James C. Foster is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charles River Laboratories, a provider of essential products and services that help accelerate the drug development process. Since beginning his career at Charles River in 1976, Mr. Foster has held a variety of positions including: Vice President of Administration and General Counsel, President of Charles River Biotechnical Services, and Executive Vice President, Charles River. Mr. Foster was named President in 1991, Chief Executive Officer in 1992, and Chairman in 2000. Under Mr. Foster’s leadership, through both acquisition and organic growth, Charles River expanded its position as a leading provider of research models and services. Today, the Company offers a unique portfolio of products and services required to take a novel drug therapy from discovery through proof of concept. Mr. Foster’s focus on execution and exceeding client expectations was the driving force behind the Company’s largest expansion in history, developing approximately one million square feet of new real estate from 2007-2009. This strategic initiative enhanced the Company’s global footprint by providing state-of-the-art facilities conveniently located to clients world wide, including a new site in China. Mr. Foster was named one of the New England region’s 2007 Entrepreneurs of the Year by Ernst & Young LLP. He holds the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at Tufts University, and is a member of the Visiting Committee, and the North American Executive Board of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. David P. Johst joined us in 1991 as Corporate Counsel and was named Vice President, Human Resources in 1995. Christophe Berthoux, D.V.M., joined Charles River Laboratories in 1991 as Sales and Marketing Director in France and became General Manager of French Operations in 1997. Nancy Gillett, D.V.M., Ph.D., joined us in September 1999 with the acquisition of Sierra Biomedical. Real H. Renaud joined us in 1964 and has 40 years of small animal production and related management experience. In 1986, Mr. Renaud became our Vice President of Production, with responsibility for overseeing our North American small animal operations, and was named Vice President, Worldwide Production in 1990. Mr. Renaud became Vice President and General Manager, European and North American Animal Operations in 1996, following a two-year European assignment during which he provided direct oversight to our European operations. Nancy T. Chang is Managing Director at OrbiMed Advisors, a preeminent global health-sciences asset management firm. Previously, Dr. Chang was the Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Tanox, Inc., which was created to address significant unmet medical needs in the areas of asthma, allergy, inflammation and diseases affecting the human immune system. In 2000 she took Tanox public, raising $244 million, which was the second-largest initial public offering ever for a biopharmaceutical company at that time. Dr. Chang has been an active member in the biopharmaceutical industry for more than 25 years. She has published more than 35 papers on topics ranging from monoclonal antibodies to HIV and holds seven patents. She currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Houston, BioHouston, the Center of Houston’s Future and the Greater Houston Partnership. Dr. Chang has been a director since 2007.

William H. Waltrip has served as a director of Theravance since April 2000. Mr. Waltrip served from 1993 until 2003 as Chairman of the board of directors of Technology Solutions Company, a systems integration company, and from 1993 until 1995 he was Chief Executive Officer of that company. From 1995 to 1998 he also served as Chairman of Bausch & Lomb Inc., and during 1996 and 2002 was the company's Chief Executive Officer.
