Previously, Dr. Barold worked as a Medical Officer for the Food and Drug Administration, in the office of device evaluation of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, and practiced in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She received her medical degree from the University of Rochester, completed her Internal Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and her Cardiology and Electrophysiology residency at Duke University.

Dave has served as a member of our board of directors since January 2002. He is currently a partner at Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company. Dave joined Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Company in February 1997. From 1995 to 1997, he worked in the Corporate Finance Department at Smith Barney in New York, specializing in public offerings and mergers and acquisitions for healthcare companies. Dave serves or has served on the board of directors of a number of public and private healthcare service, medical device and healthcare information technology companies. He received a B.S. degree in history from the University of Illinois and an M.P.P. in international finance from Georgetown University.

Rob Adelman, M.D., Private Equity Partner. Dr. Adelman joined OrbiMed in 2002 to focus on private equity investments and structured transactions of small-capitalization public equity companies. Prior to joining OrbiMed, Dr. Adelman was Vice President of Business Development at NeoGenesis Pharmaceuticals. Prior to his tenure with NeoGenesis, he was a founder of Veritas Medicine. He was also a co-founder of Operon Technology, one of the largest commercial producers of synthetic DNA in the world. He trained as an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell University. As a practicing orthopedic surgeon, he was involved with major implant manufacturers on hip and knee replacement design. Dr. Adelman received his B.A. with the highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley and his M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Adelman serves on the Boards of Volcano Corporation, CryoCor Inc, Sientra Inc., Aryx Inc, Innovative Spinal Technologies Inc, and Cerimon Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Bob Ulrich is a Managing Director investing in the Life Sciences sector at Vanguard. Bob is a seasoned veteran of both the health care industry and venture capital community, earning prominence as a technologist, operating executive, CEO, entrepreneur and venture capital investor. Prior to joining Vanguard Ventures, Bob was co-founder and President of VanMed, a Vanguard sponsored business incubator specialized in seed stage medical opportunities. He played an active role in several VanMed companies, serving as CEO of five and a Board of Directors member of seven. Bob was President and CEO of Menlo Care, Inc., a spinout of Raychem, which was later acquired by Johnson & Johnson. He served as President and CEO of MedVest, Inc., a medical incubator, responsible for analyzing the business and technology aspects of products for investment and acquisition. Bob's career in the medical industry began at General Electric and continued at Johnson & Johnson where he was Director of New Technologies. In this capacity he directed U.S. and international medical products business development, investments and acquisitions for therapeutic and diagnostic devices and pharmaceuticals. His most notable acquisition was that of the Schatz-Palmaz coronary stent, which has become one of the most successful medical devices in history. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Claremont McKenna College, and a Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Bob is a member of the Board of Directors for HemoSense, Peptimmune, Percardia, TissueLink and Vesalius Ventures. He is an observer on the Board of Directors for CryoCor, BioSeek, and Sontra.
