James C. Foster is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charles River Laboratories, a provider of essential products and services that help accelerate the drug development process. Since beginning his career at Charles River in 1976, Mr. Foster has held a variety of positions including: Vice President of Administration and General Counsel, President of Charles River Biotechnical Services, and Executive Vice President, Charles River. Mr. Foster was named President in 1991, Chief Executive Officer in 1992, and Chairman in 2000. Under Mr. Foster’s leadership, through both acquisition and organic growth, Charles River expanded its position as a leading provider of research models and services. Today, the Company offers a unique portfolio of products and services required to take a novel drug therapy from discovery through proof of concept. Mr. Foster’s focus on execution and exceeding client expectations was the driving force behind the Company’s largest expansion in history, developing approximately one million square feet of new real estate from 2007-2009. This strategic initiative enhanced the Company’s global footprint by providing state-of-the-art facilities conveniently located to clients world wide, including a new site in China. Mr. Foster was named one of the New England region’s 2007 Entrepreneurs of the Year by Ernst & Young LLP. He holds the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at Tufts University, and is a member of the Visiting Committee, and the North American Executive Board of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. Mr. Foster serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park and of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. He is also a member of the Visiting Committee for Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He has been a guest lecturer at MIT, Brandeis University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, and The Olin School of Business at Washington University. Mr. Foster holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Lake Forest College, an M.S. degree from MIT and a J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of both the Massachusetts and American Bar Associations.

David P. Johst joined us in 1991 as Corporate Counsel and was named Vice President, Human Resources in 1995. He became Vice President, Human Resources Administration in 1996, and a Senior Vice President in 1999. In 2005, he was named Corporate Executive Vice President. He is currently responsible for overseeing our Human Resources and global Regulatory & Quality Assurance groups, as well as several other corporate staff departments. Mr. Johst also serves as our General Counsel and oversees our Corporate Legal Department. Prior to joining us, Mr. Johst was an attorney at Boston's Hale and Dorr. Mr. Johst is a graduate of Dartmouth College, holds an M.B.A. from Northeastern University and received his J.D. from Harvard University Law School.

Christophe Berthoux, D.V.M., joined Charles River Laboratories in 1991 as Sales and Marketing Director in France and became General Manager of French Operations in 1997. In 1999, Dr. Berthoux became Vice President, Charles River Europe and in 2002 was promoted to Corporate Vice President. At that time, he assumed responsibility for Transgenic Services and Laboratory and Research Services worldwide. Having left in 2004, Dr. Berthoux rejoined Charles River as General Manager, Global Clinical Services, in February 2005. Following the sale of the Company’s Phase II-IV Clinical Services business in August 2006, Dr. Berthoux was named Corporate Senior Vice President, U.S. Research Models and Services and In Vitro Detection Systems. In September 2008, Dr. Berthoux was promoted to Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing and Chief Commercial Officer. Dr. Berthoux received a D.V.M. degree from Lyon Veterinary School and an Executive MBS from Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management.

Nicholas Ventresca joined us in April 2006 as Corporate Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. Mr. Ventresca brings with him an extensive international background which includes a strong combination of CIO and functional IT responsibility. Prior to joining Charles River, Mr. Ventresca was Vice President, Business Technology for Pfizer, Inc. He also served as CIO of Warner-Lambert’s Schick & Wilkinson Sword group and CTO of Pepsi-Cola International. Mr. Ventresca holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Fordham University and studied medicine at the University of Rome. He is also a member of the Drug Information Association.

Stephanie Wells joined us in March 2007 as Corporate Senior Vice President, Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer. With over twenty-five years of healthcare business experience, Ms. Wells brings with her an international background which includes extensive sales, marketing and general business management experience. Prior to joining Charles River, Ms. Wells was Vice President Worldwide Marketing, Clinical Labs for Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company. She also served as Vice President Marketing – Laboratory Testing Business Unit at Bayer Diagnostics. Ms. Wells holds the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences and Clinical Chemistry from Paddington College, London, England.

