Hugh Nevin, former President of Cohen & Grigsby, concentrates his practice in international business and tax. Mr. Nevin, who is fluent in German, focuses a substantial part of his practice in advising foreign enterprises and individuals investing and conducting their businesses in the United States. In this connection, he provides income and estate tax planning for foreign nationals and secures temporary and permanent visas and labor certifications.

For over 25 years, Mr. Hoehler's practice has focused on general corporate, finance and real estate matters, with a concentration in the representation of clients in the energy industry. In addition to energy law, Mr. Hoehler's practice includes municipal law (Solicitor for the City of Greensburg), and land use matters (Solicitor for the City of Greensburg Zoning Hearing Board).

Cohen & Grigsby, P.C. elected Patrick S. Healy as a director of the firm. Mr. Healy is in the Business and Tax Group, concentrating his practice in finance, banking and real estate law, with an emphasis on tax-exempt municipal and authority finance; and corporate and governmental law. He also concentrates in Section 103 Federal Tax Code matters. Pat received a B.A. in economics from George Washington University in 1980 and his J.D. from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 1989, where he was the associate editor of the Catholic University Law Review. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Pennsylvania Association of Bond Lawyers, as well as the Allegheny County and the Blair County Bar Associations.

Arthur C. Sandel joins the Firm as an Associate. Mr. Sandel received his B.S.F.S. (Certificate in European Studies, Dean's List) from Georgetown University in 1996, his M.P.I.A. (Certificate in International Security Studies, Faculty Award) from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs in 2001, and his J.D. (cum laude, Certificate in International and Comparative Law; Semester Honors; Law Review, Senior Managing Editor), University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2001. Mr. Sandel is proficient in Polish.

Beth A. Boyce joins the Estates and Trusts Group as an Associate. She concentrates her practice in the area of estate planning and administration and tax matters, including comprehensive estate planning involving strategies for minimizing wealth transfer taxes, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax consequences of lifetime and testamentary transfers. Ms. Boyce earned her B.A. and B.M. (magna cum laude, Phi Kappa Phi) from Duquesne University in 1992, her J.D. (High Honors, Florida State University Law Review, Order of the Coif) from Florida State University College of Law in 1995, and her LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Denver College of Law in 1996. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Ms. Boyce was an associate with the law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll in Pittsburgh. She resides in Pittsburgh.

Ms. Engel focuses her practice in tax and estate planning matters. She has over 18 years of public accounting experience with Pittsburgh regional firms, and she is a frequent speaker on the subjects of estate planning, personal taxation, corporate taxation, alternative minimum tax issues, and tax implications for S corporations.

Christine L. Wettach joins Cohen & Grigsby's Litigation Group as an Associate. Ms. Wettach focuses her practice in environmental law. She earned a degree in chemistry at the University of North Carolina and earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Ms. Wettach was with the firm of Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir.

David I. Cohen joins Cohen & Grigsby's Business/Tax Group as a Director. He regularly handles divestitures, acquisitions and reorganizations and advises technology related businesses on financing, development, licensing and confidentiality agreements, contracts for management information systems and executive compensation, as well as general tax matters. Mr. Cohen has assisted companies and institutions in manufacturing, healthcare, education, and service industries in the acquisition and licensing of technology. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, he had been a partner at Titus & McConomy since 1995. Meryl Macklin joins Cohen & Grigsby's Litigation Group as a Director. Ms. Macklin focuses her practice in complex business litigation including real estate litigation, antitrust litigation, securities litigation, accountants' liability litigation, environmental litigation and major contract and business tort actions. She has represented clients in a wide variety of manufacturing, service, and communications businesses. Ms. Macklin earned her B.A. from Yale University in 1980 and her J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley in 1984. She is a member of the State Bar of California and is an active speaker and writer on numerous litigation topics. Ms. Macklin also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the California Litigation Review from 1995-98. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Ms. Macklin was a partner with the firm of Christa & Jackson in Los Angeles, California. Gerald J. Iwanejko, Jr. joins Cohen & Grigsby's Litigation Group as an Associate. He concentrates on patent trademark and copyright law and deals with all aspects of technology protection, including patent prosecution, licensing and litigation. After earning a degree in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1987, Mr. Iwanejko served as an officer in the U.S. Navy where he gained extensive experience in electrical, nuclear, mechanical, materials and computer engineering. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, he had been an associate at Titus & McConomy since 1995.

David M. Paul is a lawyer with the law firm of Berger & Lagnese, LLC. Mr. Paul represents people who have been injured or killed as a result of medical malpractice, defective products, motor vehicles, and unsafe property. Mr. Paul has worked on numerous cases involving failure to diagnose and treat colon cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, brain injury, and surgical error, including mistakes made during surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Mr. Paul also has extensive experience representing victims of defamation. Mr. Paul graduated with from the College of Wooster in 1985. While at Wooster, Mr. Paul received the Elias Compton Freshman Prize, the Mary Allen Sanborn Prize, and Jonas O. Notestine Award, given to the graduating senior who achieved the highest level of scholarship over the four year college course. He graduated with highest honors, both overall and in his major. Mr. Paul was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Paul went on to receive a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy in 1990 from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1993. While at Pitt Law, Mr. Paul was a Law Fellows Scholar, and an associate editor at the Journal of Law and Commerce. He was the recipient of the 1992 William H. Eckert Prize for superior legal writing, and he published a note in the University of Pittsburgh Law Review (54 U.Pitt.L.Rev. 893 (1993)). Upon completing law school, Mr. Paul served as judicial clerk to the Honorable Alan N. Bloch of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania (1993-94) and as judicial clerk to the Honorable Timothy K. Lewis, formerly of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (1994-95). After working a year and a half at the prestigious Pittsburgh law firm of Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. Paul was given an opportunity to become a trial lawyer on the plaintiffs' side at the law firm of Berger & Lagnese. Mr. Paul was raised in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Franklin Regional High School in 1980. While in high school, Mr. Paul was a three year starter on the boys varsity basketball team, and a three year letterman in track and field. He was voted "Best All Around" by his senior class. Mr. Paul is married with four children, ranging in age from 15 to 3. Mr. Paul's hobbies include reading, walking, creative writing, and biking. Mr. Paul is fluent in Spanish and has lived extensively abroad, including Chile, Spain, Puerto Rico, and India.

