Stephen A. Sherwin, M.D., chairman of the board and chief executive officer, joined Cell Genesys in March 1990 as chief executive officer. In March 1994, he was elected chairman of the board. From 1983 to 1990, Dr. Sherwin held various positions at Genentech, Inc., including vice president of Clinical Research. Prior to 1983, Dr. Sherwin was on the staff of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Sherwin co-founded Abgenix (acquired by Amgen in 2006), a former subsidiary of Cell Genesys, and Ceregene, Inc., a former subsidiary of Cell Genesys for which he serves as chairman of the board. Zack has been guiding for six years now, but has been rafting since he was a kid. Originally from Woodland, CA, Zack now lives in San Francisco.
