Art Goldstein is the retired Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ionics, Incorporated, a world-renowned business and technology pioneer in the field of water purification. During his 32 years as CEO, Art led Ionics in its growth from a small R&D company to its position as the world leader in water desalination, purification and supply with over 4000 installations in 62 countries and 3,000 employees. General Electric purchased Ionics in early 2005 for $1.3 billion. Art is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He is a trustee as well as the Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Partners HealthCare System. He is a senior trustee at the California Institute of Technology, a trustee of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, an advisory council member of the Harvard Medical School-Partners HealthCare Center for Genetics and Genomics, and a member of the MIT Energy Initiative External Advisory Board. In addition, Art is a director of Cabot Corporation and A123Systems, Inc. He previously served as director of State Street Corporation, director and Chairman of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, director of Jobs for Massachusetts, trustee of Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care, member of the Visiting Committees at the Harvard Business School and the Harvard School of Public Health, and as president of the Rensselaer Council. Art is the holder of 18 U.S. patents in areas relating to the purification and processing of liquids. He received a BS in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware, and an MBA from Harvard University.

Mr. O'Brien retired in 2002 as the Chief Executive Officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation, a public insurance company. In addition to serving on our Board of Directors, he is a director of Cabot Corporation, a global specialty chemicals corporation, The TJX Companies, Inc., a discount retailer of apparel and home fashions, Abiomed, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of cardiovascular products, and a family of mutual funds managed by Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, an investment management advisory firm. From August 1989 to November 2002, Mr. O'Brien was President and Chief Executive Officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation. From 1968 to 1989, Mr. O'Brien held several positions at Fidelity Investments, including Group Managing Director of FMR Corporation (from 1986 to 1989), Chairman of Institutional Services Company (from 1986 to 1989) and Chairman of Brokerage Services, Inc. (from 1984 to 1989).
