Derek has more than 28 years of financial, administrative, and operational experience in publishing and professional services. His primary responsibilities include managing finance, administration, IT and legal teams; helping define the strategic direction; procurement of capital; and monitoring financial performance. Prior to joining Castel, Derek was Chief Financial Officer of First Knowledge Partners, Inc., an international management consulting firm. He was Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of Organizational Dynamics, Inc.; Executive Vice President and CFO of Addison Wesley Longman, Inc.; Executive Vice President of Penguin Books USA Inc.; and CFO of Warren, Gorham & Lamont, Inc. Among Derek's responsibilities at these organizations, was management of outbound and inbound contact centers supporting thousands of customers. A former member of the Board of Examiners of the AICPA, Derek is a CPA and a Chartered Accountant. Derek has a B.Com from the University of Toronto.

Paul has more than 20 years experience in the design, development and deployment of software products. He is responsible for overseeing the company's research and development activities and development initiatives, including managing the engineering teams, providing technical strategy guidance, and developing enterprise level products and solutions. Previously, Paul served in a variety of development management roles, where he oversaw and contributed to the development of Castel telecommunications hardware and software products. Prior to joining the Castel team, he held executive management positions with IPL Systems Inc. and Nova Biomedical. Throughout his career Paul has lead teams in creating technically advanced, architecturally sound, feature-rich software products. Paul attended Southern New Hampshire University and has a degree in Computer Science.

Joshua Phillips brings to BioTrove's Board considerable experience and multifaceted perspectives in building businesses. In addition to venture capital, Mr. Phillip's career has included strategy consulting, management, and engineering at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Russelectric, Inc., and the Lucas Group. Josh's investment interests at Catalyst span both the life sciences and technology markets, with particular interest in drug discovery tools and enterprise software. Mr. Phillip's previous investments at Catalyst include Novazyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Castel, Inc. Mr. Phillips earned his BE in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
