Tony is our Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, and has 40 years of experience in the industry. From 1983 until December 2001, Tony was associated with Lloyd's Syndicate number 51 "A Taylor & Others," which was initially managed by Willis Faber Agencies and, after a management buy out, by Wellington Underwriting Agencies of which he was a founding director. From 1998 until 2001, Tony was Chairman of Wellington Underwriting Inc., as well as Underwriting Director of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited. During 2001, Tony was Chairman of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited and Deputy Chairman of Wellington Underwriting plc. Prior to 1998, Tony served as the Active Underwriter of Lloyd's Syndicate Number 51. Tony is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has held various committee and board positions for the Lloyd's market.

David has 20 years of reinsurance underwriting, risk management and capital markets experience. Prior to joining Montpelier Re, David worked for PartnerRe in a number of capacities, including overseeing the evaluation of group risk-based capital requirements, underwriting domestic U.S. and international treaty reinsurance, and developing non-traditional solutions for insurance clients. Before joining PartnerRe, he underwrote the international property catastrophe book at Tempest Reinsurance and worked as an insurance securities analyst at Morgan Stanley. He began his reinsurance career in 1983 at General Reinsurance in the property facultative department in New York. David received his BA in Economics from Bowdoin College and MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
John is responsible for Property Retrocession,
Marine, and Property Reinsurance business
emanating out of London. Prior to joining the
Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd., John was the Guy
Carpenter (UK) Ltd. representative in Bermuda.
Earlier, John worked for Guy Carpenter within
the London Market and Retrocession Division
in the United Kingdom. John began his career
at R. Hampton & Others, Syndicate 179, at
Lloyd’s and was also director at Winchester
Bowring, the specialist division of C.T. Bowring
(now part of Guy Carpenter), for LMX business.
Kip joined Montpelier Re in 2004 from White Mountains Capital, where he was Managing Director. Previously, Kip was a Vice President of OneBeacon Insurance Group and of White Mountains Insurance Group. He began his career as a financial analyst with Stern Stewart & Co and was a convertible bond trader at CSFB in Tokyo before joining White Mountains in 1995, where he gained extensive experience of the M&A, investment banking, capital management and investment aspects of the insurance and reinsurance industry. He graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1991.
Tom serves as our Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. From 1985 to 2000, Tom was employed by Wellington Underwriting plc, where he served as Director and Group Secretary and as Director and Secretary of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited. Prior to his employment with Wellington Underwriting plc, Tom served as Director and Company Secretary of Richard Beckett Underwriting Agencies Limited. He has also served as Chairman of Lloyd's Underwriting Agents Association and as a member of the Business Conduct Committee of Lloyd's Regulatory Board and of Lloyd's/FSA Liaison Committee.

Jonathan is responsible for overseeing our legal and compliance issues. He began his legal career in Washington, DC as a law clerk with the Department of Justice in their Criminal Tax Division. Subsequently, he worked for Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (presently known as Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP) in New York. He has also served as in-house counsel to a number of start up ventures and worked in London as an account director for Modem Media, Inc. (now a division of Digitas, Inc.) Prior to joining Montpelier Re, Jonathan was with AXA Advisors, LLC, part of the AXA Group, in New York. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and received his MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Yale School of Management and his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

Paul has 23 years of experience in both the London and Bermuda markets. Prior to joining Montpelier Re in May 2002, Paul spent 8 years at PMG in Bermuda where he served as Senior Underwriting Officer. Before coming to Bermuda in 1994, Paul worked for ten years as a Broker in the London market for Aon, Winchester Bowring, Hinton Hill and HWS. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurer.
Paul is responsible for underwriting the Specialty Treaty account, including WCA catastrophe excess of loss, Personal Accident and Life Cat catastrophe excess of loss, Terrorism, Aviation & Marine. He also underwrites the Canadian Property Cat account. Paul has 15 years industry experience, and previously wrote a predominantly property cat xol & property risk xol account in London for Danish re, Copenhagen Re & Wellington Syndicates Ltd, with an emphasis on US, UK & Canadian business. Paul holds an Honours Degree in Zoology (Bachelor of Science) and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).
Steve is responsible for reserving, catastrophe modeling and risk management. Prior to joining Montpelier Re, Steve spent 12 years with Royal & Sun Alliance in Charlotte, NC and London, serving in a variety of actuarial roles including pricing, reserving, capital management, and reinsurance. Steve holds a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a FCAS (Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society) and MAAA (Member of the American Academy of Actuaries).
Aline joined Montpelier Re in 2002 from PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Insurance Division in Bermuda. Prior to that, she worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Canada for three years in the small business division. Aline holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada, and is qualified as a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.
David is responsible for the planning, management and administration of the company's information technology and business systems, including the selection of information technology solutions, design of infrastructure and systems architecture, execution and project management, direction of technical personnel and external resources, establishment and maintenance of IT strategies, policies, procedures and security measures. Before coming to Montpelier Re, David worked as a consultant.

