Guy Russo has served as the CFO and Administrative General Partner at Canaan since 1997. He has over eighteen years of finance and administrative experience in venture capital. In his role at Canaan he has lead the development of several custom systems utilized for Limited Partner reporting and communications, investment benchmarking and financial and operational administration. Prior to joining Canaan as Controller in 1988, Guy worked with investment firms and entrepreneurial companies for over four years as a Senior Accountant in the Entrepreneurial Services Group of Ernst & Young. Guy holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He is also a C.P.A.

Brent Ahrens joined the firm in 1999 and focuses on investments in healthcare companies. He actively assists portfolio companies in evaluating new products strategies, financing approaches, business development opportunities and intellectual property enhancement. Brent's past and present company involvement includes Cerexa (FRX), Coapt Systems, CoAxia, DexCom (DXCM), Novare Surgical, Pavad Medical, Peninsula Pharmaceuticals (JNJ), Relievant Medsystems, Revivant (ZOLL) and Transoma Medical. His particular interests are in the areas of implantable sensors and devices, infectious diseases, and CNS disorders. Prior to joining Canaan, Brent worked for General Surgical Innovations and Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Johnson & Johnson) in a variety of sales, marketing, business development and technical roles. In addition, he worked for IAP Research, a developer of technologies for defense and industrial applications. Brent holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He is also a Professional Engineer with a number of patents related to medical technologies. Brent is also an alumni of the Kauffman Fellows Program. Recently, Brent was included in the 2006 Midas List, a prominent venture capital listing which ranks the best dealmakers in high-tech and life sciences.

Daniel T. Ciporin joined Canaan Partners in 2007 as a Venture Partner specializing in digital media and communications investments. Dan is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shopping.com, a publicly traded online comparison shopping service. As CEO of the company beginning in 1999, Ciporin oversaw the company's growth from zero to over $100 million in revenues in just 5 years, culminating in the company's initial public offering in October 2004. During his tenure Shopping.com became the leader and dominant player in the newly emerging sector of comparison shopping, and was the third largest ecommerce site on the web before it was acquired by eBay in August of 2005. Prior to Shopping.com, Mr. Ciporin served as senior vice president of MasterCard International, where he managed global debit services. In this position, he was responsible for the marketing and product management of all MasterCard online global debit products, including the MasterCard /Cirrus ; ATM Network and the Maestro global, online point-of-sale (POS) debit program. His efforts helped establish the company's market leadership in the global electronic debit market. Before joining MasterCard, Mr. Ciporin was a management consultant for Mars and Co. and Corporate Value Associates, and was responsible for conducting strategy studies for Fortune 500 companies. In 1980 and 1981, Mr. Ciporin served as director of Educational Programs for the Sakaeo Refugee Camp, a Cambodian refugee camp in Sakaeo, Thailand. The camp was run by the International Rescue Committee as part of a United Nations-funded program. Mr. Ciporin earned his AB degree at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs from Princeton University in 1980 and his MBA degree at the Yale University School of Management in 1986. Mr. Ciporin is on the boards of VistaPrint Ltd. (VPRT), a publicly traded internet printing company, and Primedia (PRM), one of the world's leading targeted media companies. More recently, Mr. Ciporin was chairman of the Internet Lab, a US-Israeli incubator for early-stage Internet consumer start-ups co-founded by Gemini Israel Funds and Lightspeed Venture Partners. He continues to serve as a senior advisor and consultant to a variety of high growth private companies. At Canaan, Dan sits on the board of Lending Club.

Deepak Kamra is a General Partner in Canaan's Menlo Park office. He joined Canaan in 1991 after eleven years in the telecommunications, computer and software industries. Prior to joining Canaan, he held several senior sales and marketing positions at Aspect Telecommunications, a successful Silicon Valley based startup in the computer telephony and switching industry. He was previously assistant to the CEO at ROLM Corporation, and General Manager of a division of TRW Datacomm International. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He led Canaan's investment in Acme Packet, DoubleClick, Jetstream Communications, Latitude Communications and PriorityCall Management. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Concord Communications, Crosslogix, e4e, Inc, iPrint.com, iReady, Kinecta Corporation, ON24, Inc and Interact Commerce Corporation (SalesLogix).

