Board of Directors
Dr. Lewy is the Richard H. Phillips Professor of Biological Psychiatry at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon. He is also a professor of ophthalmology and physiology/pharmacology. He serves as senior vice chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and is the director of the Sleep and Mood Disorders Laboratory at OHSU. Dr. Lewy is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of human chronobiology. He has made major contributions to the field of melatonin physiology and light as they relate to depression, seasonal affective disorder, jet lag, and sleep disorders. He is currently researching the effects of melatonin levels on the sleep and wake patterns of blind people.
Anwar is the founder of Katalytik Inc. Prior to this he was working in business development for UMass Memorial Healthcare one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the Northeast. There he was responsible for the launch of several new initiatives and was involved with quality improvement for multiple emergency departments. His experience also includes being a consultant to a venture capital firm, and a practicing physician trained in emergency and family medicine. He occasionally works at the Camino Medical Group in its urgent care division to maintain his clinical skills. Anwar received his AB (Phi Beta Kappa) and MHA from Cornell University, and his MD from University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Christen is Professor and Director of Preventive and Community Dentistry in the Department of Oral Biology at Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis. He is coauthor of a textbook, Primary Preventive Dentistry, 4th Edition, published in 1995. Dr. Christen is also an expert on smoking cessation and co-director of the Indiana University Nicotine Dependence Program. Dr. Christen retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force in 1980. Since then, he has been involved in many tobacco-related research projects, focusing on nicotine withdrawal therapy in dental practice and the effects of using smoked and smokeless tobacco. He is coauthor of the 1990 Surgeon General''s Report, "The Health Benefits of Smoking Cessation."
Dr. Natelson is a Professor in the Department of Neurosciences at the New Jersey School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Center in East Orange, New Jersey. This reviewer reported no financial conflicts.
Dr. Herman is an internist board-certified in geriatric medicine. She is a Professor of Medicine in both the Divisions of Gerontology and Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She has been at UNM since 1994. Dr. Herman graduated with both an MPH and MD degree from the University of Minnesota. She went on to obtain her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Minnesota and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where she also completed her fellowship in Geriatrics. Dr. Herman is an accomplished author, reviewer and speaker. She has written several abstracts and numerous articles for a variety of peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Rhoads serves as primary medical reviewer for adult health-related topics with a primary focus on endocrinology and cardiology. She also serves as the primary medical reviewer for a variety of medical test topics, including blood and urine tests, imaging tests, and biopsies.
Dr. Myer specializes in pediatric otolaryngology and is a well-known speaker, author, and editor on disorders of the ear, nose and throat. He is Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children''s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati and Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Myer has served as editor of "Pediatric Otolaryngology: Principles and Practice," published in the American Journal of Otolaryngology, since 1989.
Dr. Wood is an Associate Professor of Urology and Cancer Biology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. This reviewer reported no financial conflicts.
Dalia has worked with Camino Medical Group patients since 1999. She started as a student volunteer with the Lifesteps program in 1996. A valuable multi-lingual asset, Dalia also offers education to diabetic and cardiovascular patients in Spanish and Hebrew. Dalia works avidly now with our type 1 diabetic patients who request intensive insulin management. She has been trained to help people start on Insulin Pump Therapy. Dalia alsotreats all other diagnoses for MNT (medical nutrition therapy) one-on-one; she teaches type 2 diabetes and Heart Smart classes, and she is involved with nutrition program development and community outreach.