Thomas F. Ackerman joined us in 1988 with over eleven years of combined public accounting and international finance experience. He was named Controller, North America in 1992, became our Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1996, and he was named a Senior Vice President. In 2005 he was named Corporate Executive Vice President. He is currently responsible for overseeing our Accounting and Finance Department, as well as our Information Technology Group. Prior to joining us, Mr. Ackerman was an accountant at Arthur Anderson & Co. Mr. Ackerman also serves on the Board of Directors of CryoLife, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange company (CRY) and the University of Massachusetts Foundation. Mr. Ackerman received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts and is a certified public accountant.

Nancy Gillett, D.V.M., Ph.D., joined us in September 1999 with the acquisition of Sierra Biomedical. Dr. Gillett has 18 years of experience as an ACVP board-certified pathologist and scientific manager. In 1999, Dr. Gillett became Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Sierra Biomedical division with responsibilities for Sierra’s ongoing business operations. In 2002, Dr. Gillett became interim Corporate Vice President of Discovery & Development Services and President & General Manager of Sierra Biomedical, overseeing operations for Charles River’s Argus Laboratories, PAI, Redfield Laboratories, Springborn Laboratories and Worcester Laboratories divisions. In 2003, Dr. Gillett was promoted to Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Drug Discovery and Development. In October 2004, Dr. Gillett was named Corporate Vice President and President, U.S. Preclinical Services upon completion of the merger with Inveresk Research Group. In October 2006, Dr. Gillett was promoted to the position of Corporate Executive Vice President and President, Global Preclinical Services. Dr. Gillett received her D.V.M. from Washington State University and her Ph.D. from University of California, Davis.

Real H. Renaud joined us in 1964 and has 40 years of small animal production and related management experience. In 1986, Mr. Renaud became our Vice President of Production, with responsibility for overseeing our North American small animal operations, and was named Vice President, Worldwide Production in 1990. Mr. Renaud became Vice President and General Manager, European and North American Animal Operations in 1996, following a two-year European assignment during which he provided direct oversight to our European operations. In 1999 he became a Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President in 2002. Mr. Renaud attended Columbia University’s executive education program, and has also studied at the Lyon Veterinary School and the Montreal Business School.

Brian Bathgate, Ph.D., joined Charles River Laboratories in October 2004 upon the completion of the merger with Inveresk Research Group, where he served as Group Executive Vice President and President of Preclinical Europe Operations. In December 2004, Dr. Bathgate was named Corporate Vice President & President, European Preclinical Services. In 2006, Dr. Bathgate assumed responsibility for global Biopharmaceutical Services and in October 2007, he was named Corporate Senior Vice President. Dr. Bathgate received his BSc degree from Glasgow University and his Ph.D., from Nottingham University.

Christopher Perkin joined Charles River Laboratories in October 2004 upon the completion of the merger with Inveresk Research Group where he served as Chief Operating Officer at CTBR Bio-Research, Inc., a subsidiary of Inveresk. In December 2004, Mr. Perkin was named President, Canadian Preclinical Services, and in October 2005, Corporate Vice President. In June 2007, under Mr. Perkin’s direction, Charles River established preclinical operations in China. Mr. Perkin received his BSc degree from Bradford University.

Cheri Walker, Ph.D., joined us in April 2007 as Corporate Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. With over 10 years of financial, corporate and business development experience in the life science industry, Dr. Walker brings a strong technical and financial background to lead the Company’s global corporate development function. Prior to joining Charles River, Dr. Walker was Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions for QIAGEN Sciences where she oversaw the corporate development of QIAGEN’s North American life sciences tools and molecular diagnostics businesses. Previously, Dr. Walker held senior corporate development and operational positions at Invitrogen where she successfully executed acquisition and licensing transactions. Dr. Walker holds a doctorate in Human and Molecular Genetics from Baylor College of Medicine and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Swarthmore College.

Foster Jordan joined Charles River via the acquisition of Endosafe Inc. in 1994. Mr. Jordan joined Endosafe as R&D Director in 1991 and was responsible for the development of our FDA-licensed in vitro endotoxin detection test kits. Mr. Jordan became Director of Technical Operations in 1994 and in 1997, became General Manager of Charles River Endosafe and assumed responsibility for global In Vitro operations. He became Executive Director in 2001, Corporate Vice President in 2006, and Corporate Senior Vice President of Endotoxin & Microbial Detection Products in 2008. Mr. Jordan received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Wofford College, attended graduate school at Clemson University, and completed Duke University’s Executive Education Program.