Jon is responsible for underwriting direct property insurance as well as managing and underwriting terrorism business in both the direct and reinsurance arenas. Jon has 16 years experience in the London insurance market and, prior to joining Montpelier Re, was an Executive Director at Willis Global Markets managing their international terrorism placing team. Earlier, Jon was an underwriter for American International Group and ACE Europe dealing with 'Special Risks' business including Kidnap & Ransom, Product Recall and Sabotage & Terrorism.
Richard is responsible for underwriting the
International Property Treaty account alongside
Mark Yeulett. Prior to joining Montpelier
Reinsurance Ltd, Richard worked for ACE
Tempest Re in Bermuda as Vice President of
the U.S. Property Catastrophe Account. Before
transferring to Bermuda, he worked at ACE
Tempest Re’s London office (Lloyd’s Syndicate
2488) as Underwriter of the International
Property Catastrophe and Per Risk account.
Richard began his career with Syndicate 219
(RAE) at Lloyd’s.
Nick serves as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Montpelier Marketing Services (UK) Limited. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Managing Director in the London office of HartRe Company, LLC. From 1992 to 1998, Nick was employed by Willis Faber North America (U.K.), where he served as Managing Director. Prior to joining Willis Faber, Nick served as Chairman of MCWinn Underwriting Agencies and Director of Claremount Underwriting Agency. He also served as an underwriter for 18 years in the following Lloyd's syndicates: Syndicate 558, Syndicate 674 and Sir Philip d'Ambrumenil Syndicate.

J. Roderick Heller is Chairman and CEO of Carnton Capital Associates LP, a venture capital firm, and has more than 30 years' experience in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Heller serves on the board of directors of two public companies, Montpelier Ray Holdings, Ltd. (NYSE) and First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE), as well as three private companies. He recently served as Chairman of the National Capital Revitalization Corporation (2001-2003), a quasi-public entity that stimulates economic development in Washington, D.C. through real estate development, business finance and job creation. Mr. Heller assumed control of, and successfully turned around, several underperforming corporations. As Chairman and CEO of the National Housing Partnerships, Inc. (1985-1997), Mr. Heller built the housing consortium into the largest owner and operator of apartments in the U.S. and directed the public offering and subsequent sale of the company in 1995 and 1997. As President and CEO of Bristol Compressors, Inc. (1982-1985), a manufacturer of air conditioning compressors and condensing units that had not been profitable since its founding in 1975, Mr. Heller led the company to significant profits within two years. Bristol Compressors was sold in 1986 to York International, a global supplier of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Earlier in his career, Mr. Heller was a partner at the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C. (1971-1982), where his practice focused on corporate finance, with an emphasis on foreign investment transactions, real estate financing and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Heller holds an A.B. degree from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Danforth Foundation Fellowship and the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Mr. Heller also holds an M.A. degree in history from Harvard University and an LL.D degree from Harvard Law School.

John D. Gillespie has served as Managing Director of OneBeacon since June 2001 and has been a director of White Mountains since 1999. Mr. Gillespie's functions include that of Chief Investment Officer of OneBeacon. He is also the founder and Managing Partner of Prospector Partners, LLC, in Guilford, Connecticut. Prior to forming Prospector, Mr. Gillespie was President of the T. Rowe Price Growth Stock Fund and the New Age Media Fund, Inc. Raymond Barrette has been a director of the Company since August 2007. Since January 2007, Mr. Barrette has been Chairman and CEO of White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd. He served as a director of White Mountains from 2000 to 2005 and was re-appointed as a director in August 2006. He previously served as President and CEO of White Mountains from 2003 to 2005, as CEO of OneBeacon Insurance Company from 2001 to 2002, as President of White Mountains from 2000 to 2001 and as Chief Financial Officer of White Mountains from 1997 to 2000. William L. Spiegel, is a founder of Pine Brook Partners, a private equity firm that focuses on investments in the financial services and energy areas. William has over 16 years of private equity experience including more than six years of financial services investment experience. He was with the Cypress Group from inception in 1994 until 2006, where from 2005 he served as that firm's president. Beginning in 2001, William managed the financial services and healthcare investing activities of Cypress and served as a Director of all of Cypress' financial services and healthcare portfolio companies: Catlin Group Limited, FGIC Corporation, Medpointe, Inc., Montpelier Re Holdings ltd. and Scottish Re Group Limited. Prior to joining Cypress, William worked in the Merchant Banking Group at Lehman Brothers. He has served on the Boards of four public companies and two private companies. William holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
