Dr. Chaudry has overall responsibility for pharmaceutical development, analytical research, clinical development, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, drug safety and project management. Dr. Chaudry has more than 25 years of experience in drug research and development with special emphasis on drug delivery. He joined DEY in 1999. Prior to coming to the company, Dr. Chaudry was Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development at Schering-Plough Research Institute, where he worked for over two decades. At Schering-Plough he led development teams and task forces that created a number of important healthcare products, including a dry powder inhaler and a long-acting Interferon dosage form for hepatitis. At DEY, Dr. Chaudry is heading the research group charged with developing new drug compounds for the company's future branded product line. In the short term, according to Dr. Chaudry, DEY will license new compounds, but in the long term the company will fund discovery research efforts through collaborations with academia and outside research companies. In 2001, Dr. Chaudry filed DEY's first four patents. In October 2003, Dr. Chaudry received from USPTO a patent for Duoneb , a combination of beta 2 adrenergic bronchodilator and cholinergic bronchodilator for nebulization. DuoNeb is indicated for the treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD in patients requiring more than one bronchodilator. This represents the first issued patent for DEY and is of significant value in providing a patient friendly and compliant drug delivery system for COPD. In December 2003, Dr. Chaudry received a patent for a novel formulation of formoterol for nebulization. USPTO has also allowed an additional patent, which is expected to be issued in early 2004. It covers an important product for DEY. Dr. Chaudry has filed six additional patent applications covering new products under development. "Enhancement of innovation is our goal and we are aggressively working to establish a comprehensive intellectual property portfolio for DEY," says Dr. Chaudry. In addition, he holds more than 25 other patents in his name, including mometasone for asthma, a dry powder inhaler, Claratin D , and a solid dosage form of ribavirin for treatment of hepatitis. Dr. Chaudry has over 20 published scientific articles in journals. He served on the University of Kansas, Drug Delivery Center, Scientific Advisory Board, and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Controlled Release Society for Bioactive Materials. He is a member of the American Pharmaceutical Honor Society, Royal Society of Health and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals. He is also a CMC expert for EU regulatory submissions. Dr. Chaudry is a licensed pharmacist. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacy from St. Johns University, and his MS degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
