Timothy M. Shannon, M.D. has been one of our Directors since his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2007. Dr. Shannon served as our Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer from January 2004 until his promotion to President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2007. From September 2002 until December 2003, Dr. Shannon served as our Senior Vice President of Research and Development. Prior to joining us, Dr. Shannon worked in positions of increasing responsibility for Bayer's Pharmaceutical Business Group, where his last position was Head and Senior Vice President of Global Medical Development. Dr. Shannon earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Amherst College and his M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Mr. Wurzer has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Company since September 1997. Mr. Cassidy served as Corporate Controller of 454 Life Sciences Corporation (454) since September 2002. Mr. Cassidy joined 454 when it was a development stage company and supported its growth into a successful commercial entity. During this time, Mr. Cassidy assisted 454 in a private round of financing in 2003, entering into a comprehensive License, Supply and Distribution Agreement with Roche Applied Science in 2005 and in the acquisition of 454 by Roche Applied Science in 2007. Prior to joining 454, Mr. Cassidy served as Manager of Financial Planning at CuraGen Corporation from August 2001 to September 2002. Mr. Cassidy also spent over eight years at Deloitte & Touche LLP's Hartford office in the audit practice. During this time Mr. Cassidy served both public and private companies in various industries; advising these clients on public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisition due diligence reviews and annual and quarterly reporting requirements under the Securities and Exchange Commission's rules and regulations.
Mr. Cassidy earned both his Master of Business Administration degree and his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut in 2000 and 1992, respectively. Mr. Cassidy is a certified public accountant in the State of Connecticut.

Mr. Finigan joined CuraGen with more than 20 years of legal and strategic experience and has served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Company since August 2006. Prior to joining CuraGen, Mr. Finigan served as Corporate Counsel at 454 Life Sciences, Inc. Previously, he was a member of the Business Law Practice at Day, Berry & Howard, LLP, served as Chief Legal Officer and Strategic Advisor for Lumenos, Inc., a provider of consumer-driven health care programs, and prior to that was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Value Health, Inc., a NYSE-listed provider of specialty managed care services and mail order prescription drugs. Mr. Finigan also held the position of Division Counsel at CIGNA Corporation and was Assistant General Counsel at U.S. Healthcare. Mr. Finigan is a member of the Board of Directors, Audit and Compensation Committees of Radnor Holdings Corporation, a leading manufacturer of food packaging and specialty chemical products. Mr. Finigan received a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and a B.S. in economics from Villanova University.

Ms. Whayland is Corporate Secretary and has served as Senior Vice President of Finance since October 2005, Vice President of Finance since January 2003, and Director of Financial Management since joining CuraGen in 1994. Ms. Taylor began her pharmaceutical career with Pfizer Global Research and Development and has taken positions of increasing responsibility rising to the position of Vice President, North America Regulatory Affairs at Bayer Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Taylor earned her B.S. in Biochemistry from Michigan State University and her M.P.H. from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Henck has served as Senior Vice President of Operations since June 2006, as Vice President of Operations since January 2003, and prior to that as Director of Operations. Before joining CuraGen in 1997, Dr. Henck worked for seven years at Texas Instruments, Inc., where he held positions of increasing responsibility in the digital imaging and semiconductor groups. Dr. Lichenstein has served as Vice President of Product Development and prior to that as Vice President of Preclinical Development since March 2003. Before joining CuraGen in 1998, Dr. Lichenstein worked for 11 years at Amgen Inc., where he held positions of increasing responsibility and headed up teams to identify protein therapeutics, monoclonal antibodies and small molecule drugs in multiple disease areas. Dr. Lichenstein earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

James J. Noble, M.A., F.C.A. has been one of our Directors since 2007. Mr. Noble has been Chief Executive Officer of two privately held biotech companies in the United Kingdom, Immunicore Limited and Adaptimmune Limited sinceOctober 2008 and July 2008, respectively. From 2006 to July 2008, Mr. Noble was self-employed as an advisor to various companies. Mr. Noble served as the Chief Executive Officer of Avidex, Ltd. from 2000 until its acquisition in September 2006 by MediGene AG, a listed German company. He currently serves as Chairman of 3D Diagnostics PLC, Director of GW Pharmaceuticals PLC, and as Non-Executive Director of Evolve Capital PLC, Blue Oar PLC, and Axellis Limited. Mr. Noble received his Modern Languages degree from Oxford University and qualified as an accountant with Price Waterhouse, now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Lance Willsey, MD has served as a director since May 2000. Dr. Willsey was a founding partner of DCF Capital from July 1998 to April 2002. From July 1997 to July 1998, Dr. Willsey served on the Staff Department of Urologic Oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard University School of Medicine. From July 1996 to July 1997, Dr. Willsey served on the Staff Department of Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University School of Medicine, where he was a urology resident from July 1992 to July 1996. Dr. Willsey is also a director of Exelixis, Inc. Dr. Willsey holds a BS in physiology from Michigan State University and an MS in biology and an MD from Wayne State University. Patrick J. Zenner has served as a director since March 2003. In January 2001, Mr. Zenner retired from Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., North America, the prescription drug unit of the Roche Group, a leading research-based health care enterprise, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer since 1993, and was a member of the global Pharmaceutical Executive Committee. Mr. Zenner joined Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. as a sales representative in 1969 and subsequently held a series of marketing and business development posts that culminated in his being named Vice President and General Manager of Roche Laboratories in 1982. He later spent two and a half years with Roche Holding Ltd. as head of international pharmaceutical marketing, development and regulation. In 1988, Mr. Zenner was elected to Hoffmann-La Roche's Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and appointed Senior Vice President of the pharmaceutical division. Mr. Zenner also serves as a director of ArQule, Inc., Curagen Corporation, Dendrite International, Inc., First Horizon Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Genta Inc., Geron Corporation, Praecis Pharmaceuticals, Inc, West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. and Xoma Ltd. Mr. Zenner holds a BS in business administration from Creighton University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a Trustee of both universities.

Dr. Lloyd Smith is a UW-Madison professor of chemistry and director of the Genome Center of Wisconsin, part of the University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center. Dr. Smith received his doctorate from Stanford University in 1981, and was named to a John D. MacArthur Professorship at UW-Madison from 2003-2008. One of his research areas is mass spectrometry of proteins. His researchers are studying the proteins used in molecular signaling pathways in human embryonic stem cells. Dr. Smith is Principal Investigator of the 'proteomics core' of a joint grant involving WiCell, the UW-Madison Biotechnology Center and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
