Wallace E. Maloney is the founder of and is now of counsel to the law firm of Maloney, Bean and Horn P.C. in Irving, Texas. He has litigated aviation crash and product liability cases for more than thirty-six years and has been lead defense counsel in a number of airline disaster cases in various venues in the United States. He served as the head of the United States' Justice Department's aviation defense unit for four years and was one of the original attorneys assigned to that unit at its formation. He is a licensed pilot with a commercial, multi-engine, instrument rating and is a long time member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators. In addition to his membership as an attorney in several state bar associations, he is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been an active defense trial lawyer throughout his career.

T. Patrick Ford, Jr., is the senior partner in Ford and Sinclair, P.A. He has been board certified in civil trial law by the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1983. Mr. Ford has lectured nationally on medical malpractice and nursing home abuse for the American Institute of Medical Law, the American Gerontologial Society and the Flordia Medical Directors Association and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is a former director of the Dade County and Coral Gables Bar Asociations, a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and a sustaining member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Ford graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1965 and Columbia Law School in 1968. he joined the U.S. Navy JAG Corps in 1969 and served as a military judge in Pensacola and Key West, Florida until he entered private practice in Miami in 1973. Robert J. DiPasquale, CPA, CFE, is the director of the litigation services department and works in the Parsippany, New Jersey office of the Videre Group, L.L.P. His primary area of expertise is in forensic accounting and fraud-related matters. Bob is the past chairman of the board of regents of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and is a three-term past president of the New Jersey chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He has been retained to perform investigative services in cases involving embezzlements, criminal and civil matters including tax evasion, money laundering, Ponzi and investment schemes, as well as kickbacks, healthcare fraud, loan fraud, bankruptcy fraud, stockholder disputes, matrimonial and malpractice issues and in areas of economic damage computations. He has been appointed by the U.S. Trustees' office as an examiner, and by the courts as a forensic accountant. Bob has authored numerous articles, and has lectured extensively. Al Ristuccia is an owner and principal of Larsen AVR Group, Inc., a California corporation. He is retired from the IRS, Criminal Investigation Division, where he enjoyed more than twenty-two years as a special agent and supervisory special agent. Mr. Ristuccia has personally conducted and directed hundreds of investigations relating to a variety of matters including income tax fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, stock fraud, money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act violations. He has participated in many federal trials resulting from his investigative activities. His participation has included assisting government counsel to prepare for trials and grand jury proceedings. He has also testified extensively during trials and before federal grand juries. Mr. Ristuccia is currently in private practice with his partner, Lynda Larsen. They operate a full-service, private investigations firm that specializes in all aspects of litigation support, serious financial fraud investigations and internal corporate investigations. Short Biography: Betty Jean Hall, chief administrative appeals judge of the Benefits Review Board, was appointed by the Secretary of Labor in 1994. Before her appointment, she served as executive director of the Occupational Safety and Health Law Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, from 1988 to 1994, and as executive director and general counsel for the Coal Employment Project from 1977 to 1988. Judge Hall received her law degree from Antioch School of Law (J.D., 1976) and her undergraduate degree from Berea College in Kentucky (B.A., 1968).

Short Biography: Mr. Calvin L. Zemsky, P.E. (1936 to 1997) was the president of Florida Engineering Consultants, Inc., a forensic engineering firm in Miami, Florida and was a licensed professional engineer in the states of Florida, New York and Illinois. He held both a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Civil Engineering. He had over 35 years experience in the construction field, during which time he prepared hundreds of various types of construction accident claims. He also testified in hundreds of depositions as an expert witness. In addition, Mr. Zemsky served as president of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE) and was a council of engineering specialty boards certified diplomat in forensic engineering.
Charles Morris, CLI, has been a staff investigator for the firm of Tomar, Simonoff, Adourian, O'Brien, Kaplan, Jacoby and Graziano, P.C. of Cherry Hill, NJ since 1985. He was formerly employed for over thirty years by the DuPont Company as a mechanic and chief railroad inspector and served as a union representative for the Chemical Workers Association at DuPont Chambers' Works in Deepwater, NJ. Charles was instrumental in drafting and passage of the New Jersey Right to Know Act. He earned his certified legal investigator designation in New Orleans, LA in January 1995.

