As president of Christian Hospital, Ron McMullen leads a 493-bed acute-care medical center in north St. Louis County. Christian Hospital is noted for its excellence in heart services, cardiothoracic surgery, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, cancer treatment, psychiatric services and substance abuse programs, radiology, urology, pulmonology and radiation oncology. In addition, McMullen oversees Northwest HealthCare, a facility six miles west of Christian Hospital that offers the community 24-hour emergency care, a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services (such as MRI, CT, general radiology, ultrasound and women's services), and a breathing center and sleep lab. Northwest HealthCare offers care in a convenient setting to complement hospital services. McMullen served as president of Alton Memorial Hospital from 1986 to 2007. He originally joined Alton Memorial as an assistant administrator in 1983. McMullen previously served as vice president of St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, and as an administrative resident at Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. McMullen completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, then earned a master's degree in hospital and health care administration from St. Louis University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves on the board of the Illinois Hospital Association and is a past-president of IHA's Region 4. He also holds board memberships with the local Headstart program and the United Way chapters in Alton, Ill. and St. Louis.
