C&J Clark Ltd.

Roger Pedder is Chairman of C&J Clark Limited (Clarks Shoes), one of the UK's largest private family companies. It was established in 1825 and is in its sixth generation. Clarks is the leading shoe retailer and brand in the UK and has significant positions in North American, European and Far Eastern markets. He is also Chairman of Silentnight Group Limited and Ethel Austin Retail Limited, both of which are private companies. His background is primarily in retail and he is probably best known otherwise for turning round Halfords in the 1980's, founding and developing Pet City in the 1990's and rescuing Robert Dyas and selling the company to Change Capital Partners for 61.3 million in 2004. His interest in family businesses is considerable and he does substantial lay work for unquoted companies. He is also a member of the University of Bath Council.

Nigel Hall FCA trained as a chartered accountant. He joined the Burton Group (renamed Arcadia Group plc following the demerger of Debenhams in January 1998) in 1984, being appointed to its Board in August 1997 and becoming Group Finance Director in November 1997, a role he continued in until March 2003. He is currently a non-executive director of Unite Group plc, Countrywide Farmers plc and C & J Clark Limited, and Chairman of the Remuneration and Nomination Committees of Pinewood Shepperton plc.
