Dr. Louis Lange is a founder of CV Therapeutics and has served as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since August 1992. From 1980 to 1992, Dr. Lange served on the faculty of the Washington University School of Medicine, including a position as Chief of Cardiology at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, from 1985 to 1992, and as a full Professor of Medicine from 1990 until 1992. Dr. Lange is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. He is currently on the Board of Trustees at the University of Rochester. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), as well as the BIO Board of Directors, and he is chair of the Emerging Companies Governing Section. Dr. Lange holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in biochemistry from Harvard University.

Ms. Carol Karp is Senior Vice President for Regulatory Affairs, Quality, and Drug Safety at CV Therapeutics. She has over 25 years of experience in regulatory affairs, project management, compliance, and quality assurance in the pharmaceutical industry. Before joining CV Therapeutics, she was Vice President of Scientific Affairs at PowderJect Technologies. Ms. Karp has held previous positions as a corporate officer at VIVUS, Inc. and established the regulatory affairs function at Cygnus, Inc., a transdermal drug delivery company, where she was the project leader for EVRA , the first oral contraceptive patch co-developed with Johnson & Johnson. Ms. Karp began her career in regulatory affairs at Janssen Pharmaceutica, a Johnson & Johnson company, where she managed the approval process for several new drug applications. Ms. Karp received her bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Rochester and pursued graduate studies at New York University.
Mr. David McCaleb is the Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations. He joined CV Therapeutics in 1999 with 18 years of experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical sales and marketing. From 1994 to 1999, in addition to consulting for CV Therapeutics, he served as senior marketing advisor to a number of other leading biotechnology companies, including Coulter Pharmaceutical, Gilead Sciences, and Cephalon. Before his consulting career, Mr. McCaleb was Director of Marketing at Amgen where he was responsible for the launch of Neupogen . During his six-year tenure at Amgen, he was instrumental in building Amgen's worldwide sales and marketing organization. He began his pharmaceutical career at Merck where he held various sales and marketing positions with responsibility for several products, including Mevacor and Prinivil . Mr. McCaleb also launched Merck's billion dollar pharmaceutical product, the ACE inhibitor Vasotec . Mr. McCaleb received both his MBA and his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University. He also holds a master's degree in biology from Marquette University.
Dr. Anders Waas is the Vice President of Business Development at CV Therapeutics. He joined CV Therapeutics in 2004 with over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. From 1992 to 2004, he held a variety of senior development, strategic marketing, and business development positions at Astra and AstraZeneca. Most recently, after the merger of Astra and Zeneca, he was Director of Global Licensing, in charge of Cardiovascular Global Licensing activities. Before moving into a dedicated business development role, Dr. Waas was the head and Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development for cardiovascular, metabolic, and gastrointestinal products at Astra, responsible for global strategic support for products such as Losec, Nexium, Toprol XL, Atacand, and Exanta and the overall R&D effort in the cardiovascular, metabolic, and gastrointestinal areas. Dr. Waas also gained experience in the device industry as a European sales leader and medical advisor at WL Gore & Associates. Dr. Waas received his DDS from the University of Umea in Sweden.
Mr. Lewis Stuart is Vice President of Sales. He joined CV Therapeutics in 2003 with more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience. Mr. Stuart served for six years as Vice President of Sales at Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a Pfizer company. There, he fielded an HIV sales organization to launch Agouron's lead product, Viracept , which was the most widely prescribed protease inhibitor in the United States. Mr. Stuart also directed the sales teams for several cardiovascular products at Bristol Myers Squibb, Inc., including Capoten , an ACE inhibitor prescribed to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, and Corgard , a beta-blocker prescribed to treat angina and high blood pressure. Mr. Stuart holds a BA in marketing communications from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.

Sandy Costa became affiliated with Maupin Taylor after many years of experience in executive and senior operating management roles for a major international business service provider, and senior counsel and senior executive roles for a major international pharmaceutical company both during periods of explosive growth. Firm clients benefit from his diversity in not only transactional but also regulatory and legal matters pertaining to the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. Sandy joined Quintiles Transnational Corporation as President and Chief Operating Officer in April 1994 at the time of its initial public offering. He was named Vice Chairman in 1999 and retired from the Board in June 2001. As President and COO, Mr. Costa had responsibility for all operating divisions, as well as worldwide business development. In his tenure as President, the company was transformed from a contract research organization to a fully integrated worldwide service company and the market leader in its industry. During his tenure, Quintiles' annual revenues rose from $90 million to $1.6 billion. Mr. Costa oversaw the successful integration of over 40 acquisitions ranging in value up to $1.7 billion. He also saw the company's employee base increase from 1,000 to 20,000. Prior to joining Quintiles, Mr. Costa spent 23 years in the pharmaceutical industry. He was Senior Vice President, Administration and General Counsel at Glaxo Inc., where he sat on the company's Board of Directors and was deeply involved in managing Glaxo's growth. Prior to joining Glaxo, Mr. Costa was U.S. area counsel for Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Costa started his career as food and drug counsel for Norwich/Easton Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Costa sits on the Board of Directors of NPS Pharmaceuticals, CV Therapeutics, Digiscripts and Constella Group, and is Chairman of NeuroMedix and Labopharm, Inc. He also sits on the Board of Advisors of the North Carolina Outward Bound School, the Duke Brain Tumor Advisory Committee, the Duke University Medical Center Board of Visitors and the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program Board. Mr. Costa is an Adjunct Professor in the clinical research program at the Campbell University School of Pharmacy.
Santo J. Costa has been Of Counsel at the law firm Maupin Taylor, P.A. since June 2001. Prior to joining Maupin Taylor, Mr. Costa served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Quintiles Transnational Corporation from April 1994 to November 1999. He served as Vice Chairman of Quintiles from December 1999 to May 2001. As President and Chief Operating Officer of Quintiles, Mr. Costa had responsibility for all operating divisions, as well as worldwide business development. Prior to joining Quintiles, Mr. Costa spent 23 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Costa served as Senior Vice President, Administration and General Counsel of Glaxo Inc. from 1986 to 1993. Prior to joining Glaxo, Mr. Costa was U.S. area counsel for Merrell Dow from 1977 to 1986. Mr. Costa sits on the board of directors of four publicly-traded companies, NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., CV Therapeutics Inc., Labopharm Inc., and NeuroMedix Inc. (of which he is Chairman of the board), and two privately-held companies, DigiScripts, Inc. and Constella Group, Inc. From January 1995 to August 1996, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of CV Therapeutics. From 1989 to 1994, he was Executive Vice President at Syntex Corporation and a member of the Pharmaceutical Executive Committee. His responsibilities while at Syntex included managing Syva Company, Syntex Agribusiness, Pharmaceutical and Chemical Operations and Services, Syntex Pharmaceutical Intl. Ltd. and Environmental Health and Safety. Mr. Gutshall currently serves as a director of CV Therapeutics, Metrika, Inc. and Satoris Corporation.