Ellen Freeman joins Cohen & Grigsby's Business/Tax Group as an Associate. Ms. Freeman's primary area of practice is international law. She earned her M.A. from Odessa State University in 1989 and a Masters Degree from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. She is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, . Ms. Freeman is fluent in Russian and Ukrainian.

Geoffrey B. Dendy joins the Litigation Group as an Associate. He concentrates his practice in counseling owners, general contractors and subcontractors in all areas of construction litigation, including construction law and public contracts, government contracts, and commercial litigation. Mr. Dendy earned his B.A. from the College of William & Mary in 1994 and his J.D. (cum laude; Associate Editor, Kentucky Law Journal) from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1997. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. Dendy was an associate with the law firm of Kilpatrick Stockton in Atlanta. He resides in Cranberry Township.

Joshua A. Hajek joins Cohen & Grigsby's Litigation Group as an Associate. Mr. Hajek's primary area of practice is litigation. He earned his B.A. from University of North Carolina in 1994 and is a recent graduate of Wake Forest School of Law.

Ms. Ross is a paralegal with more than 10 years of experience. Her skills, education and background enable her to understand human resources responsibilities and functions, including what employers must do to minimize risk of employment lawsuits.

Matthew F. Schwartz joins the Estates and Trusts Group as an Associate. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate and trust planning, administration, estate and gift taxation issues. Mr. Schwartz received his B.A. in Economics and Mathematical Methods (Mathematical Methods Departmental Honors) from Northwestern University in 1994 and his J.D. (Historian, Phi Delta Phi) from Washington University School of Law in 1997. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. Schwartz was an associate at the Pittsburgh based law firm of Thorp Reed & Armstrong.

Ms. Finkelstein specializes in U.S. Customs consultation, including Title 18 and Title 19 of U.S. Customs laws regarding imports and exports on both civil and criminal matters.

Michael A. Pollner joins Cohen & Grigsby's Business/Tax Group as an Associate. Mr. Pollner's primary areas of practice are corporate law and litigation. He earned his B.S. from the University of Maryland in 1996 and is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Morgan J. Hanson joins the Litigation Group as an Associate.A He concentrates his practice in the areas of general commercial litigation, insurance subrogation, product liability, antitrust, insurance coverage, criminal defense, and torts.A Mr. Hanson received his B.A. (with Honors and Distinction) from the University of Iowa in 1996 and his J.D. (with High Distinction, Order of the Coif) from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1999.A Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. Hanson was an associate at the Minneapolis-based law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi.A He resides in Mt. Lebanon.

Ms. Crombie focuses her practice in U.S. and international tax planning and compliance for individuals, corporations, and partnerships. She is a certified public accountant with over 23 years of experience with domestic and international tax issues. In addition, she has directed and worked with various corporate tax departments in a number of industries for several Pittsburgh corporations.

Sarah C. Gage joins the Firm as an Associate. Ms. Gage received her B.A. (cum laude, Notre Dame Scholar, Phi Alpha Theta) from the University of Notre Dame in 1997 and her J.D. (H. Claude Horack Law Scholar) from the Duke University School of Law in 2001. Ms. Gage is also a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves. Mark A. May joins the Litigation Group as an Associate. He concentrates his practice in the areas of general commercial litigation, intellectual property involving non-compete agreements, contract disputes, and employment contract matters. Mr. May received his B.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1985 and his J.D. (cum laude; Order of Coif; Senior and Associate Editor, Law Review) from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1998. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. May was an associate at the Pittsburgh-based law firm of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart.

Mr. Cohen is a founder and the Chairman of the Pittsburgh law firm of Cohen & Grigsby, P.C. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he taught securities regulation for 22 years and currently teaches a seminar entitled "Enterprise Organization and Finance." In private practice for over 32 years, Mr. Cohen has gained extensive experience in planning, negotiating and documenting public and private capital formation transactions and business combination transactions. He has also devoted considerable time to serve as a director of public and private for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations. Mr. Cohen currently serves as a Director on the Boards of DQE, Inc., Giant Eagle, Eat 'n Park, Industrial Scientific, Robroy Industries, Precision Therapeutics, Preservation Technologies, The Institute for Transfusion Medicine and is Chairman of Jewish Healthcare Foundation. He is also an active arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, as well as a member of The American Law Institute and the American Bar Association. Mr. Cohen received his J.D. degree with distinction from the University of Michigan Law School in 1965 and his undergraduate degree with distinction from Dartmouth College in 1962.

Mr. Nelson is a founding member of Cohen & Grigsby and a former president of the Firm. His practice encompasses a broad array of complex commercial litigation. Among other areas of emphasis, Mr. Nelson has defended accounting firms, brokerage firms, financial institutions and other companies accused of committing securities laws violations. With more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Grigsby was a trial lawyer actively engaged in civil litigation and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Grigsby was a prolific speaker on the topics of evidence, trial tactics, product liability, medical malpractice and in programs sponsored by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Grigsby had been extensively quoted in professional journals, newspapers and magazine articles, both nationally and regionally. He was a Judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, 1978-1979.