Dr. John Ho joined us in January 2006 as Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy. Dr. Ho has over 16 years experience serving pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and provider organizations in a variety of capacities including corporate and M&A strategy formulation, product commercialization, investment decision making, process reengineering and organizational redesign. Prior to joining Charles River, Dr. Ho served as a partner at Accenture in their Health and Life Sciences Practice where he led their Preclinical Development Practice and the Medical Device Practice areas. He was also a leader in the Discovery Research and Clinical Operations Practices. Prior to that, Dr. Ho served with a number of other consultancies in a senior role including, Pittiglio Rabin Todd & McGrath, Andersen Consulting, LLP and McKinsey & Company. Dr. Ho holds as BS in Biology and Molecular Genetics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine and an MBA from Dartmouth College.

Jorg Geller, DVM, Ph.D., joined Charles River Germany in 1986, overseeing its RMS production operations. In 1994, his role was expanded to include all European RMS operations. In 1997 and again in 2005, Dr. Geller was given responsibility for additional research model businesses. In October 2007, Dr. Geller was named Corporate Senior Vice President, Japanese Operations and Select Research Model Businesses. Dr. Geller received his DVM from Justus Liebig University in Giessen and his Ph.D., from University of Hannover.

Richard Reese is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Iron Mountain, Inc., the global leader for information protection and storage services. Since Mr. Reese joined Iron Mountain as president in 1981, the company has become the leader in records management and information protection, with annual sales in excess of $2.1 billion. Previously, Mr. Reese provided consulting services to small-and medium-sized emerging companies and lectured on entrepreneurship at Harvard Business School. He is also the former president and director of PRISM International, a trade association of records management companies. Mr. Reese has been a director since 2007.

Douglas E. Rogers is a Partner and founding member of Blackstone Healthcare Partners LLC, the healthcare division of The Blackstone Group, a private investment bank. Mr. Rogers has extensive experience in health care private equity investing and investment banking, including as Managing Director of Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette’s Merchant banking Group and Managing Director of Credit Suisse First Boston’s Private Equity Group. Previously, Mr. Rogers was a Vice President at Kidder Peabody & Co., Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers and head of US Investment Banking at Baring Brothers. Mr. Rogers serves as a director of Computerized Medical Systems, Inc. and previously served on our Board from 1999 until 2001. Mr. Rogers has been a Director since 2002.

Nancy T. Chang is Managing Director at OrbiMed Advisors, a preeminent global health-sciences asset management firm. Previously, Dr. Chang was the Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Tanox, Inc., which was created to address significant unmet medical needs in the areas of asthma, allergy, inflammation and diseases affecting the human immune system. In 2000 she took Tanox public, raising $244 million, which was the second-largest initial public offering ever for a biopharmaceutical company at that time. Dr. Chang has been an active member in the biopharmaceutical industry for more than 25 years. She has published more than 35 papers on topics ranging from monoclonal antibodies to HIV and holds seven patents. She currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Houston, BioHouston, the Center of Houston’s Future and the Greater Houston Partnership. Dr. Chang has been a director since 2007.

William H. Waltrip has served as a director of Theravance since April 2000. Mr. Waltrip served from 1993 until 2003 as Chairman of the board of directors of Technology Solutions Company, a systems integration company, and from 1993 until 1995 he was Chief Executive Officer of that company. From 1995 to 1998 he also served as Chairman of Bausch & Lomb Inc., and during 1996 and 2002 was the company's Chief Executive Officer. From 1991 to 1993 he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Biggers Brothers, Inc., a food service distribution company, and was a consultant to private industry from 1988 to 1991. From 1985 to 1988 he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of IU International Corporation, a transportation, environmental and distribution company. Earlier, he had been President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Purolator Courier Corporation. He is a member of the board of directors of Bausch & Lomb Inc., Charles River Laboratories Corporation and Thomas & Betts Corporation.
