Dow Jones Description

Founded in 1941, Coach was acquired by Sara Lee Corporation (Sara Lee) in 1985. In June 2000, Coach was incorporated in the state of Maryland. In October 2000, Coach was listed on the New York Stock Exchange and sold approximately 68 million shares of common stock, split adjusted, representing 19.5% of the outstanding shares. In April 2001, Sara Lee completed a distribution of its remaining ownership in Coach via an exchange offer, which allowed Sara Lee stockholders to tender Sara Lee common stock for Coach common stock. In June 2001, Coach Japan, Inc. (Coach Japan) was formed to expand our presence in the Japanese market and to exercise greater control over our brand in that country. Coach Japan was initially formed as a joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation. On July 1, 2005, we purchased Sumitomos 50% interest in Coach Japan, resulting in Coach Japan becoming a 100% owned subsidiary of Coach, Inc. In May 2008, the Company announced that it had reached agreements to a phased acquisition of the Coach domestic retail businesses in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China (Greater China) from its current distributor, the ImagineX group. These acquisitions will provide the Company with greater control over the brand in Greater China, enabling Coach to raise brand awareness and aggressively grow market share with the Chinese consumer. Coach expects these acquisitions will be completed in fiscal 2009.

When Lew Frankfort joined Coach, Inc. in 1979 as Vice President of New Business Development, the company’s sales were just $6 million. Over the last 28 years, Mr. Frankfort, now Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has literally transformed Coach from a cottage-industry manufacturer of leather goods into the premier American accessories brand. As of December, 2007, under Mr. Frankfort’s stewardship, Coach’s annual sales reached nearly $3 billion. In his nearly three decades at the company, Mr. Frankfort has continued to build upon Coach’s strong customer franchise by broadening product offerings, modernizing stores, accelerating retail expansion, improving operational efficiency and growing the brand’s international presence. At the beginning of his career at Coach, Mr. Frankfort spearheaded the development of Coach Stores and its introduction into international markets. In 1985, Coach was acquired by Sara Lee Corporation and he was appointed President of Coach. In 1995, Mr. Frankfort was named Chairman and CEO. During 2000, he oversaw Coach’s transition to a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Prior to his corporate career, Mr. Frankfort held various positions in the public sector, spending ten years in New York City government. For three of those years, he served as Commissioner of the Agency for Child Development and helped restore New York’s Head Start and day care programs during the fiscal crisis of the mid-1970s. Mr. Frankfort holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College, where he is Chair of the Visioning Cabinet, and an MBA in Marketing from Columbia University, where he holds a spot on the Board of Overseers of its Business School. Mr. Frankfort also serves on the Board of Directors of Teach for America, a public-private partnership aimed at eliminating educational inequity in America.Barron's selected Mr. Frankfort as one of 30 “Most Respected CEO’s” globally, in each of the last four years. Business Week named Coach one of the Top Performers in the “Business Week Fifty” in each of the last four years. Coach currently holds the #1 spot. Institutional Investor magazine voted Mr. Frankfort as the top CEO in his sector for years 2004 through 2008.

Gary Loveman is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. A former associate professor at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, Loveman joined the Fortune 500 company as Chief Operating Officer in 1998 and drew on his extensive background in retail marketing and service-management to develop and implement the gaming industry's most successful loyalty program, Total Rewards. Today, Total Rewards boasts more than 40 million customers and is largely responsible for the company's consistent same-store sales gains. Since being named CEO in January 2003, Loveman has presided over a period of growth and profitability that culminated in Harrah's June 2005 acquisition of Caesars Entertainment, Inc. -- at $9.4 billion, the largest single transaction in the industry's history. In December 2006, Harrah's agreed to go private in a $29 billion transaction led by private equity firms Texas Pacific Group and Apollo. Harrah's performance has led to its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, a group of international companies noted for creating long-term shareholder value, for six consecutive years. It also earned Loveman the distinction of being recognized as the gaming and lodging industry's best CEO by Institutional Investor magazine for four consecutive years. Loveman is the chairman of the American Gaming Association and an outside director of Coach, Inc. He also sits on the Board of Trustees at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and on the Trust Board at Children's Hospital Boston.