Dr. Carr is the Saltonstall Professor of Pain Research in the Departments of Anesthesia and Medicine at New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. A graduate of Columbia College and Columbia University, Dr. Carr trained in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and later at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he continued his training in internal medicine, endocrinology, and anesthesiology. He is a diplomate of the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Known internationally for his contributions to pain research, Dr. Carr co-chaired and drafted major portions of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research Clinical Practice Guidelines on Acute and Cancer Pain Management. He was principal technical consultant for the evidence report on cancer pain prepared by the Evidence-Based Practice Center at Tufts University School of Medicine and New England Medical Center and played a lead role in developing pain treatment programs at Massachusetts General Hospital and the New England Medical Center. He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Association for the Study of Pain publication Pain: Clinical Updates; he is lead editor for pain trials in the Cochrane collaborative review group on Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care; and he serves on editorial boards of several pain-related journals. He co-directs the master's degree program in Pain Research, Education, and Policy at Tufts University School of Medicine. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Pain Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the International Association for the Study of Pain, and on the Legislative Task Force on Pain of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Dr. Carr has published widely and is the recipient of many awards, including the Bernard Schoenberg Memorial Award, American Institute of Life-Threatening Illness and Loss, New York; a citation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for co-chairing the Acute and Cancer Pain Guideline Panels; selection as a Bonica Lecturer for the University of Washington; and honorary fellowship in the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the College of Anaesthetists of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr. Mendelssohn is chief and physician director of the Department of Nephrology at Humber River Regional Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is currently one of two Canadian principal investigators for the multinational Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Pattern Study (DOPPS). Dr. Mendelssohn has chaired the Nephrology Section of the Ontario Medical Association. He has also served as chair of the Specialist Coalition of Ontario, the Toronto Region Dialysis Committee, and the Professional and Public Policy Committee of the Canadian Society of Nephrology.
Dr. MacDonald is a professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta. His current research focus is translational research in eye genetics.
Dr. Simon is an internist with specialized training in gastroenterology at the Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals in Kingston, Ontario. He is a professor emeritus in the Department of Medicine at Queen''s University. In 2000 Dr. Simon received the Aesculapian Society Education Award, as he had earlier in 1995 and 1999. In 2001 he received the Aesculapian Society Phase IIE Teaching Award. He has also received the Basmajian Award for his research. Dr. Simon serves as a manuscript referee for a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Canadian Medical Association Journal, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, JAMA, the Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology. He is an active researcher and lecturer and is widely published in Canada and the United States.
Judy has been with Camino Medical Group since 2003. Judy loves working with children and teens in addition to all other mage groups. She currently teaches Heart Smart and Diabetes classes, and treats all other MNT (medical nutrition therapy) diagnoses one-on-one including pre-gastric by-pass patients. She will be assisting with the Support Group for type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Romito is a family medicine physician in Boise, Idaho. She is in private practice with the Primary Health Wellness Center, an innovative family practice based on prevention, self-care, and self-responsibility. She has served as an associate medical director for Healthwise, Incorporated, since July 2005.
Dr. Jones specializes in infertility, menopause, and reproductive hormones. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah School of Medicine since 1983 and was appointed Professor in 2000. Dr. Jones also serves as Vice Chair of the department and was appointed Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in 1997. Dr. Jones served as Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Utah. She has participated in a number of research projects and is the author or coauthor of numerous journal articles on gynecological topics and fertility.
Dr. Laurence M. Epstein is a cardiologist who specializes in cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Epstein''s clinical specialties include all areas of cardiac electrophysiology, including outpatient arrhythmia management, diagnostic, electrophysiologic studies, catheter ablation, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation, and pacemaker lead extraction. Dr. Epstein is the Chief of the Arrhythmia Service and Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Laboratory at Brigham and Women''s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Epstein is active in scientific research relating to the development and testing of new therapeutic approaches to the management of cardiac arrhythmias. He has co-authored a variety of articles published in leading medical journals, reports, and book chapters. Dr. Epstein has been invited to speak at numerous regional and national conferences.
Dr. Weinstock specializes in psychopharmacology and perinatal psychiatry at her private practice in Mount Kisco, New York. She is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, in which she has served as chairperson of the gender committee. Before going into private practice, Dr. Weinstock was coordinator of the Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Service Outpatient Department of New York Hospital, Westchester Division of Weill Cornell''s Department of Psychiatry. From 1993 to 1996 she was a consultant in psychopharmacology at the Center for Mental Health and Retardation in Woburn, Massachusetts. She is an accomplished speaker who has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences.
