Credit Agricole grew from the ground up into a diversified financial services firm. Credit Agricole S.A. (Pink Sheets: CRARF) was founded in 1894 and is headquartered in Paris, France. The company is France's largest bank, offering banking, lending, and deposits at over 9,000 locations in the country. It owns 25% shares of 40 regional banks that act as intermediaries between it and local banks. The company has annual revenue of about A14 billion and employs about 135,500 people. In February 2006, the company's corporate and investment bank, Calyon, acquired 100% of the share capital of Omicron Invest Management GmbH, a fully licensed CDM management company based in Vienna, Austria.

Edouard Esparbes is Calyon's Chief Executive Officer. He has also been Deputy Chief Executive of Credit Agricole S.A. since 1 January 2004, and was Chief Executive Officer of Paris - Ile-de-France Regional Bank from October 1993 until December 2003. Mr Esparbes was born in 1944, and has a degree in physical sciences and a masters in IT.
