Born and raised in the Philippines, Wan Ling and her family immigrated to the U.S. for better educational opportunities. She, as did her four siblings, took advantage of those opportunities and went on to earn advanced degrees.
Wan Ling is a CPA and has an MBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota. She started her career at Kraft where she spent 10 years in diverse financial roles including audit, international reporting, financial systems, strategic planning and financial planning and analysis. After that, she accepted the position of Corporate Controller for Borden Foods and then went on to lead a smaller but exciting company, NCH Marketing Services, a global provider of promotional management solutions, where she was the U.S. President.
Three years ago, Wan Ling was hired by Wal-Mart International to be CFO and one year later, she was asked to take on strategy as an additional responsibility, playing an important role in shaping the strategic direction of Wal-Mart's international business. Her ability to speak multiple languages including Mandarin Chinese has been very useful in her present position.
Wan Ling's father was her role model and mentor, who "taught her self-reliance and clear thinking", skills she has applied well in her life. When asked about advice to women climbing the corporate ladder, Wan Ling responded that "you are the master of your own destiny ... and never forget it is just as important to help others to succeed as well". Wan Ling very much follows her own advice and she mentors many associates at Wal-Mart, truly believing it is her job to help them succeed. When Wan Ling was a panelist at an AWIB Corporate Leadership Conference in 2006, she was everyone's favorite speaker. She received dozens of emails from attendees and despite her busy schedule, mentored several of the women.
Wan Ling is active in the Committee of 100 and a member of the International Women's Forum.

Lee Scott is chairman of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. From 2000 to February 2009, Scott served as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. During his tenure, the company emerged as the world’s largest retailer with more than 2 million associates, and 7,390 retail operations in 16 markets around the world serving more than 2 million customers per year. The company earned the Fortune No. 1 spot six times between 1998 and 2008 and had sales of more than $374 billion in 2007. Scott joined Wal-Mart in 1979 as an assistant director in the Logistics division, rising through the ranks to executive vice president of Logistics in 1993 and executive vice president of Merchandise in 1995. He became president and chief executive officer of the Wal-Mart Stores U.S. division in 1998, chief operating officer and vice chairman for the corporation in 1999, and president and CEO in 2000. Building on the foundation of values Sam Walton put in place, Scott made people a priority, creating an environment where diversity, innovation and excellence could flourish. Under his leadership, Wal-Mart assembled a strong team of senior leaders who transformed the business to thrive in a more complex global environment while keeping the company’s mission of “saving people money so they can live better” relevant to a changing world. Wal-Mart is now recognized as a vital part of the solution to the most pressing economic and social challenges. In response to the health care crisis in the U.S., the Wal-Mart team introduced $4 generic prescription drugs and in-store health clinics, and partnered with other employers and opinion leaders to call for major health care reform. The company also expanded its benefits and bonus program for associates. In the area of social and environmental responsibility, Wal-Mart has emerged as a leader in sustainable practices, leveraging Wal-Mart’s global reach in three key areas: renewable energy, zero waste and sustainable products. The company has also set aggressive goals to work with suppliers in building a more responsible global supply chain. A native of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas. In addition to serving on the board of directors of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Scott serves on the board of directors of the United Negro College Fund. He and his wife, Linda, live in Rogers, Arkansas.
