Dow Jones Description
Founded in 1893 and already one of the largest art museums between Chicago and the West Coast, the Denver Art Museum nearly doubled its gallery space when the Frederic C. Hamilton Building opened on October 7, 2006. Designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the Hamilton Building consists of geometric shards flaring out like titanium flower petals. The Hamilton Building houses the Museum?s modern and contemporary, Western, African and Oceanic collections as well as three traveling exhibition galleries. The Museum's original striking North Building was designed by Gio Ponti of Italy. Its galleries showcase some of the Museum?s 68,000+ works of art from around the world, including European, American and Western painting, sculpture and design, textile art, and a world-famous American Indian art collection. The Museum's collections of pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art, Asian, and architecture, graphics and design are also very fine. Nationally recognized as a family-friendly place, the Denver Art Museum offers a variety of innovative and interactive programs, including the Just For Fun Family Center, Hotspots, family backpacks, the Kids Corner, art tubes and more. Mission statement: The Denver Art Museum (DAM) is a private, non-profit, educational resource for Colorado. The mission of the museum is to enrich the lives of Colorado and Rocky Mountain residents through the acquisition, preservation, and presentation of art works in both the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, and by supporting these works with exemplary educational and scholarly programs.

The hills are alive: with the opening of the Denver Art Museum's new building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, Denver has staked its claim in the contemporary art world. Boulder and Aspen add to the mix
Quirky. That's the most common adjective I heard in Denver to describe the Denver Art Museum's exuberant new Daniel Libeskind-designed addition. Kind-hearted residents prefer "quirky" to other adjectives the critically panned building has received. Despite their trepidation, it's virtually impossible to find a person who doesn't recognize the impact the...
