W. James O'Shea has served as a member of our Board of Directors since June 2007. From October 1999 to March 2007 Mr. O'Shea was President and Chief Operating Officer at Sepracor where he was responsible for successfully building that organization's commercial infrastructure. From April to August 2007, Mr. O'Shea served as Sepracor's Vice Chairman. Prior to Sepracor, Mr. O'Shea was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Medical Affairs for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, a business unit of Zeneca Inc. While at Zeneca, he also held several management positions of increasing responsibility in international sales and marketing in the U.S. and U.K. Mr. O'Shea is an Executive Board member and past Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Council and is also a Board member of Surface Logix, Inc. Mr. O'Shea is a graduate of Liverpool Lord Byron University. He received an honors degree in applied physics from the Institute of Physics.

Dr. Stockwell is one of the scientific co-founders of CombinatoRx. Dr. Stockwell's research at Columbia involves application of chemical genetics to the study of orphan genetic diseases, including sarcomas, spinal muscular atrophy and Huntington's disease. Prior to joining the faculty of Columbia University, he was a fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, where he developed new tools for chemical genetics and identified novel compounds with relevance to cancer and neurodegeneration. Dr. Stockwell studied organic chemistry and molecular biology during his graduate training under Stuart L. Schreiber in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. While at Harvard, he was awarded National Science Foundation and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Pre-doctoral Fellowships, and a number of teaching awards. Dr. Stockwell received his A.B. degree from Cornell University, graduating Summa cum Laude with membership in Phi Beta Kappa and a dual major in chemistry and economics. In 2002, he was awarded a Career Award at the Scientific Interface from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund for his interdisciplinary research. Back to Top

Dr. Golub is currently Director of the Cancer Program of the Broad Institute, the Charles A. Dana Investigator at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Golub received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, followed by clinical training in oncology at Harvard. He has served on numerous committees, including the pharmacy and therapeutics committee of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, has co-chaired National Cancer Institute progress review groups, and serves on multiple editorial and advisory boards. Dr. Golub is the recipient of numerous awards, including The Daland Prize of the American Philosophical Society, Discover Magazine Inventor of the Year (Health Category), and the American Association for Cancer Research's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Research. Dr. Lee R. Wrubel, General Partner, Foundation Medical Partners, has over ten years of experience in venture capital and has been associated with a large number of private companies, including such now publicly traded companies as Pozen Pharmaceuticals, OraPharma, and GenVec. Prior to starting Foundation Medical Partners, Dr. Wrubel was an investment professional with Canaan Partners and more recently Highland Capital Partners, where he specialized in biotechnology and medical device investments. Dr. Wrubel serves on the board of directors of EndoGastric Solutions, Inc., CardioMEMS, Inc. and Vascular Architects, Inc. Dr. Wrubel began his business career as a consultant at The Wilkerson Group, a health care-focused management consulting company. Dr. Wrubel completed a pediatric internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He holds an A.B. from Lafayette College, an M.D. and Masters in Public Health from Tufts University, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. Dr. Wrubel serves on the Translational Research Advisory Committee of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and is a member of the Health Leadership Council of Save The Children.

Dr. Foley is currently Director of the Chemical Biology Platform and Director of Medicinal Chemistry at the Broad Institute, a research collaboration of MIT, Harvard and its affiliated hospitals and the Whitehead Institute. Dr. Foley is one of the scientific founders of CombinatoRx and a leading expert in solid-phase synthesis of stereochemically complex small molecules and medicinal chemistry. Dr. Foley was previously Vice President of Chemical Technologies at Infinity Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Foley was a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology (ICCB), a joint academic institute between Harvard Medical School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Foley served as the Head of Chemical Technology for the ICCB. Prior to his academic faculty appointment, Dr. Foley worked in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 10 years, building up his base of expertise in medicinal chemistry at Bristol-Myers Squibb and Glaxo Wellcome. Dr. Foley earned his Ph.D. in chemistry at Harvard University in the laboratories of Dr. Stuart Schreiber, researching the interface of chemistry and biology. Back to Top

Michael Kauffman joined as a member of our board of directors in June 2006. Dr. Kauffman joined Predix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the predecessor to EPIX, in September 2002. Prior to that he held a number of senior medical and program leadership positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., including Vice President, Medicine and VELCADE Program Leader as well as co-founder and Vice President of Medicine at Millennium Predictive Medicine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Millennium. Dr. Kauffman also served as Medical Director at Biogen Corporation (now Biogen Idec). Dr. Kauffman currently serves on the board of directors for Bioenvision, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company. Dr. Kauffman received his MD and Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry at Johns Hopkins and his BA in biochemistry summa cum laude from Amherst College. He trained in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess and Massachusetts General Hospitals. He is board certified in internal medicine.
