Jay T. Flatley is our President, Chief Executive Officer and a Member of the Board of Directors. Prior to joining Illumina, Mr. Flatley was a Founder, President, CEO and a Member of the Board of Directors of Molecular Dynamics. While at Molecular Dynamics, Mr. Flatley was the primary interface with financial analysts and investors, leading the company's IPO in 1993 and the sale of the company to Amersham Pharmacia Biotech in 1998. Under his direction, the company developed and launched over 15 major instrumentation systems including the world's first capillary-based DNA sequencer. Prior to joining Molecular Dynamics, Mr. Flatley was VP of Engineering and VP of Strategic Planning for Plexus Computers, a manufacturer of high-performance Unix supermicrocomputers. Before joining Plexus, Mr. Flatley was Executive VP for Manning Technologies and held various manufacturing positions at the Autolab division of Spectra Physics. Mr. Flatley serves on the Board of Directors of GenVault Corporation, which provides archiving and retrieval solutions for DNA collections. Mr. Flatley received his BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College and his BS, MS (summa cum laude) in Industrial Engineering from Stanford.

John Stuelpnagel, D.V.M., one of Illumina's co-founders, is Senior Vice President, General Manager of the Microarray Business, and Chief Operating Officer. He has served as the Company's Chief Operating Officer since January 2005 and a Director since April 1998. From April 1998 to October 1999, he served as acting President and Chief Executive Officer and from April 1998 to April 2000 as acting Chief Financial Officer. Between October 1999 and January 2005 Dr. Stuelpnagel was Vice President of Business Development and later as Senior Vice President of Operations. While founding Illumina, Dr. Stuelpnagel was an associate with CW Group, a venture capital firm. John, born in southern California, received both a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine from the University of California (Davis, CA), and went on to receive a master of business administration degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Mostafa Ronaghi, Ph.D., joined Illumina in August 2008 and is responsible for leading internal research programs and evaluating new technologies for the Company.
Mostafa is an experienced entrepreneur and was involved in the start-up of four life sciences companies. In 2007, Mostafa co-founded Avantome, a privately-held sequencing company. Before this, he co-founded NextBio, a search engine for life science data. In 2001, Mostafa co-founded ParAllele Bioscience, which was eventually acquired by Affymetrix, Inc., and was involved in the development and commercialization of highly multiplexed technology for genetic testing. In 1997, he co-founded Pyrosequencing AB, which was renamed to Biotage in 2003, and led the company to a successful initial public offering in June 2000 on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Mostafa was a principal investigator at Stanford University from 2002–2008 and focused on the development of novel tools for molecular diagnostic applications. He serves on the board of directors of Microchip Biotechnologies, NextBio, and Aurora Biofuels.
Mostafa earned his Ph.D. from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Mostafa holds more than 20 pending and issued patents and has written more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in journals and books.

Dr. Kahn joins Illumina from Accelrys Inc., where he served as Chief Scientific Officer. Previously a key figure in product development and marketing at BioCAD Inc. and Molecular Simulations Inc., Dr. Kahn has over a decade of experience in computational chemistry and he has guided commercial development of some of the world's most widely used simulation products. His record includes involvement in the development of analysis tools for medicinal chemistry and in the creation of commercial modeling packages. Dr. Kahn received his Ph.D. in theoretical organic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, after which he did post-doctoral work at Cambridge University, UK. He is a former Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Arthur Holden is the Senior Vice President of Corporate and Business Development for Illumina. Mr. Holden joined Illumina in April 2006 and is responsible for leading business development and the development of relationships and partnerships with pharmaceutical firms, large-scale research consortia, and governmental bodies such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Mr. Holden was most recently the principal founder, chairman and chief executive officer for First Genetic Trust. Prior to this he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the SNP Consortium, Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer and Director of Celsis International, PLC. From 1983 to 1994 Mr. Holden held various executive positions at Baxter International. A winner of multiple awards, including the Laura Jackson Achievement Award for outstanding leadership in the healthcare industry, the Illinois Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship award and the STRIVE Entrepreneurial award, Arthur currently serves on a number of commercial and non-profit boards. He is chairman of the Pharmaceutical Biomedical Research and the Serious Adverse Event Consortia. In addition, he is Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Biotechnology Management Program at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is a director of iBIO and the Illinois Technology Development Alliance. Arthur, born in Providence, RI, earned a master of business administration degree from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management (Chicago, IL) and a bachelor of science degree from Union College (Schenectady, NY).