He was a human factors representative to the authoring committee of the 2000 edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Dr. Henry C. Lee, Ph.D., is the Chief Emeritus for Scientific Services in the Department of Public Safety for the State of Connecticut. He joined the University of New Haven in 1975 and created the school's forensic science department, receiving tenure three years later. He served as that state's Chief Criminologist from 1979 to 2000 and was the driving force behind establishing a modern forensic laboratory. He has received numerous awards for his work and has helped the police around the world with over 6,000 cases. In 1992, Dr. Lee was elected a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. He is an editor for seven academic journals, including the Editorial Board of the Journal of Forensic Sciences. He has authored or co-authored 18 books, major chapters and reports; and he has published approximately 200 articles in professional journals.

Dr. Howard A. Harris is currently the director of the Forensic Science Program at the University of New Haven. His educational background is in chemistry (A.B., Western Reserve University; M.S.; and Ph.D., Yale University) and law (J.D., St. Louis University). He was admitted to and has maintained his membership in the Missouri Bar. Dr. Harris was a research chemist for seven years before entering the forensic field as the director of the New York City Police Department Police Laboratory. After holding that position for twelve years, he moved upstate to become the director of the Monroe County Public Safety Laboratory in Rochester. He held that position for eleven years before taking early retirement to make a career change to academics. He assumed his current position at the University of New Haven in the fall of 1996. Dr. Harris and his wife, Carolyn, have one daughter who graduated from Northwestern University.
Howard M. Acosta has been a civil trial lawyer for over twenty years. He is board certified by both the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. A former Navy carrier and P-3 pilot, he also holds commercial instrument flight ratings. Mr. Acosta has obtained several multi-million dollar verdicts or judgments in aviation and medical malpractice cases. Prominent aviation cases include product defect claims involving the F-16 fighter, B-1 bomber, B-52 bomber, S-3 surveillance aircraft and numerous general aviation aircraft. Mr. Acosta obtained his law degree from the Florida State University in 1978. J. Denny Shupe is a partner in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office of Schnader, Harrison, Segal and Lewis, L.L.P. Mr. Shupe has lectured and presented papers on complex aviation and advanced trial issues for the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Lawyer-Pilot's Bar Association, Southern Methodist University Air Law Symposium, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Mr. Shupe also serves as an adjunct assistant professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and lectures in aviation law and related topics. Before joining the firm, Mr. Shupe served over ten years on active duty with the United States Air Force. Mr. Shupe is a command pilot and has accumulated over 4,400 flight hours as a military command pilot and ground and flight instructor on a variety of jet aircraft. He also served in positions as an operations research scientific analyst, wing executive officer and military aidede-camp to two Air Force general officers. Mr. Shupe retired as a lieutenant colonel and pilot in the United States Air Force Reserve after twenty-three years of service. He was recalled to active duty with the Air Force and decorated for service as a pilot during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Mr. Shupe is an active member of the Forum on Air and Space Law of the American Bar Association, the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and the Aviation Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Shupe is a vice-president and member of the board of directors of the USO of Philadelphia, Inc. Mr. Shupe was educated at the U.S. Air Force Academy (B.S., distinguished graduate), Arizona State University (M.B.A., Beta Gamma Sigma), the University of Pennsylvania (J.D., summa cum laude, and editor, University of Pennsylvania Law Review). Jeffery Richardson, Sr. attended Michigan State University from 1963 to 1967 and then had a brief career in professional football with the world champion New York Jets, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins. In 1970, Mr. Richardson started working in the loss prevention field as an investigator in distribution security for Pathmark Stores, Inc. After mastering distribution and transportation security, he entered the retail arena in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan, where he helped to develop Pathmark's in-house plainclothes security staff, which has grown from a staff of four to a present store detective staff of over 245. As the vice-president of loss prevention for Pathmark Stores, Inc., one of Jeff's duties is to keep Pathmark's Loss Prevention Department up-to-date with the most modern techniques and equipment available. Mr. Richardson was the treasurer of the Northern New Jersey Chapter of ASIS from 1995 to 2000, has served on FMI's Loss Prevention Committee, and was the chairman of the New Jersey Food Council's Loss Prevention Committee for four years. Currently, he is serving on the Certified Forensic Interviewer advisory committee for the Center for Interviewer Standards and Assessment, Ltd. (CISA).

