Nikon has its lenses trained onward and upward. Founded in 1917 and headquartered in Chiyoda-Ku, Tokyo, Japan, Nikon Corporation (OSA and TYO: 7731) makes a variety of optical and photographic products. The company manufactures cameras, lenses, consumer optical equipment, photolithography steppers, binoculars, microscopes, and more. Its products have been used in space missions, bio labs and optical medical offices. The company has annual revenue of about $5.9 billion and employs about 16,800 people. In 2005 the company completed its integration of ISO 14001 certification for the head office and all domestic plants. It has also implemented an environment-friendly management policy through a company-wide environmental management system (EMS), designing the structure to effectively and efficiently undertake EMS activities company-wide.

Scott Frier has been involved in professional photography for more than 35 years. His assignments have taken him to over 70 countries, and he has taught at many schools and colleges. As chief expedition photographer of the Cousteau Society, he accompanied Jacques and Jean-Michel Cousteau on expeditions to the Gulf of Labrador, the South Pacific, the Caribbean, and the Amazon. Currently Scott is a technical specialist in digital imaging at Nikon, Inc., writing and lecturing on digital photography and photographing his favorite subjects of wildlife and nature. His images and articles have appeared in numerous magazines and books in the U.S. and abroad. This is Scott's fourth year teaching for The Workshops.
