Arthur Kavanaugh is Professor of Medicine at The University of California at San Diego, School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Innovative Therapy in UCSD's Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Department. Dr. Kavanaugh graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri in 1984 and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy & Immunology. Dr. Kananugh was awarded the ACR's Research and Education Clinician Scholar Educator Award in 2001, and has been a longstanding member of both the American College of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI). Dr. Kavanaugh has served on an extensive list of committees and currently sits on the ACR's Abstract Review Committeee, Committee on Communications and Marketing and the Editorial Board for Arthritis Care and Research.. Dr. Kavanaugh has contributed over 195 original articles to the scientific literature and is a frequently invited international lecturer. Dr. Kavanaugh actively participates in the clinical training of rheumatology fellows and is involved in multiple therapeutic trials.

Prior to his tenure at the FDA, Dr. Simon was Director of Rheumatology Clinical Research and an Associate Chief of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston , MA . He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School . Roger G. Stoll, Ph.D. Executive Chairman, Dr. Stoll has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, and diagnostic industries. Most recently, he was the Executive Vice President of Fresenius Medical Care – N. America, in charge of both the dialysis products and laboratory services. Dr. Stoll oversaw the company’s manufacturing, sales, service, research and development, and business development functions, and was responsible for combined sales of approximately $900 million as well as more than 3,000 employees. From 1991 to 1998, Dr. Stoll was CEO of Ohmeda, Inc., a worldwide leader in anesthesia and critical care products with sales of approximately $1 billion and more than 5,000 employees. From 1986 to 1991, Dr. Stoll held several positions within Bayer, AG. Initially at Bayer, he had responsibilities that included both hospital and general pharmaceuiticsls before becoming President of the Consumer Health Care Group of Miles. He then became the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the worldwide Diagnostics Business Group of Bayer, during which time the business expanded from $400 million to approximately $1 billion in sales. Before 1986, Dr. Stoll was involved in the development of critical care pharmaceuticasl andheld positions of increasing responsibility including President of the American Critical Care Division of American Hospital Supply Corporation (now Baxter International). He began his career in clinical research at The Upjohn Company. In addition to the Cortex board, Dr. Stoll currently serves as a member of the boards of directors of Chelsea Therapeutics, Inc and is a member of the advisory board of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut. Kevan Clemens, Ph.D. , age 63, Dr. Clemens has served as a director since May 2006. In June 2004, Dr. Clemens retired after 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In his last position as Executive Vice President, Business Director of Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., a pharmaceutical company, he ran the Global Oncology business, including its strategic and business plans and the development and marketing of its products. Joel M. Kremer, M.D. is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine in 1974 where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society. He completed both a residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Rheumatology at The Albany Medical Center Hospital and The Albany Medical College. Between 1979 and 2000, Dr. Kremer served on the fulltime faculty of The Albany Medical College. He was appointed as a full professor of medicine in 1990 and became the Head of the Division of Rheumatology in 1992. In 2000 he became The Director of Research at The Center for Rheumatology, in Albany, New York. In 2005 he became the first "Pfaff Family Professor and Chair in Medicine" of The Albany Medical College. Dr. Kremer has contributed over 110 original articles to the scientific literature. In addition, he has authored 14 book chapters and edited 3 texts on the rheumatic diseases. He has been an invited lecturer at numerous academic institutions throughout this country and internationally. In 1997 he was awarded the Virginia Engalitcheff award of the Arthritis Foundation at a ceremony in Denver, Colorado for his work on methotrexate in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The award is given to an individual who has "improved the quality of life of patients with arthritis over the past ten years". He is the President and founder of CORRONA, a national organization for furthering research in patients with rheumatic diseases.