John Boyd, Esq., is the managing attorney of Boyd and Kenter, P.C., of Kansas City and Sedalia, Missouri, a law firm exclusively devoted to representing injured individuals and their families. He is a former Missouri workers' compensation administrative law judge and is past chairman of the Workers' Compensation and Workplace Injury Litigation section of ATLA. He is a member of the board of governors and a sustaining member of the Workplace Injury Litigation Group and a former vice-president and current governor of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.
John C. "Rusty" Allman is a retired Navy fighter pilot and airline captain who has practiced aviation law since 1987. He became a fan of mediation during a five-year tour as grievance chairman representing the pilots of USAirways. In that period he reduced a backlog of over 200 grievances to near zero, obtaining over $30 million in settlements and awards for the pilot group, while improving labor-management relations by the introduction of interest based mediation. In 1996 Mr. Allman was asked by the National Mediation Board to set up an airline industry wide grievance mediation program. Over the past three years his program has received wide acceptance and he has participated in the successful settlement of hundreds of grievances on numerous airline properties.
In April 1993, Mr. Tiller became National Director of the Life Insurance Actuarial Consulting Practice of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. While responsible for a wide range of actuarial and general consulting activities, he maintains his leadership role in reinsurance. He is frequently asked to review reinsurance activities on behalf of KPMG's clients and others. Mr. Tiller is currently an independent consultant. Mr. Tiller was on the original Section Council of the Reinsurance Section of the Society of Actuaries. He has since been elected to another term on the council and has served as an officer during both terms on the Council. In between, he served on the Council of the Nontraditional Marketing Section Council, including terms as Vice-Chair and Chair. In the past, Mr. Tiller served as Chair of both the Program and Continuing Education Committees of the Society, as well as a member of many committees and task forces. Among these are the committees for Services to Members, Research Policy, and Professional Development and the first Task Force on AIDS. He chaired the ACLI's special task force on taxation of reinsurance transactions in the early 1980's and served on an Academy task force on risk classification. He is currently on the Council of the Futurism Section. Mr. Tiller is a frequent speaker or discussion leader at industry meetings, including both actuarial and non-actuarial groups. He was a faculty member for the Society's seminars on reinsurance in 1981 and 1988.
John J. Palmatier, Ph.D., is a retired Michigan state trooper and military officer. For seventeen years he served in the Forensic Science Division of the Michigan State Police as a lie detection-polygraph examiner. Following his graduation from Saginaw Valley State University, Dr. Palmatier completed an interdisciplinary doctoral program in social science with cognates in developmental and experimental psychology, and criminal justice. While a member of the Michigan State Police, Dr. Palmatier finished his collection and analysis of voice data and then worked for a short time for Integritek Systems, Inc. in Florida. Joseph T. Cook, a former Navy combat pilot, has published a number of articles relating to aviation litigation. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and George Washington University, Mr. Cook began his legal career in the aviation litigation unit of the U.S. Department of Justice. In 1976 he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California, and served as a judge pro-tem for the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1982 85. He has been an instructor for the U.S. Attorney General's Advocacy Institute and a lecturer for the University of Southern California Institute of Safety and Systems Management. Mr. Cook is admitted to the Virginia, California and the District of Columbia Bars, and has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Julius Bombet, CLI, CFE, was formerly with the Louisiana State Police and served as chief investigator for the Baton Rouge District Attorney's office for five years. He also has nine years of experience as a staff investigator for a large personal injury law firm. He served as national director of the National Association of Legal Investigators, Inc. (NALI) and as chairman and board member of the Louisiana State Board of Private Investigator Examiners, the state's investigative licensing authority. Mr. Bombet is the second vice-president for the National Council on Investigation and Security Services (NCISS). He was the recipient of the 1994 "Investigator of the Year Award" presented by the Louisiana Private Investigators Association. In 1998, the Global Investigators Network (GIN) presented their "Investigator of the Year Award" to him. In 1999, at the Northeast Super Conference, he was awarded the first "Julius Bombet Lifetime Achievement Award" for service to the investigative profession.
