Steve Victorino has 20 years of experience in building start-ups into successful software and new media companies. Victorino has been active in venture capital since 1998, managing Black Diamond Capital, an early stage venture fund. He has worked with and invested in many successful start-ups, including When.com, which was acquired by AOL, Looksmart, which went public, FirstUp.com, which was acquired by CMGI, JustOn, which was acquired by Novell, and Direct Hit, which was acquired by Ask Jeeves. Victorino was the lead investor in There's first external financing in early 2000. Two years later, he joined There's executive management team as the Vice President of Business Development. In this role, he crafted all of There's business relationships including distribution partnerships with ATI, Discreet, Hewlett-Packard, iVillage and Plantronics, as well as its marketing partnerships with Levi Strauss and Nike. In the fall of 2003, Victorino was named Acting CEO. In his last operating role, Victorino was the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development at Four11, an Internet services startup known for its people directory and its free email service, Rocketmail. Victorino built a broad distribution channel, crafting deals with the most prominent players in the industry including Yahoo, Infoseek, WebTV and all regional Bell operating companies. Victorino also crafted the deal that led to Yahoo's acquisition of Four11 in late 1997. Some of Victorino's early successes include sales, marketing and business development efforts at The Santa Cruz Operation, Retix and Worldtalk. Steve graduated from Stanford University as a National Science Foundation Fellow with a Masters Degree in Engineering Management and a Bachelors Degree with honors in Mechanical Engineering.
