Gilberto Perez joined CEMEX in 1988, and worked in positions dealing with international sales, logistics, strategic planning and general management. In 1998, he was appointed President of CEMEX U.S. Operations. In this capacity he led the integration of Southdown Corporation, the largest cement producer in the United States at the time, which was purchased by CEMEX in 2000. This effectively quadrupled the size of CEMEX in the United States. Rafael Rangel is the rector of the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey-ITESM, one of Mexico's and Latin America's leading universities. Under Rangel's leadership, the institute has thrived, now encompassing 30 campuses throughout Mexico and over 1000 "virtual" campuses in most of the rest of Latin America. LASPAU and ITESM have a long-term relationship that has recently lengthened through a partnership to expand exchanges through the hosting of a Tec representative at LASPAU and through a joint venture in graduate testing. Ernesto Marcos is the founding partner of the investment banking firm Marcos y Asociados. He has devoted most of his professional career to the development of financing alternatives that better suit the differentiated needs of the Mexican industrial and infrastructure sectors.
