The City Sports concept was developed by two high school and college buddies who lived and worked in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston. Mike Kennedy and Eric Martin were friends and fierce sports competitors on the court, ice, and field and found that their city lacked a destination for the sporting goods they needed. At 24 years old, the pair without a retail business background, opened their first store on Massachusetts Avenue in 1983. Within four years they had developed a brand, a look, and a product mix that excited city dwellers and workers enough to open a second location. After 25 years City Sports has grown into an award winning specialty sports retailer and now operates 15 retail shops in the Metropolitan locations of Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Atlanta. Taken directly from its name, City Sports stores are located on the best streets in some of the best cities. Mike Kennedy still runs the company today. Eric Martin passed away in September 2007. City Sports focuses on the athletic, metropolitan adult. Our product assortment stresses a performance selection in shoes, apparel and equipment. We're geared towards customers and employees who enjoy running, fitness, racquet sports, swimming and being outdoors. We feature many top name brands as well as our own private label brand, CS by City Sports.
