Phillip Riese has served as a director of Hypercom since October 2004. Mr. Riese has been President of Riese & Others, providing advisory and consultancy services to an array of Fortune 500, and private and publicly held mid-cap companies, since 1998. He is an operating partner with a number of venture capital and private equity firms. Mr. Riese spent 18 years at American Express in a variety of positions, ultimately as President of the Consumer Card Services Group before retiring in 1998. Mr. Riese previously had been a division executive at Chase Manhattan Bank, and before that a partner in the consulting firm of M.C. Geffen and Associates, Cape Town, South Africa. After leaving American Express, Mr. Riese also served as Chief Executive Officer and a director of AirClic Inc., and of OptiMark Technologies. Mr. Riese holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from Leeds University in the United Kingdom, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Cape Town, and a Masters Degree in management from the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management, where he was a Sloan Fellow.
