costs and insuring payment for work performed; and - Improve the quality of our estimates at the time of the original bid. The result was that we completed the Gooseberry project in Utah with no additional losses -- we lost $5.2 million on this project in 2004 and $2.5 million in 2003. And perhaps more important from the point of view of the long-term health of the business, about half of our other projects outperformed their original bid gross profit, and half as many projects lost money in 2005 than in 2004. Bradley E. Larson has been a director of the Company since 1994 and was appointed President in July 1995 and Chief Executive Officer in November 1995.