Kathlynn G. Fadely is Assistant Director of Aviation, Torts Branch, Civil Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. She received her B.S. in 1972 from the University of Georgia and her J.D. in 1976 from Emory University.
Kevin D. Murray, CPP, CFE, BCFE, has been solving electronic eavesdropping, security and counterespionage matters for business and government since 1973. His many written works include the electronic eavesdropping detection section of The Protection of Assets Manual; articles for Security Management magazine; and Business Snoops and the Top 10 Spybusting Tips They Don't Want You to Know. Laura Ferguson, CLI, has been a staff investigator for the Rochester, MN law firm of Muir, Heuel, Carlson and Spelhaug, P.A. since 1988. Short Biography: Louis C. Tripoli, M.D. His many interests include bioterrorism and emerging infectious diseases, forensic and correctional medicine. At the time of this writing, he has been deployed as a Public Health expert working with the U.S. Marines 4th Civil Affairs Group, with the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy. As a civilian, Dr. Tripoli holds the titles of Senior Vice-President of Correctional Medical Services, Chairman of Correctional Medicine Institute, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Infectious Diseases Division of Johns Hopkins University, and Adjunct Associate Professor at St. Louis University School of Public Health. He is board-certified in internal medicine and received a certificate in forensic medicine from the American College of Forensic Examiners. Dr. Tripoli obtained his undergraduate degree from Harvard and his doctorate of medicine from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also completed residency in internal medicine.
Ralph Haber, Ph.D., and Lyn Haber, Ph.D., formed their own consulting firm in 1988, Human Factors Consultants. In addition to business and military consulting, their legal consulting work includes problems of perception and memory, eyewitness testimony, and recovered memory, as well as human factors analyses of accidents, design, warnings and training. Both are adjunct professors of psychology at the University of California at Riverside and Research Associates in Psychology at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Between them they have published nine books and 275 scientific articles, and given 150 conference and convention presentations.
Lynn Wilson-Marks is recognized by state and federal courts as an expert in forensic document examination. She is the principal of Lynn Wilson-Marks and Associates of San Antonio, TX. Board certified and in practice since 1983, she is a past president of the Association of Forensic Document Examiners (AFDE) and has lectured extensively in the United States and Europe. Clients include attorneys, local and federal law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, corporations, medical professionals, security managers and investigators. She has published many papers for scientific, academic and legal disciplines, including two books published in the AmJur series. She served as a forensic consultant to Lawyers Cooperative Publishing from 1992 94. Currently, she serves as editorial assistant for the Journal of Forensic Document Examination.
Lynne Curtis, CLI, is a principal in Couger, Inc., an investigative firm in Vallecitos, NM, specializing in personal injury and criminal lawsuits. She is a licensed race-horse trainer with over thirty years' experience in the horse industry, and completed a solo cross-country horseback trip from Minneapolis to San Francisco in 1974. Her professional papers have been published and presented in various publications and conventions across the nation. She has served as a regional director of the National Association of Legal Investigators, Inc. (NALI), and was a member of, or chairperson of, NALI's certified legal investigator (CLI) committee from 1987 through 1994.
