"Thomas W. Weisel is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Weisel Partners. Previously, Thom was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Montgomery Securities, a firm he founded in 1971, which was bought by NationsBank in 1997, currently named Bank of America.
Thom has been on the U.S. Ski Team Foundation Board since 1977, and was the Chairman from 1983 through 1994. Thom is also the founder and largest investor in the Discovery Channel (previously US Postal) pro cycling team, formerly led by Lance Armstrong, seven-time winner of the Tour de France, which he established 18 years ago.
Thom serves on the Boards of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He is also a member of the Stanford Endowment Management Board and the Chairman of USA Cycling Development Foundation Board.
Thom graduated from Stanford University with distinction and honors in Economics and obtained his MBA from Harvard."
Ajit Pai follows Applied Technologies at Thomas Weisel Partners. Previously, Ajit worked in Equity Research at Lazard, covering the communication equipment and component industries. Prior to that, he was a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Co., focusing on communications, financial services, and technology clients. Ajit received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Yale School of Management. At Yale University, he served as a John M. Olin Fellow conducting research on Markets and Regulatory Behavior and International Telecommunications, and attended the university as a Tata scholar. Prior to Portal Software, he served as CFO for Fusion Medical Technologies, and was responsible for all aspects of the company's IPO. Before Fusion, Mr. Spalding was the head of West Coast investment banking for Alex. Brown and Sons, which included supervision of the firm's Japan office. Dick was with Alex. Brown between 1991 and 1996, during which time he and Jim were partners. Mr. Spalding joined Alex. Brown, after a fourteen-year tenure at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, where he co-founded the firm's Palo Alto office, which grew from 2 to over 100 lawyers. He specialized in representing biotechnology companies, including IDEC Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Gen Pro, Inc., and Xoma, Inc., among others. He was previously an observer to the board at Align Technology [NASDAQ: ALGN], and currently serves as an observer to the board at Kai Pharmaceuticals and RoxRo Pharma and is a director at Emphasys Medical and SpinalMotion. Dick is a co-founder of SpinalMotion. He holds an A.B. with honors from Harvard College, and a J.D. with honors from Columbia Law School.

Michael G. McCaffery, age 53, is the Chief Executive Officer of Makena Capital Management. From 2000 to 2006, Mr. McCaffery was President and CEO of the Stanford Management Company (SMC), which was established in 1991 to manage Stanford University's financial and real estate investments. Previous to joining SMC, Mr. McCaffery was President and Chief Executive Officer of Robertson Stephens Investment Bankers from January 1993 to December 1999, and also served as Chairman from January 2000 to December 2000. Mr. McCaffery is a director of the Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital, Thomas Weisel Partners Group, Inc., Western Technology Ventures, Savvian, LLC and RS Investment Trust, and is a member of the Advisory Boards of Accel Ventures, Silver Lake Partners and Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Mr. McCaffery was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003, and his current term expires in 2009.