Dr. Gabica is a full-time medical director for Healthwise, Incorporated, in Boise, Idaho. In 1980, he was one of the founders of the Idaho Wellness Center, an innovative family practice based on prevention, self-care, and self-responsibility. He has served as an associate medical director for Healthwise since August 2004.
Dr. Burgess serves as primary medical reviewer for adult health-related topics such as Atrial Fibrillation, Pericarditis, Alzheimer''s Disease, and Pancreatitis. She also serves as the primary medical reviewer for a variety of medical test topics, including blood and urine tests, imaging tests, and biopsies. In cooperation with the Chief Medical Officer, she also serves as primary medical reviewer for the Healthwise Handbook.
Dr. Traughber is a radiologist with additional fellowship training in interventional radiology, body imaging, and musculoskeletal and body MRI. He is recognized for his pioneering work in musculoskeletal MRI as well as his work in diagnosis and prevention of osteoporosis. He has been on the staff of the St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center Radiology Department in Boise, Idaho, since 1987. Dr. Traughber has held academic appointments at the University of Washington as clinical faculty and the University of Utah as clinical associate professor of radiology. He is the author of numerous academic studies and reports focusing on interventional radiology, ultrasound, and musculoskeletal imaging.
Dr. Anderson is professor of urology and director of the Residency Training Program at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is on the medical staff at the IWK Health Centre and the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, both in Halifax.
Dr. Belitsky is a professor in the Department of Urology at Dalhousie University and director of Transplantation Services at Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has been the chairperson on many university and hospital committees. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at several universities in Canada and the United States. Dr. Belitsky has been a principal or co-investigator for multiple transplantation studies. He also has been an invited speaker at numerous medical conferences in Canada and the United States. Dr. Belitsky is the chairperson for the Canadian Council for Donation and Transplantation and was the Co-chairperson for the National Coordinating Committee on Organ Tissue Donation, Distribution and Transplantation. He is a member of the editorial board for the Canadian Journal of Urology.
Philippa has been a practitioner of minfulness meditation for many years and received lay ordination at San Francisco Zen Center. After training as a Buddhist chaplain at the Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City, she volunteered as a multi-faith chaplain at Oa Connor Hospital. She is experienced in teaching meditation practices to people who are facing stress, pain, illness, loss and grief. Presently she co-leads a meditation group in Pacifica. Philippa has received professional training in Minfulness-based Stress Reduction from Bob Stahl, Ph.D. at El Camino Hospital.
Dr. Tharratt is an internist who specializes in pulmonology, medical toxicology, and emergency medical services. He is a professor of Medicine and Anesthesiology at the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, interim chief of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, and chief of the Section of Clinical Pharmacology and Medical Toxicology in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. In addition, he serves as medical director of both the Sacramento County Emergency Medical Services and the Sacramento city and county fire departments.
Dr. Randy Burr is in private practice at Ada West Dermatology in Meridian, Idaho. He has a special interest in photo-therapeutics, laser surgery, cutaneous oncology, and pediatric dermatology. Dr. Burr is actively involved in medical education, teaching students and residents from the University of Utah, the University of Washington, Idaho State University, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and the Family Practice Residency Program in Boise. He has been reviewing medical topics for the Knowledgebase since 1993.
Dr. Martin is a professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Martin supervised postdoctoral fellows, research fellows, and instructed residents in her genetic counseling clinic. Dr. Martin has reviewed grants for the National Institutes of Health, NATO, the Medical Research Council of Canada, Health and Welfare Canada, March of Dimes, British Columbia Health Care Research Foundation, and other Canadian and United States organizations. She has provided many continuing education courses for nurses and physicians and has been an invited speaker at many national and international medical conferences. Dr. Martin has reviewed articles for a number of American and Canadian professional journals. Currently, Dr. Martin serves on the editorial board for Human Reproduction, Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, and the Canada Research Chairs' College of Reviewers. She is an executive board member of the Prenatal Genetic Diagnosis International Society. She was awarded the Canada Research Chair in Genetics in 2002.
