Gil Shwed is Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., the worldwide leader in securing the Internet. In 1993, Shwed invented and patented Stateful Inspection, now a de facto standard technology. Together with Check Point's two co-founders, he wrote the first version of FireWall-1, the company's flagship software solution that became the world's first commercially available firewall product in 1994. In the following years, he led Check Point to be the first to offer an integrated firewall and VPN solution, and the Company is now the leader in both the firewall and VPN markets. With these breakthrough technologies as the catalyst, Shwed gave life to a new market segment and quickly propelled Check Point to the top of what is now a multi-billion dollar Internet security industry. In 2003 Check Point redefined the Internet security landscape under Shwed's leadership with the unveiling of Application Intelligence technology, a set of advanced capabilities that detect and prevent application-level attacks. Additionally, the company has operations around the world, and its intelligent Perimeter, Internal and Web security solutions secure hundreds of thousands of customers, including 100 percent of the Fortune 100. Shwed has received numerous prestigious accolades for his individual achievements and industry contributions, including an honorary Doctor of Science from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology (June 2004), the World Economic Forum's Global Leader for Tomorrow for his commitment to public affairs and leadership in areas beyond immediate professional interests (January 2003), and the Academy of Achievement's Golden Plate Award for his innovative contribution to business and technology, specifically in the area of Internet security and networking (June 2002).