Marc S. Moller is a trial and appellate lawyer who has been a partner in the law firm of Kreindler & Kreindler LLP for more than twenty-five years. For most of his professional career he has represented plaintiffs in commercial aviation accident, mass disaster and other wrongful death and personal injury cases and won awards for them either through trial or settlement, many of which set records for recoveries in the jurisdiction in which the actions were filed. Mr. Moller is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, has been appointed Lead Counsel or Chairman of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committees in numerous mass disaster cases and served as Special Trial Counsel. Mr. Moller's extensive aviation litigation experience has led to awards and settlements in cases involving virtually every type of commercial and general aviation aircraft, corporate jet and charter aircraft, helicopters and military aircraft in operation today. His services also have been sought as a consultant to counsel in litigation brought outside of the United States when the United States jurisdiction requirements cannot be satisfied. Mr. Moller is presently the Plaintiffs' Liaison Counsel in tort litigation pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York arising from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. By virtue of his involvement in 9/11 related litigation he has gained a unique perspective into the legal and practical issues the threat of terrorism presents to the aviation industry. As Lead Counsel for plaintiffs, Mr. Moller has been responsible, among other things, for conducting pre-trial discovery, trial of the plaintiffs' cases, the cross-examination of critical defense witnesses and experts, and negotiating settlements. To enhance the likelihood of litigation success he has developed innovative dynamic computer generated demonstrative evidence to promote jury understanding of technical issues related to liability and damages the firm have been privileged to represent. In addition to aviation related matters, Mr. Moller has represented clients in a variety of complex cases involving securities and class actions, business and commercial torts as well as pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods. A November, 2005 appellate court decision won by Mr. Moller affirmed the highest pain and suffering award in a personal injury case in New York. In the landmark In re Sabin Oral Polio Virus Vaccine Litigation Mr. Moller was successful in recovering substantial damages for children and adults who contacted polio from the Sabin live oral polio vaccine. The trial and appellate court victory in In re Sabin established the liability of the United States Government for regulatory violations and has become one of the most cited cases defining the scope of "discretionary function" exception to the U.S. Government's tort liability.

Short Biography: Matthew J. Hassett is professor emeritus of mathematics at Arizona State University where he taught from 1966 to 1999. He worked in industry as health actuary from 1999 to 2005, and then returned to Arizona State to continue working with actuarial students. He has published papers in mathematical logic, mathematics education, finance and actuarial science. Dr. Hassett has co-authored an introductory statistics textbook, the probability textbook Probability for Risk Management and the ACTEX study guides for exams FM, MLC and MFE of the Society of Actuaries. He also has consulting experience in mathematical analysis of mortgage-backed securities and their derivatives. Dr. Hassett is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
Michael A. Gauger, Ph.,D., taught Mathematics, Probability, Statistics and developed an Actuarial Science program at UMass Amherst from 1971-2000. He has been an instructor for SOA Exam Prep Seminars since 1984 and is the author of the ACTEX Course 3 study manual. Michael C. McDermott has been working in the field of forensic audio analysis and voice identification since 1978. He has received training in forensic audio analysis from Rockwell International, Voice Identification, Inc., Kay Elemtrics, the Michigan State Department of State Police, the New York Institute of Forensic Audio to name just a few. Mr. McDermott is a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners. He is a past chairman of the Board of Recorded Evidence of the American College of Forensic Examiners, past chairman of the Voice Identification and Acoustical Analysis Subcommittee of the International Association for Identification, past chairman for the Certification Board for Voice Identification Examiners of the International Association for Identification. Michael L. Slack was born in Refugio, Texas in 1951. He was admitted to the Texas State Bar in1983 and is admitted to practice before the U. S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Ninth Circuits, the U. S. Michael S. Under Dr. Welner's leadership, The Forensic Panel has achieved his vision of presenting 'the last word' to retaining attorneys, opposing counsel, and the courts. Dr. Paul Green is a Research Professor in the Human Factors Division at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) and an adjunct faculty member in Industrial and Operations Engineering. He teaches several human factors courses including Automotive HumanmFactors and the Human Factors Engineering Short Course, a two-week summer course for practitioners. He has been at UMTRI since 1979 after he completed his Ph.D. (joint degree-Industrial & Operations Engineering and Psychology, University of Michigan). Paul's research concerns driver workload, the design of driver interfaces, especially for telematics (navigation systems, cell phones, and so forth) to promote safety and usability, and the development of guidelines for such.
Paul J. McAndrew, Jr. practices workers' compensation with the Paul McAndrew Law Firm of Coralville, Iowa. He received his J.D., with high distinction, form the University of Iowa in 1983. He has been a member of the Workplace Injury Group, 1997 date.
