Joseph Gaffney, MD, has been appointed chief of anesthesiology. A member of the hospital's medical staff since 1992, Dr. Gaffney is a partner in CNY Anesthesia Group, PC and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain management. Dr. Gaffney received his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. He resides in Skaneateles.

Timothy Izant, MD, has been appointed chief of orthopedics. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Izant is a partner in Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists, PC. He is a member of the Crouse Health Foundation board of trustees and also serves on numerous hospital committees. Dr. Izant completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and his fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University, both in Philadelphia. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Izant is a resident of Manlius.

John Cucinotta, MD, was elected president following a two-year term as vice president of the hospital s medical staff. He is a radiologist with Crouse Radiologist Associates, as well as a clinical assistant professor of radiology at the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and secretary of the Crouse Health Foundation. A resident of Manlius, Dr. Cucinotta has 17 years experience in the field of radiology. He received a bachelor s degree from Syracuse University in 1973 and his doctorate of medicine from the SUNY Health Science Center in 1977. Dr. Cucinotta residencies in St. Joseph s Hospital and University Hospital. He is a past president and has been a member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Board of Education since 1990.

Louis Green, MD, has been appointed vice president of the medical staff. A Diplomate of the American Board of Medicine, Dr. Green is a partner in Internist Associates of CNY, PC. He has served on the medical staff of Crouse Hospital since 1980 and most recently was secretary/treasurer of the medical staff. Dr. Green is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a clinical professor of medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia. Dr. Green is a resident of DeWitt.

Michael Sipple, MD, has been named secretary/treasurer of the medical staff. A board-certified gastroenterologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Sipple is a partner in Syracuse Gastroenterological Associates, PC. A member of the medical staff of Crouse Hospital since 1991, he received his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. Dr. Sipple resides in Fayetteville.

In 1985, nearly a decade after competing on the cross country and track teams, Gerry Mahon returned to his alma mater as the women's cross country coach. He was named head men's coach 1996 and has guided both cross country teams ever since. In his inaugural season coaching the men, Mahon guided them to the conference championship. His work was honored by his peers as he was named the league's coach of the year that season. Mahon has spent countless hours in planning, preparation and execution as the director of Le Moyne's annual invitational and helped bring thousands of local high school runners to campus for similar events. Mahon's charges have garnered recognition both in competition and in the classroom. Ten consecutive times, his women's teams have earned All-America academic team recognition and the men's team has been honored seven times. Runners of both genders have consistently ranked among the top in the league and in the region under Mahon's guidance. A 1976 Le Moyne College graduate with a degree in sociology, Mahon works as a recreational therapist at Crouse Hospital. He works in the chemical dependency services program. Mahon resides in Manlius with his wife Beth and their son, Mike.
