Concord Hospital's legacy of providing care for the community's underserved began more than a century ago, with the formation of the Concord Hospital Association in 1884. In 1891, the association's headquarters could no longer meet the needs of the growing city and was replaced with the Margaret Pillsbury General Hospital. The 50-bed facility was built in response to the community's need for a charitable hospital that would provide care for the city's sick and poor. George A. Pillsbury, a successful Minneapolis businessman with ties to the Granite State, provided a gift of almost $60,000 to finance the construction of what would become the state's first general hospital. Because of Pillsbury's gift, the Margaret Pillsbury General Hospital, named in honor of the Pillsburys' 50th wedding anniversary, opened its doors to the public on Dec. 15, 1891. Meanwhile, a group of charitably inclined women were establishing a hospital for poor women and children. Five years after the opening of the Pillsbury General Hospital, the Memorial Hospital for Women and Children was opened on South Street in Concord. Despite expansions, the hospitals grew out of their facilities. At the start of World War II, it was evident a merger would be the most efficient way to care for...

In Case of (Non) Emergency
Anyone who's been in an emergency room knows about long waits. A heart attack patient is seen far faster than that cut finger that needs a stitch. Hoping to separate the true emergencies from those simply requiring urgent care, NH hospitals are increasingly opening walk-in clinics to better serve patients...

Gayle Kimball is a results-oriented, hands-on fundraiser with a proven track record of securing outright and deferred gifts in the six and seven figure range. During her 25-years in the non profit sector, she has worked with volunteer leadership, including Fortune 500 CEOs, of nationally renowned non-profit organizations as well as regional and community boards of directors. She brings her "Yankee" ingenuity and legal training to the table with a pragmatic approach that has helped build, expand, and sustain fundraising campaigns and initiatives. Prior to joining Copley Harris Company she founded Gift Planning Counsel, LLC, a New Hampshire-based consulting firm providing planned giving services to non profits organizations. She is currently working with Concord Hospital and New Hampshire Association for the Blind on the re-design of their major gift programs. While serving as Vice President for Development at Southwestern Vermont Health Care in Bennington, Vermont, she led the largest campaign in the history of the hospital and region to surpass its $3.5 million goal in the early 90s, and then built and sustained the growth of its comprehensive development program. Gayle has created and implemented successful planned giving and major gift programs for Connecticut Hospice, the nation's first and largest free-standing hospice, the American Heart Association/Connecticut, as well as Southwestern Vermont Health Care. She credits her work with Connecticut Hospice with starting her on a journey of discovery about conversing artfully with people about what they cherish -- and find of greatest meaning. Gayle has been active throughout her career in service to her profession and is currently president-elect of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Northern New England Chapter. She also writes test questions for CFRE International, which awards the certified fundraising executive credential. An active member of her community, she is a member of the Hopkinton, New Hampshire Rotary Club, serves on a task force for the Hopkinton School Board, and is a founding board member (and Chair) of the New Hampshire Women's Alliance, the fundraising arm of the New Hampshire Women's Lobby. A member of the New Hampshire Bar, she is a cum laude graduate of Western New England College School of Law and received her B.A. from Colgate University.