Peter F. Wade was a U.S. postal inspector for twenty-five years. At the time of his retirement he was assistant regional chief inspector for ciriminal investigations in the northeastern United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Previously, Mr. Wade was postal inspector in charge of the San Juan, Puerto Rico Division. For the past ten years he has been a private detective based in San Jose, Costa Rica and has specialized in due diligence investigations in Latin America.
Peter Hancock is Provost Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Psychology and at the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida. In his previous appointment, he founded and was the director of the Human Factors Research Laboratory at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of over 200 refereed scientific articles and publications and has edited numerous books including: Human Performance and Ergonomics in the Handbook of Perception and Cognition series, and Stress, Workload, and Fatigue. He is the principal investigator on the recently awarded Multi-Disciplinary University Research Initiative, on which he will oversee $5 million of funded research on stress, workload, and performance. His current experimental work concerns the evaluation of behavioral response to high-stress conditions. He is a fellow of and past president of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

Short Biography: Ray Calafell, Jr., Esq., received his doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Miami School of Law in 1977. Immediately thereafter he began practicing law as a plaintiff's attorney in Tampa, Florida. He joined a nationally renown Tampa plaintiff's firm in 1979 and remained with them as their Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act specialist and jury trial counsel for the next nine years. Opening his own firm in 1988, he has remained a specialist Longshore Act cases, including all of its extensions, Social Security disability cases, state workers' compensation act cases, and personal injury cases, representing only claimants. He is a member of the Florida Bar and the bars of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell and is included in their publication Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He is also included in the Florida Consumer Guidebook of Law & Leading Attorneys. He is board-certified in civil trial law by both the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Raymond M. Pierce retired as a Detective First Grade from the New York City Police Department in 1998. A longtime member of the NYPD, he had received an FBI fellowship in psychological profiling with the Behavioral Science Unit at the FBI National Academy. He then established the Criminal Assessment and Profiling Unit, and the Detective Bureau's Training Unit responsible for the yearly in-service training of NYC's three thousand detectives. He also was the primary lecturer and coordinator of the NYPD's Homicide Investigator's Course from 1986 to 1998. Mr. Pierce holds a bachelor's degree in behavioral science and a master's degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is a contributing author to the Criminal and Civil Investigation Handbook, second edition, and has been the subject of two books and numerous media interviews. Among the specialties of his firm, RMP International, are psychological profiling, equivocal and wrongful death evaluation, statement and document analysis, expert testimony, and corporate fraud. He is a consultant to corporate security and private investigators, and to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Ron A. Sprague is managing shareholder of the firm of Gendry and Sprague, P.C., in San Antonio, Texas. He holds a pilot's license issued in 1973, with a multi-engine and instrument rating, an engineering degree awarded by New Mexico State University, with honors, in 1976 and a law degree from the University of Texas in 1979. Steve Herman was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he attended Isidore Newman School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College, where he was awarded Citations of Excellence in the study of Milton and Shakespeare, and won the Eleanor Frost Playwriting Competition with his one-act play, The Phoenix Sleeps Tonight. Herman was then named Order of the Coif at Tulane Law School, where he graduated, Magna Cum Laude, in 1994. After graduating from Tulane, Herman clerked for Justice Harry T. Lemmon of the Louisiana Supreme Court. He now practices law in New Orleans, with the firm of Herman Herman Katz & Cotlar, LLP. Developing a broad civil practice, Herman has handled everything from highway defect and products liability cases, to fire and flood loss cases, to attorney fee disputes and employment cases, to special appellate work before the Louisiana Supreme Court and other courts of appeal. He has recently focused on commercial, class action, insurance coverage and professional liability cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Herman is the author of America and the Law: Challenges for the 21st Century, first published by Austin & Winfield in 1998, now available from Gravier House Press. He recently served as the