Bill joins Illumina from KLA-Tencor, a leading semiconductor equipment provider, where he served in several senior operations management positions. He brings with him a wealth of operations, manufacturing and management experience for some of the most complex equipment in the semiconductor industry. His most recent role was Vice President of Operations for KLA-Tencor's Reticle and Photomask Inspection, and Ebeam Divisions. Bill's leadership was instrumental in KLA-Tencor's efforts to successfully introduce lean manufacturing processes, product design improvements, and scaling the global supply chain operations. Prior to KLA-Tencor Bill was a member of the engineering center at Pacific Press Technology and conceived, designed, and implemented an automatic die-deflection compensation system.
Bill began his career at Procter and Gamble as a production manager and controls engineer. Bill earned his Masters of Business Administration from Santa Clara University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic University.

Christian (Chris) Cabou is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Illumina. Mr. Cabou, a 20-year veteran in engineering design and management prior to his career in law and intellectual property, joined Illumina in May 2006 and has worldwide responsibility for all legal and intellectual property matters, in addition to being responsible for the Company's human resources function. Mr. Cabou is also Illumina's Code of Ethics Compliance Officer. Before joining Illumina, Chris spent five years as General Counsel for GE Global Research and, before that, was Senior Counsel of Global Intellectual Property for GE Medical Systems. Prior to his stint at GE, Mr. Cabou spent seven years with the law firm Foley & Lardner where he was a partner. Mr. Cabou received a J.D. from Northwestern University's School of Law (Chicago, IL.) in addition to a Master of Engineering Management degree from Northwestern University. Mr. Cabou was awarded a MSEE (equivalent) degree from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (Paris, France) and a Bachelor of Science (equivalent) degree from the Lycee Technique d'Etat (Armentieres, France).

Greg Heath is responsible for managing Illumina’s emerging diagnostics business, specifically overseeing the development of diagnostic content for the BeadXpress system, and ultimately for the Illumina’s sequencing platform.
Greg has more than 20 years of experience in the diagnostics field, including launching the first FDA-approved microarray for diagnostic use. Greg joined Illumina from Roche Molecular Systems where he held a number of senior executive positions including head of clinical genomics, senior vice president of global product marketing, senior vice president of global marketing and business development, and most recently, senior vice president of global business. In this last role, Greg was responsible for new product development and global marketing activities for the infectious disease, blood screening, genetics and oncology portfolios. Greg was also responsible for the PCR licensing, industrial business, and business development programs. From 2000–2003, Greg was head of business development and licensing for the diagnostics division of F. Hoffman La Roche in Basel and led the strategic planning, business development, and licensing activities of the molecular diagnostics, centralized diagnostics, applied science, near patient testing, and diabetes care business areas. Prior to this, Greg held numerous roles in marketing and business development with Roche Diagnostics’ U.S. affiliate.
Greg graduated with a B.S. in psychology from Illinois State University and an M.A. in experimental psychology from Hollins College. He earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed his post-doctoral work in behavioral pharmacology at Michigan State University. Outside of his work at Illumina, Greg has also published more than 25 articles in science and business and participates in various internal and external leadership programs.
Joel McComb is responsible for managing all products and services related to the research market, namely the BeadArray, VeraCode, and sequencing product lines.
Joel joined Illumina from GE Healthcare where he held a number of executive positions including his most recent position as president of the interventional medicine business. Responsible for a $700 million division of GE Healthcare, the interventional medicine group provided a broad collection of products for the hospital interventional operating suite and physician's office with applications in cardiology, neurology, and oncology. Prior to this role, Joel was president of life sciences discovery systems, a $600 million division at GE Healthcare. In this role, Joel had responsibility for product development, manufacturing, service, global sales and marketing, information systems, quality, business development, and program management for molecular biology, genomics, proteomic, and cellular imaging products. From 2001–2004 Joel was president, chief executive officer, and board member of Innovadyne Technologies. He was responsible for the strategy and implementation of all operations, beginning with the startup of Innovadyne through its subsequent sale as a profitable business to Gilson, Inc. Prior to Innovadyne, Joel held various positions at Beckman Coulter, including roles as general manager of the primary care diagnostic division and director of corporate business development. As general manager, Joel was responsible for leading Beckman Coulter's $100 million primary care diagnostics division, which included the former SmithKline diagnostics businesses.
Joel received a B.S. in genetics from the University of California, Davis and an M.B.A from the Golden Gate University.

Tristan Orpin joined Illumina in December of 2002 in the role of Vice President of Worldwide Sales, and in January of 2007 was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations. Before joining Illumina, Mr. Orpin was Director of Sales and Marketing for Sequenom from September 1999 to August 2001. Later Mr. Orpin was elected Vice President of Sales and Marketing and held this position from August 2001 to November 2002. For more than a decade prior Mr. Orpin served in several senior sales and marketing positions at Bio-Rad Laboratories. Dr. Alan Kersey is Vice President and General Manager of our East Coast Site. Prior to joining Illumina, Dr. Kersey was President and CEO of Cyvera Corporation. Dr. Kersey joined CyVera from CiDRA Corporation where he served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, heading up technology strategy management and directing CiDRA's strategic development and corporate partnering activities. Dr. Kersey has over 24 years experience in optical and fiber optic instrumentation systems research and product development. He has published extensively and holds over 50 patents in the area of sensors and instrumentation systems. Dr. Kersey holds a Ph.D. in spectroscopy from the University of Leeds, England.

