He joined Calgon Carbon in February 2003 as vice president, general counsel and secretary. For the 15 years prior to joining Calgon Carbon, Mr. Mocniak was vice president, general counsel and secretary of Fansteel Inc., a public company headquartered in Chicago. Fansteel engaged in metal and aerospace component fabrication and chemical processing in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Canada, and Mexico. Bob O’Brien joined Calgon Carbon in 1973 and has subsequently held a number of technical, sales and marketing management positions in the U.S. and Europe. He was promoted to Senior Vice President, Engineered Solutions in 1999. In that position he was responsible for sales, marketing, design and manufacturing of systems that utilize technologies in carbon adsorption, ultraviolet light and advanced ion exchange separation. He also directed the Company’s information technology group. In 2002, Bob was named Senior Vice President, Global Business Development, with responsibilities for acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and alliances. In 2004, he spearheaded the $35.3 million acquisition of Waterlink Specialty Products, a leading provider of products, services and equipment related to activated carbon. Bob was also responsible for the company’s ultraviolet light division, new product development and the marketing and sales of Calgon Carbon’s consumer products. In 2005 he was named Senior Vice President, Americas. In his current position, Bob has responsibility for all manufacturing facilities in the U.S., as well as marketing and sales of all Calgon Carbon products and services in North and South America. In addition, he oversees the company’s research and development activities and global business development. Bob holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Since 2002, Gail Gerono has served Calgon Carbon as vice president investor relations, communications and human resources. Jim Sullivan joined the Senior Leadership Team in February 2008. Jim is responsible for our UV Business and Corporate Business Development. Jim has been with Calgon Carbon since 1996 when he joined us via the Advanced Separation Technologies acquisition. Since that time, his assignments have been mainly in our Equipment Technologies business segment. John P. Surma was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1954. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Mr. Surma joined Price Waterhouse LLP in 1976, and in 1981 he served in the Manchester, England, office of the Price Waterhouse United Kingdom firm. In 1987, he was admitted to the partnership. In 1983, Mr. Surma participated in the President’s Executive Exchange Program in Washington, D.C., where he served as executive staff assistant to the vice chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 1997, Mr. Surma joined Marathon Oil Company as senior vice president, finance & accounting. He was appointed president, Speedway SuperAmerica LLC in 1998, and senior vice president, supply & transportation for Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) in 2000. He was named president of MAP on January 1, 2001. Effective with the separation from USX Corporation, he became vice chairman and chief financial officer of United States Steel Corporation on January 1, 2002. He was named president in March 2003, and president and chief operating officer in June 2003. He was elected president and chief executive officer in 2004, and chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer in February 2006. Mr. Surma is a member of the board of directors of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation. He serves as vice chairman of the board of directors of the World Steel Association and held the title of chairman from 2006 through 2007. He is also a member of the board of directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute and previously served as chairman and vice chairman of the organization. Mr. Surma is also a current member of both the National Petroleum Council and The Business Council. Additionally, he is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and serves as the organization’s current chairman; is a member of Penn State University’s Board of Trustees and its Smeal College of Business’ Board of Visitors; and is chairman of the board of directors for the Allegheny County (Pa.) Parks Foundation.

Randall S. Dearth was named president and chief executive officer of LANXESS Corporation in July, 2004. Previously he had been president and CEO of Bayer Chemicals Corporation since 2003. Mr. Dearth joined Bayer in 1988 as a development chemist in the automotive coatings development laboratories. He then transferred to Bayer's Automotive Technical Center in a market development role. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Dearth was on assignment in Germany, where he was responsible for market development in Europe and Asia. Upon returning to the United States, he managed the coatings and colorants resins business before being named director of the division's monomers and adhesives business. Among other positions, he also was head of the global powder coatings business group. Mr. Dearth sits on the American Chemistry Council Board, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, and the United Way of Allegheny County. Most recently, he was named Chairman of the Warhol Museum Board and was appointed to Calgon Carbon Corporation's Board of Directors. In 2007, Mr. Dearth was recognized as an emerging top CEO with a Pittsburgh Business Times Diamond Award. Mr. Dearth holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hiram College, and a master's degree in polymer science and engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