President of the Civil Justice Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to the support of grassroots organizations that protect workers, consumers, children, the environment, and access to the courts. In 2001, he was presented with a special CJF President's Award, as well as a Wiedemann-Wysocki Award from the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He was recently named a 2007 Louisiana "Super Lawyer" in class actions and mass tort cases, and was a Finalist for TLPJ Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2005. An adjunct professor to the Loyola University School of Law, Mr. Herman has given numerous speeches on consumer fraud, tobacco, and managed care litigation; complex discovery, electronic discovery, and spoliation; preemption, privilege, trial preparation, deposition strategy, motion practice, class actions, and complex litigation. His works have been published in Winning Techniques of Successful Trial Attorneys, Tort Litigation, The Federal Lawyer, the Australian Products Liability Reporter, Sidebar, Louisiana Advocates, TRIAL Magazine and the Tulane Law Review. Steve Cain started AFTI, Inc. in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin following twenty-two years as a special agent and a forensic specialist with both the U.S. Secret Service and IRS National Crime Laboratories. AFTI offers a variety of forensic services, although the majority of requests are for the identification of questioned voice recordings or issues relating to audio or videotape recording authenticity (i.e,. tampering or editing evidence). Steve is also board certi ed as a questioned document examiner. Steve received his B.S. at the USFA Academy in 1967 and later completed two masters of forensic science degrees at George Washington University and Antioch School of Law. He has completed two years of a Ph.D. in criminology at the University of Maryland. He has attended numerous specialized courses of instruction in forensics throughout the U.S. and is both board certi ed and court quali ed (federal and state) in a variety of disciplines. A member of several international forensic organizations, Steve has published more than twenty articles in forensics, investigative, and legal journals and has been a guest speaker at numerous national/international conferences regarding forensic examination technique. He has testi ed in over forty states, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and Canada in both criminal and civil cases and has examined over 20,000 cases.

Stuart J. Starry has practiced law in Houston, Texas, since graduating from Vanderbilt Law School in 1986. For five years he defended airlines and aircraft manufacturers at Beirne, Maynard and Parsons, prosecuting preemption motions, removals, and appeals. He successfully represented the defendants in O'Carroll v. American Airlines, 863 F.2d 11 (5th Cir. 1989) cert. denied, 409 U.S. 1106 (1989) and Baugh v. Trans World Airlines, Inc., 915 F.2d 693 (5th Cir. 1990). In 1991, he joined Fleming, Hovenkamp and Grayson and until 1997 devoted much of his time to plaintiffs' aviation litigation and appeals. He successfully argued the landmark Fifth Circuit case of Hodges v. Delta Airlines, 44 F. 3rd 334 (5th Cir. 1995) (en banc), which overruled his previous victory in Baugh v. Trans World Airlines. In 1997 he established his own practice. He then successfully argued on behalf of the plaintiffs in another significant en banc preemption appeal, this time in the Ninth Circuit. See, Charas v. TransWorld Airlines, 160 F. 3d 1259 (5th Cir. 1998) (en banc). Mr. Starry is a frequent lecturer and writer on federal preemption. He continues to handle aviation cases and appeals, along with a broad spectrum of cases involving product liability, serious personal injury, commercial disputes, securities fraud, and mass torts.
Susan B. Meek, J.D., M.D., is a physician, attorney and mediator. She teaches mediation at the University of Houston Law School and has been a faculty member of the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center. She represents clients and engages in medical legal consulting for attorneys, physicians, hospitals and other allied medical personnel. In addition, she has been an expert witness for the Office of Hearings and Appeals dealing with medical issues, as well as an expert in fraud and abuse cases. Dr. Meek has been actively involved in negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Dr. Meek received her B.S. from the University of Illinois, her M.D. from Chicago Medical School, completed an internship at Mayo Clinic, a residency at Baylor and the University of Arizona and her J.D. at the University of Illinois Northern Campus. Thomas Crowley is a licensed private investigator in Florida and New York. He owns North American Investigation in Tampa, FL. A former owner of two full-service marine businesses in New York, he has also been a New York state trooper doing criminal investigations and supervising the narcotics squad in a ten-county area of upstate NY, as well as conducting gambling investigations. He has also investigated high-profile white collar crime and police corruption cases in major metropolitan areas of New York for the governor's office.
