As chairman and chief executive officer of Catalina Marketing, the global leader in behavior-based marketing solutions, Dick Buell is responsible for the overall growth of the 25-year-old company. Leading with 30-years of marketing and management experience primarily in the consumer packaged goods industry, Buell understood the immense opportunities that existed within the organization's industries of focus and beyond when he joined in 2004. With a clear strategic vision piloting the decision-making process, Buell reorganized the company and positioned it for continued growth and expansion. A critical advancement includes the transformation of the company's in-store, black-and-white communications to a full-color-network with enhanced features and graphics. This significant progression further supported the successful introduction of innovative products and services and opportunities for entry into new channels and industries. Prior to Catalina Marketing, Buell was chief operating officer at Foodbrands America, a $3.6 billion processed food business. He also served as chief executive officer of WS Brands, a holding company within Willis Stein & Partners private equity partnership. Additionally, Buell spent nine years with Griffith Laboratories, Inc., serving as chief executive officer directing worldwide operating units. As vice president of marketing for Kraft, Inc., he was responsible for all related initiatives in the Grocery Products division. Buell credits his initial strategic management training to his time at McKinsey & Company, where he managed domestic and global strategy organizational and operational studies. Buell earned his Bachelor of Science in engineering from Purdue University, and his MBA from the University of Chicago.