Prior to joining Illumina, Mr. Douglas was the Vice President of Operations at POSDATA Inc., where he led the efforts to build an integrated network of service and technical support facilities. Prior to joining POSDATA, Mr. Douglas held positions at Acuson Computed Sonography and Plexus Computers where he managed the development and deployment of systems for production control and final assembly testing. Mr. Douglas also held various manufacturing and engineering positions at Spectra-Physics. Prior to joining Illumina, Fredrick served as Vice President of Global Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs for the Diagnostics Division of Bayer HealthCare, now Siemens Diagnostics. Under Fredrick's leadership, Bayer HealthCare's Diagnostics Division successfully obtained Premarket Approvals (PMA) for five automated infectious disease assays. Fredrick's previous role was Vice President of Quality Assurance for the Laboratory Testing Segment (LTS) of Bayer HealthCare. During his three years at LTS, Fredrick successfully managed 13 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspections, the majority of which concluded with no report of any observation or non-conformance. He also served as the lead representative in direct negotiations with the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), which resulted in shortened PMA review periods for hepatitis assays.
From 1992 to 2001 Fredrick held multiple positions at Bayer Diagnostics, most notably as Director of Regulatory Affairs. In this role, Fredrick was responsible for the global expansion of the Regulatory Affairs function. He also led pre-PMA meetings with both the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research and the CDRH related to Bayer's commercialization initiative for automated hepatitis and HIV assays. Prior to this role, Fredrick was Director of Business Development, where he played a key role in negotiating alliances with partners worldwide, and identified potential alliances that enhanced the performance of both the Chemistry and Immunodiagnostics Business Units for Bayer Healthcare.
Fredrick earned a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Greenville College and a M.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois.

Kirk D. Malloy, Ph.D., is our Vice President of Customer Solutions. Dr. Malloy joined Illumina in 2002 as Senior Director of Customer Solutions, and later added quality assurance to his responsibilities. Prior to Illumina, Dr. Malloy was Director of Technical Service and Implementation at Biosite, Inc., where he was responsible for technical support, branding, and provision of validation and compliance services for point-of-care diagnostics customers. Dr. Malloy worked previously at Qiagen, Inc. as Customer Operations Manager. Before Qiagen, he held various research and teaching positions at Northeastern University and Boston University. Matthew L. Posard joined Illumina in January 2006 as our Vice President of Marketing. He is responsible for all worldwide strategic and tactical marketing for Illumina. Mr. Posard has more than thirteen years of marketing, sales and service experience in the healthcare field, with particular expertise in the diagnostics industry. Most recently, he spent over six years in various sales and marketing director positions at Biosite Inc., a San Diego-based developer and provider of diagnostic tests and solutions. While at Biosite, Mr. Posard oversaw the commercialization of several novel products including the successful BNP (B-type natriuretic peptide) heart failure diagnostic test now used in over 50% of U.S. hospitals. Prior to Biosite, Posard held various marketing positions at Gen-Probe, Inc. managing strategic marketing, new product planning, market research, project management, customer service and sales administration. Posard received his B.A. degree in quantitative economics and decision science from the University of California, San Diego.

Mike earned a B.C. from the University of Ottawa, Ontario, and received his MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. Mike also qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and began his career at Deloitte & Touche working on a variety of audits for large corporations in the manufacturing, banking, investment and captive insurance industries, as well as retail and wholesale companies.
In his new position as Illumina's Vice President of Finance, Mike is responsible for overseeing Illumina's worldwide finance, accounting, treasury and tax functions.

John West is Senior Vice President and General Manager for Illumina's DNA Sequencing business. Mr. West joined Illumina from Solexa, where he was Chief Executive Officer. Before Solexa, he was Vice President of DNA Platforms for Applied Biosystems, Inc. (AB), and was responsible for the company's instrument and reagent products for DNA sequencing, gene expression, genotyping, PCR, and DNA synthesis. His group developed and launched the instruments that now populate virtually all genome sequencing centers worldwide. He also had business responsibility for AB's first gene expression array system, real-time PCR instruments, and for its microfluidic PCR products. Previously, Mr. West held a number of senior positions, including President of Princeton Instruments, Inc., President and Founder of BioAutomation Inc., and Marketing Director for Microfluidics at Microcosm Technologies, Inc. During Mr. West's term at Princeton Instruments, the Company introduced the first low light imaging system for single molecule fluorescence. Solexa - at that time a startup - bought one of the first units. Mr. West received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in engineering from MIT, and a master of business administration in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
