From August 2005 until his appointment as Cosi’s President and Chief Executive Officer, James Hyatt served as Executive Vice President & Global Chief Operations Officer of Burger King Corporation. He has over 30 years of restaurant industry experience in both corporate and franchise restaurant operations, including several years as a successful franchisee at Burger King.
Between 1979 and 1995, prior to his becoming a franchisee, Hyatt had senior operating responsibilities at Burger King Corporation, including 500 company and franchised Burger King locations in the Gulf States. At Hardees, Hyatt had senior operating responsibilities for increasingly larger territories including the 1400-unit Southeast Division.
After 1995, he became a Burger King franchisee and quickly established himself as a successful multi-unit operator in the Atlanta market and was elected by the franchisees to lead various committees and initiatives for the benefit of the system-wide franchise association.
Recruited to join Burger King’s corporate operations in 2002 and until his appointment to Chief Operations Officer in 2005, his increasing responsibilities with Burger King included Senior Vice President, Operations Services and Programs; Senior Vice President, U.S. Franchise Operations; and Executive Vice President, U.S. Franchise Operations.

William Koziel was appointed CFO in August 2005 after previously serving as Cosi’s Controller since August 2004. Prior to joining Cosi in 2004, Koziel was Corporate Controller of Galyan's Trading Company, Inc., a $750 million sporting goods retailer with 47 stores in 21 states, from 2002 until 2004. From 1999 until 2002, he was Corporate Controller and a member of the Senior Executive team of Homelife Furniture Corporation, a $650 million retailer with 133 stores and 9 distribution centers in 28 states. Koziel served as CFO of Evans, Inc., a $115 million NASDAQ-traded specialty retailer, from 1995 until 1998. He received a Masters of Business Administration and Bachelors of Science degrees from DePaul University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Robert Merritt was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cosi, Inc. on November 4, 2008, and he joined the Company’s Board of Directors in October 2005. From March 12, 2007 to September 15, 208, he served as the Company’s Interim CEO and President, while continuing to serve as a director of the Company.
Merritt has 24 years of experience in the restaurant and food industry having served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of three publicly traded companies. After beginning his career in 1975 as an auditor with the CPA firm of Price Waterhouse & Co., he spent four years each as the CFO of JB’s Restaurants and Vie de France Corporation, overseeing the initial public offering (IPO) of the latter.
Recently retired after 16 years at Outback Steakhouse, Inc. (“Outback”), Merritt was the CFO, Senior Vice President of Finance and Treasurer. Outback is a New York Stock Exchange Listed company with approximately a $3 billion market capitalization. He joined the company in 1989, managed the IPO and two secondary equity offerings from 1991-1992 and helped steward the growth of the Company from five restaurants in 1990 to over 1250 today. In 2005, he was named by Institutional Investor as the best CFO in the restaurant industry. Merritt has served on the boards of numerous for-profit and not-for-profit organizations including Outback Steakhouse, Inc., and each of its operating subsidiaries and joint ventures. He was also the past Chairman of the Board of the Association of Publicly Traded Companies, the Florida Orchestra and the Lowery Park Zoo in Tampa.

Edna Morris is president of Blue Coral Seafood & Spirits, a new upscale seafood restaurant concept scheduled to debut this summer in Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California. Most recently, Ms. Morris served as president of the James Beard Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1986 to keep alive the philosophy, ideals and practices that earned the late James Beard his reputation as the father of American gastronomy. Prior to that, Ms. Morris was with Darden Restaurants for five years where she served as president of Red Lobster. Prior to that she was executive vice president/operations of Red Lobster.
