Bill Joy, longtime KP Limited Partner, joined KPCB as Partner in January 2005. At KP he helps entrepreneurs advance the Internet, develop wireless innovations, and find new ways of using large scale computing to solve the most difficult problems. He also looks to help entrepreneurs who have discoveries and inventions that can solve energy and resource problems, and helps them apply 21st century advances in physics, chemistry and the natural sciences to help create abundance. Bill Joy was Chief Scientist of Sun Microsystems. He led Sun's technical strategy from the founding of the company in 1982 until September, 2003. While at Sun, Bill was a key designer of Sun technologies, including Solaris, SPARC, chip architectures and pipelines, and Java. In 1995 he installed the first city-wide WiFi network. Bill has more than 40 patents issued or in progress. Before co-founding Sun, Bill designed and wrote Berkeley UNIX, the first open source operating system with built-in TCP/IP, making it the backbone of the Internet. Bill's many contributions were recognized in a Fortune cover story which called him the "Edison of the Internet." Bill has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Engineering, honoris causa, from the University of Michigan. Bill is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and is a trustee of the Aspen Institute.

Brook Byers has been closely involved with more than forty new technology based ventures, including being founding President, and later Chairman, of four biotechnology companies which went on to be public companies with an aggregate market value over $8 billion. He formed the first Life Sciences practice group in the venture capital profession in 1984 and led KPCB to become a premier venture capital firm in the medical, healthcare, and biotechnology sectors. He is currently on the Board of Directors of CardioDx, GenomicHealth, OptiMedica, Pacific Biosciences, Inc. and XDx, Inc. He was formerly a Director of Idec Pharmaceuticals (Chairman), Athena Neurosciences (Chairman), Signal Pharmaceuticals, Arris Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacopeia, Ligand Pharmaceuticals (Chairman), Hybritech (Chairman), Genprobe, Nanogen, and others. He is currently a Board member of the University of California at San Francisco Medical Foundation, the California Healthcare Institute, the New Schools Foundation, Stanford's Bio-X Advisory Council, the Stanford Eye Council and TechNet. Mr. Byers graduated in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and received an M.B.A. from Stanford.

Michael McManus, Jr. became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company in November 1999. From November 1991 to March 1999, Mr. McManus was President and Chief Executive Officer of New York Bancorp, Inc. Prior to New York Bancorp, Inc., Mr. McManus held senior positions with Jamcor Pharmaceutical, Inc., Pfizer, Inc. and Revlon Corp. Mr. McManus also spent several years as an Assistant to President Reagan. Mr. McManus serves on the Board of Directors of the following publicly traded companies: American Home Mortgage Holdings, Inc.; Liquid Audio, Inc.; Novavax, Inc.; and NWH, Inc. Mr. McManus holds a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