Since he co-founded Canaan in 1987, Eric has generated numerous positive investment outcomes from his active investor role in companies such as Argon Networks, Capstone Turbine, Copper Mountain Networks (acquired by Tut Systems), Diffusion Software, Frame Technology, International Network Services, Kalpana, ONI Systems, Spectrian and Visigenic Software. Eric is leading Canaan's portfolio of investments in the power, energy and semiconductor sectors. He became an early investor in energy-related clean technologies, starting with Transphase Systems in the early 1990s, an innovative energy storage technology firm addressing efficient energy usage within large commercial facilities. Eric spearheaded Canaan's investment in the startup phase of Capstone Turbine, the world leader in the microturbine power generation equipment marketplace. As an active Board member for 13 years, Eric helped transform Capstone Turbine from an engineering project into a publicly-held leader in the distributed power generation industry. Eric has also been a director of Enpirion, an early stage company that manufactures high-efficiency, intelligent power supply modules for electronic systems ranging from mobile consumer devices to servers and infrastructure systems. Most recently, Eric has been advising Zolo Technologies on the development of strategic relationships for deploying their optical measurement technology in established power generation markets. Prior to Canaan, Eric was a Senior Vice President of GE Venture Capital where he initiated a number of successful investments in companies such as Nellcor and Octel Communications. Prior to GE Venture Capital, Eric held a variety of sales, marketing and operations management positions within two GE power-related industrial product businesses. Eric holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and a MBA from Northwestern University. Eric recently served for five years as Silicon Valley's VC industry representative on Nasdaq's Listing and Hearing Review Council. He also is a member of Advisory Council of Cornell University's entrepreneurship initiative, Entrepreneurship@Cornell. Izhar Shay joined Canaan as a Venture Partner in December 2005 to establish its Israeli operations. In Israel, Izhar focuses on building companies in Communications, Software, Security and Internet technology. Using his 20+ years of operational experience, mostly as an entrepreneur, Shay also seeks innovative technologies in healthcare. Most recently he was Chairman and CEO of V-Secure Technologies, which he led to an acquisition by Radware Ltd. (NASDAQ: RDWR) in November 2005. Prior to V-Secure Izhar was CEO of Business Layers. Izhar co-founded and managed Business Layers through its various stages of growth, until it was acquired by Netegrity (NASDAQ: NETE) in December 2003. Izhar had previously been Vice President of Business Development with the BRM Group, an international investment firm. Izhar holds a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from the Technion Institute, in Haifa, Israel. He serves on the Board of Directors of LiveU.

John Balen joined Canaan Partners in 1995, and serves as General Partner in the firm's Menlo Park, California office. He is primarily focused on investments in information technology companies. Prior to joining Canaan, John served as a Managing Director of Horsley Bridge Partners, a multi-billion dollar private equity investment firm headquartered in San Francisco, California. During his nine-year tenure at Horsley Bridge Partners, he was responsible for a wide spectrum of investments in high technology companies, venture capital partnerships and buyout partnerships. Earlier in his career, he was a sales applications engineer at Codenoll Technology Corporation, a fiber communications start-up, and an engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation. John received a BS in electrical engineering and an MBA from Cornell University. He currently serves on the boards of Blurb, Casabi, Command Audio, Dexterra, Echopass, Everdream, ID Analytics, Silicon Optix, and Soasta. He previously served on the boards of Commerce One, Intraware and Rightpoint, which was acquired by Epiphany.

Mark Mangiola joined Canaan in 2001 after over 20 years in operational leadership roles in the cable and broadband industry. Mark invests in communications companies that are transforming the delivery of digital media, as well as new consumer content companies that meld entertainment with interactivity. Mark has a visionary outlook about how consumers will watch and interact with content in the future, having participated first hand in the early emergence of both cable TV and the Internet. He also supports key clean tech opportunities. Mark actively participated in Canaana s investment in Ellacoya, a rapidly-growing broadband service optimization company, and Zolo Technologies, a clean tech pioneer that is dramatically reducing emissions from power plants.
Prior to joining Canaan, Seth served as CEO and Chairman at CytoTherapeutics (CTII). Before that, he helped start and served as head of R&D for Ortho Biotech, a division of Johnson & Johnson. In that role, he led the development efforts for a portfolio of projects which are still responsible for significant Johnson and Johnson revenues. He began his industrial career at Schering-Plough where he ran clinical trials for the alpha interferon project, and later transferred to Biogen to run that company's pharmaceutical development efforts. His academic career began when he served on the medical and public health faculty at Chapel Hill. Seth is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Chapel Hill where he teaches and advises the faculty on biotechnology issues. Recently, Seth was included in the 2006 Midas List, a prominent venture capital listing which ranks the best dealmakers in high-tech and life sciences.

Stephen Bloch, MD joined Canaan Partners in June, 2002, initially as a Ewing Marion Kauffman Fellow. His investment targets include biopharmaceuticals (therapeutics and diagnostics), medical devices and healthcare infrastructure. Steve currently serves on the Board of Directors for Advanced Biohealing, Amicus Therapeutics, Marinus Pharmaceuticals, OmniSonics Medical Technologies and Viacor. Prior to joining Canaan, Steve was a medical entrepreneur and practicing physician. He founded and was CEO of Radiology Management Sciences (RMS), a risk manager of diagnostic imaging services for health plans and provider networks. As medical director, he helped start Omnisonics Medical Technologies which is developing breakthrough products using acoustic energy for the treatment of vascular occlusive diseases. Additionally, he co-founded TeleRad, a teleradiology services company, and was an initial investor in OpenAir.com, an enterprise software company for professional services firms. Dr. Bloch started his business career as a strategic consultant with Arthur D. Little focused on pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Dr. Bloch received his medical training as a radiologist at The Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and in internal medicine at The Lenox Hill Hospital/Cornell Medical School. He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He also received a MA in history of science and public policy from Harvard University and an AB degree in history from Dartmouth College.
