Dow Jones Description

CNX GAS CORPORATION is a Pittsburgh-based independent natural gas exploration, development, production and gathering company operating in the Appalachian Basin of the United States. In particular, we are a leading producer of coalbed methane (CBM). Our production in 2006 was 56.1 billion cubic feet (Bcf), making us, we believe, the second largest gas producer in the Appalachian Basin. Proved reserves at December 31, 2006 were 1.265 trillion cubic feet (Tcf). Only 48% of these reserves were developed at year end. Net unproved reserves at year end were 1.855 trillion cubic feet, giving us a total 3P (proved, probable, and possible) reserve base of 3.120 Tcf. Importantly, we have yet to assign any reserves to 640,000 acres out of our total of 2.46 million gross acres. Potential drill sites, again excluding the unevaluated acreage, exceed 9,500. With a 2007 drilling program of about 400 wells, we believe that we have decades of opportunity ahead of us. CNX Gas was established on June 30, 2005. CONSOL Energy Inc. contributed its gas assets to CNX Gas effective August 8, 2005, and retains an 81.5% ownership interest. Our stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CXG. The value of the company's stock at December 31, 2006 was $25.50 per share, resulting in a total equity market capitalization of $3.85 billion. We began extracting CBM in the early 1980s in order to reduce the gas content in the coal being mined by CONSOL Energy. We developed techniques to extract...