Dr. Crichlow is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Washington, Montana Family Practice Residency, in Billings, Montana. Among her numerous research activities, she has received a minority supplement grant from the National Cancer Institute for a study of tamoxifen, of which Dr. J. Melnikow is the principal investigator. Dr. Crichlow has received several awards for her outstanding leadership in family and community medicine and in women''s health. During her medical education, she was the student clinic director at the Center for AIDS Research and Education Services. She has served as associate medical director for Healthwise, Incorporated, since June 2002.
Dr. Kloner has been teaching at medical schools, involved in major research projects in the field of cardiology, and writing, editing, and reviewing articles for medical journals for the past 20 years. He was appointed Professor of Medicine in the Section of Cardiology at the University of Southern California in 1988. He is also Director of Research at the Heart Institute of Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and attending cardiologist at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical School. Dr. Kloner served as Director of the Cardiac Research Laboratory at Harvard Medical School from 1979 to 1984. He edited a textbook for professionals, The Guide to Cardiology, Third Edition, published in 1995 and is co-editor of the book Cardiovascular Trials Review, Editions 1 through 4.

Susan has been with Camino Medical Group since 2004. Previously she worked with the Berkeley Heart Lab and brought a wealth of experience in cardiovascular nutrition. She is aspiring to become a diabetes educator and is training to become one by helping teach diabetes and gestational diabetes classes in addition to heart smart classes. She initiated and developed the Employee Weight Management Program and has taken it out to the satellite campuses as well as the main campus. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she is committed to living the life style that she teaches.
Dr. McColley is a pediatrician certified in pediatric pulmonology. She is an attending physician and Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The Children''s Memorial Medical Center in Chicago. She serves as the Clinical Medical Advisor on the Board of Directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Greater Illinois Chapter, and is a member of the Center Committee of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dr. McColley serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several medical journals. She is also actively involved in research relating to cystic fibrosis.
Dr. Bailey is a clinical associate professor with the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia. He is currently on the active staff of Victoria General Hospital, and medical director of Residential Services for the Vancouver Island Health Authority . Dr. Bailey has been active in family practice medicine in Victoria, BC, since 1978. He served as president of the British Columbia College of Family Physicians from 2000 through 2001 and is currently president-elect of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Bailey has been a manuscript reviewer for Canadian Family Physician since 1995.
Dr. Colby is a consultant for the Infectious Diseases Service at London Health Sciences Centre. He also is the director of the University Hospital Travel Medicine and Tropical Diseases Service in London, Ontario. Dr. Colby is a well-known researcher who has been the principal or secondary investigator of several clinical trials. He was the regional coordinator for a nationally organized surveillance project. He also has been involved in many research groups, including the Vaccine and Virus Host Interactions Group (VVHIG), the Barer/Stoddart Report Task Force, and the Canadian ciprofloxacin study group. Dr. Colby is an accomplished speaker who has made numerous presentations at conferences in Canada, France, and the United States. In addition, he has had TV and radio appearances covering a variety of medical topics, including infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance. Since 1990, Dr. Colby has been a fellowship examiner for the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists. He has served on many hospital and university committees and he has received many awards, including Honourary Class President of the University of Western Ontario Medicine, classes of 1996, 2001, and 2005. Dr. Colby has served as reviewer for Clinical and Investigative Medicine, University of Western Ontario Medical Journal, and the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
Dr. Shiuey is a Harvard trained eye surgeon. He is one of the few surgeons performing LASIK who has received formal fellowship training in Refractive Surgery, the art and science of vision correction, and in the Cornea, the tissue on which all laser vision correction procedures are performed.
