George Carpenter is a results-oriented executive with a passion for leading high growth and turnaround companies. As President of CNS Response, Inc., George is leading the commercialization of the company's patented Referenced-EEG technology for psychiatric medication management. Before joining CNS Response Inc., George ran WorkWell Systems Inc., an international physical medicine firm and 2004 winner of the ABL Innovation in Healthcare Award. From 1990 to 2002, George served as Chairman and CEO of CORE, Inc., (Nasdaq: CORE) after leading the management buyout of this division of Baxter Healthcare. A finalist in the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year program, Carpenter led CORE to a record of clinical software innovation and business development that, in the words of one Wall Street analyst, "created an industry". CORE was acquired in 2001 by Assurant Inc. George was a Vice President of Operations with Baxter Healthcare before founding CORE. His career began at Inland Steel in manufacturing process control and Sales. Serving on various biomedical advisory and fiduciary boards, he is a frequent speaker and writer on healthcare technology and financing issues. His book "The Shape of Things" (LRP Publications, 2006) focused on the neurochemistry of obesity and its impact on the American workforce. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and a BA with Distinction in International Policy & Law from Dartmouth College.
Leonard Brandt co-founded CNS Response (CNSO) of Orange County, CA, in 2000 and is its CEO. In many ways this results from his venture capital investment experience, which taught him of the significant need for technology advancement in mental and addictive medicine. He believes that CNSO will dramatically improve the well being of people suffering from these disorders. Len's prior experience is extensive in new ventures from both venture capital and operating perspectives. As a General Partner at Norwest Ventures he led the fund's investment activity throughout the 1980's in all areas of the healthcare including, biopharmaceutical, healthcare services, medical devices and diagnostics. After that Len turned entrepreneur co-founding Time Segment Publishing and Mill City Ventures Consulting. He co-founded Embro Vascular, the dominant supplier of technology for least-invasive saphenous vein harvesting (heart bypass surgery) now supplied through Boston Scientific (BSX). Len's involvement with an innovative supplier of neurostimulation lead technology, Micronet Medical, (purchased by Advanced Neuromodulation Systems and then St. Jude Medical (STJ)) refocused his attention on CNS analytics and treatment. Len was educated at the University of Illinois and Harvard. He is expanding his education with, Fatherhood 102, a field educational course begun in January 2004 (girl) after successfully completing Fatherhood for Twin Girls 101 on April 6,1999. He is proud to have passed the challenging prerequisite, Husband 101, on April 5, 1997, but his key advisor has suggested he could benefit from an executive educational refresher course. He is an ex-basketball player, ex-skier, ex-autoracer, ex-touring motorcyclist, ex-golfer, and ex-poker player; however, he is known to still masquerade as a squash player.
Daniel Hoffman, MD is a Neuropsychiatrist with over 25 years experience treating general psychiatric conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety. He provides the newest advances in diagnosing and treating attentional and learning problems in children and adults. In his talk, he reviewed findings that have been emerging from the National Institute of Mental Health's Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) study, of which he is a co-principal investigator. Begun in 1999, STAR*D is the largest study of depression treatment ever conducted, involving 14 regional centers and a total of 41 clinical sites. Dr. Fava described the 2,876 participants as a real-world representation of depression patients in terms of sex, ethnicity, mean age, age of onset of illness, rate of recurrence and associated conditions, such as anxiety, hypertension and diabetes.
