David Pepper is senior vice president of franchise development and president of upscale and extended stay brands for worldwide lodging franchisor Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH). In this position, he is responsible for the company’s franchise sales efforts and for the strategic oversight of Choice’s newest brands — Cambria Suites and its extended stay brands, MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel. Mr. Pepper oversees all aspects of these brands’ operations including marketing, design and construction, franchise development, franchise services and quality assurance.
Mr. Pepper joined Choice Hotels in 2002 as vice president of franchise sales and development for the company’s new construction brands.
In 2004, he was promoted to senior vice president of franchise development.
In January 2005, Mr. Pepper served as an integral part of the team that launched the Cambria Suites brand in direct response to strong market demand for a lower-upscale lodging product, as well as Choice’s capacity to build brand loyalty in a highly competitive consumer marketplace. That year, he also added the responsibility of managing Choice’s entire franchise operations team.
In September 2005, Mr. Pepper led Choice's acquisition of the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel brand, making Choice the leading franchisor in the economy extended-stay segment and solidifying its franchising leadership position.
One year later, Mr. Pepper took on the leadership position for the Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel brands.
During his tenure at Choice, franchise sales have consistently achieved record levels and have more than doubled in the past five years — from 300 domestic franchise deals in 2002, to 470 in 2003, 552 in 2004, 639 in 2005, 720 in 2006 and 770 in 2007.
A graduate of Tufts University, Mr. Pepper has more than 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Choice, he spent six years with US Franchise Systems as vice president of franchise sales for Hawthorn Suites and Microtel Inns. He also spent five years with Holiday Inn Worldwide as a director of franchise sales.

Bruce Haase is executive vice president, global brand operations for Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH), one of the world’s largest hotel franchisors. In this position, he leads the operational strategies for the vast majority of the company’s worldwide portfolio, which includes nearly 5,500 Choice properties operating under the Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Clarion Collection, Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn brand flags.
A proven leader, Mr. Haase has a broad range of experience and a notable track record of success in finance and operations on both a domestic and global scale. In addition to leading a variety of acquisitions, organizational and capital restructurings, Mr. Haase has authored significant operational turnarounds—exhibiting a strong vision and strategic orientation, the ability to attract, retain and develop a high-caliber management team, and a keen understanding of global competitive issues.
Mr. Haase joined Choice in March 2000 as vice president, finance and treasurer. In this position, he led the company’s capital raising efforts and played a key role in helping the company achieve its strategic objectives. In October 2000, he was promoted to senior vice president, international. Within six months of taking the reigns of the international operations, Mr. Haase restructured this historically money-losing division, creating a sustainable global platform for long-term, profitable growth. Under his leadership, Choice has successfully leveraged the value proposition of its brands with franchisees and master partners and significantly enhanced both the profitability and the presence of its brands in the world’s major travel markets. As a result, the number of Choice-branded international properties has nearly doubled, with revenues increasing from $3.5 million to $25 million and profits increasing from $0.3 million to $13 million since 2001.
In 2007, Mr. Haase was named senior vice president, brand operations and international, with his responsibilities expanding to include oversight for the company’s core legacy brands. Upon being named to this position, he immediately put in place a strategy and plan of action to drive franchisee ROI and support system growth. His efforts, which involved a complete restructuring of the company’s approach to brand operations and franchise services, have resulted in more clearly defined brand strategies and accountability within the organization, better processes and systems to service franchisees, strategic alignment with the company’s development efforts, and a strengthened and reinvigorated management team.
Prior to joining Choice, Mr. Haase held key positions for a variety of publicly-held companies, including Marriott International and Caterair International, as well as national homebuilder The Ryland Group, Inc., and leading global investment banking and securities firm Goldman Sachs. Immediately prior to joining Choice, he served as vice president, finance, and treasurer for Ryland (from 1995 to 2000). In this role, he led the company's treasury and capital raising efforts in addition to Ryland's investor relations and acquisition functions.
Prior to his tenure at Ryland, Mr. Haase spent five years with Caterair International Corporation in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was vice president and assistant treasurer. At Caterair, Mr. Haase managed all treasury functions and co-led the company's extensive capital restructuring efforts. Prior to Caterair, Mr. Haase was manager, financial planning and acquisitions with Marriott, and a financial planning analyst with Goldman Sachs.
A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in electrical engineering, Mr. Haase also holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in corporate finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
