James C. Foster is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charles River Laboratories, a provider of essential products and services that help accelerate the drug development process. Since beginning his career at Charles River in 1976, Mr. Foster has held a variety of positions including: Vice President of Administration and General Counsel, President of Charles River Biotechnical Services, and Executive Vice President, Charles River. Mr. Foster was named President in 1991, Chief Executive Officer in 1992, and Chairman in 2000. Under Mr. Foster’s leadership, through both acquisition and organic growth, Charles River expanded its position as a leading provider of research models and services. Today, the Company offers a unique portfolio of products and services required to take a novel drug therapy from discovery through proof of concept. Mr. Foster’s focus on execution and exceeding client expectations was the driving force behind the Company’s largest expansion in history, developing approximately one million square feet of new real estate from 2007-2009. This strategic initiative enhanced the Company’s global footprint by providing state-of-the-art facilities conveniently located to clients world wide, including a new site in China. Mr. Foster was named one of the New England region’s 2007 Entrepreneurs of the Year by Ernst & Young LLP. He holds the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at Tufts University, and is a member of the Visiting Committee, and the North American Executive Board of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. Mr. Foster serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park and of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. David P. Johst joined us in 1991 as Corporate Counsel and was named Vice President, Human Resources in 1995. He became Vice President, Human Resources Administration in 1996, and a Senior Vice President in 1999. In 2005, he was named Corporate Executive Vice President. He is currently responsible for overseeing our Human Resources and global Regulatory & Quality Assurance groups, as well as several other corporate staff departments. Mr. Johst also serves as our General Counsel and oversees our Corporate Legal Department. Prior to joining us, Mr. Johst was an attorney at Boston's Hale and Dorr. Christophe Berthoux, D.V.M., joined Charles River Laboratories in 1991 as Sales and Marketing Director in France and became General Manager of French Operations in 1997. In 1999, Dr. Berthoux became Vice President, Charles River Europe and in 2002 was promoted to Corporate Vice President. At that time, he assumed responsibility for Transgenic Services and Laboratory and Research Services worldwide. Having left in 2004, Dr. Berthoux rejoined Charles River as General Manager, Global Clinical Services, in February 2005. Thomas F. Ackerman joined us in 1988 with over eleven years of combined public accounting and international finance experience. Nancy Gillett, D.V.M., Ph.D., joined us in September 1999 with the acquisition of Sierra Biomedical. Dr. Gillett has 18 years of experience as an ACVP board-certified pathologist and scientific manager. In 1999, Dr. Gillett became Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Sierra Biomedical division with responsibilities for Sierra’s ongoing business operations. In 2002, Dr. Gillett became interim Corporate Vice President of Discovery & Development Services and President & General Manager of Sierra Biomedical, overseeing operations for Charles River’s Argus Laboratories, PAI, Redfield Laboratories, Springborn Laboratories and Worcester Laboratories divisions. Real H. Renaud joined us in 1964 and has 40 years of small animal production and related management experience. In 1986, Mr. Renaud became our Vice President of Production, with responsibility for overseeing our North American small animal operations, and was named Vice President, Worldwide Production in 1990. Mr. Renaud became Vice President and General Manager, European and North American Animal Operations in 1996, following a two-year European assignment during which he provided direct oversight to our European operations. In 1999 he became a Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President in 2002. Brian Bathgate, Ph.D., joined Charles River Laboratories in October 2004 upon the completion of the merger with Inveresk Research Group, where he served as Group Executive Vice President and President of Preclinical Europe Operations. With over 10 years of financial, corporate and business development experience in the life science industry, Dr. Walker brings a strong technical and financial background to lead the Company’s global corporate development function. Prior to joining Charles River, Dr. Walker was Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions for QIAGEN Sciences where she oversaw the corporate development of QIAGEN’s North American life sciences tools and molecular diagnostics businesses. Foster Jordan joined Charles River via the acquisition of Endosafe Inc. in 1994. Mr. Jordan joined Endosafe as R&D Director in 1991 and was responsible for the development of our FDA-licensed in vitro endotoxin detection test kits. Dr. John Ho joined us in January 2006 as Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy. Jorg Geller, DVM, Ph.D., joined Charles River Germany in 1986, overseeing its RMS production operations. In 1994, his role was expanded to include all European RMS operations. Nancy T. Chang is Managing Director at OrbiMed Advisors, a preeminent global health-sciences asset management firm. Previously, Dr. Chang was the Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Tanox, Inc., which was created to address significant unmet medical needs in the areas of asthma, allergy, inflammation and diseases affecting the human immune system. In 2000 she took Tanox public, raising $244 million, which was the second-largest initial public offering ever for a biopharmaceutical company at that time.
