Mr. R. Patrick Simms has served as the Company's Senior Vice President, Operations since October 1998. He served as the Company's Vice President, Process Engineering and Manufacturing from February 1997 to October 1998. Mr. Simms served as Senior Vice President, Business Development and Manufacturing, at Biosys, Inc., an agricultural biotechnology company focusing on natural insecticide products, from March 1990 to February 1997. From December 1984 to March 1990, Mr. Simms served as Vice President, Commercial Operations, at Genencor International, Inc., a biotechnology company focusing on industrial enzymes. Prior to joining Genencor, Mr. Simms spent 18 years with A.E. Staley in a wide range of technical and operational positions. Mr. Simms received a B.S. from West Virginia University.

Paul is currently on the startup team of an international, sugar-cane based ethanol company. Prior to that, he was Senior Director of Business Development at Diversa, where his responsibilities included business and strategic oversight of programs for development of renewable transportation fuels from crop biomass; management of several 3rd party collaborations and direction of the business and policy aspects of the grants program for industrial and bio-defense platforms. Prior to Diversa, he was Senior Vice President of Operations at CellFor Corporation, a forest biotechnology company. Paul was Chief Scientist, Global Biotechnology Platform at Dow Chemical Company, and Vice-President, Product Development, at Mycogen, and agricultural biotechnology company. Paul is a founder and former Director of Farmacule (Queensland, Australia - biopharmaceuticals and crop trait development) and a founder and partner of KAS, LLC (Hawaii - fine chemicals, therapeutic proteins and alternative energy from aquatic organisms). He also serves on the North American Biotechnology Business Advisory Council for the Queensland, Australia Government and on the Board of South Carolina's Biotech Business Council. He is a member of the steering committee for California's Secure Transportation Energy Partnership (CalSTEP) and a member of the National Resource Defense Council's Environmental Entrepreneurs Cellulose-to-Fuel working group. Paul serves as Adjunct Professor of Horticulture and a member of the graduate faculty at North Carolina State University and also serves as Adjunct Professor of Genetics and Biochemistry as well as a Senior Science Fellow at Clemson University's Institute for Nutraceutical Research. Paul is a Fellow of the Weed Science Society of America. He is an inventor on over 30 issued US patents. He was recently honored as a Queensland Champion by the Queensland, Australia Government (the first American citizen to be so honored). He received his undergraduate degree from Lewis and Clark College (1976- Ecology and Secondary Education) and his Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Pathology from Colorado State University (1980) where he worked on development of cropping systems for dry-land agriculture.

James Cavanaugh has been a Managing Director of HealthCare Ventures since 1988. He was previously president of SmithKline & French Laboratories U.S., the domestic pharmaceutical division of SmithKline Beckman Corporation. He had been president of SmithKline Beckman's clinical laboratory business and president of Allergan International. Earlier Dr. Cavanaugh served in numerous senior posts with the U.S. Government on the White House staff and before that at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to that he was a member of the faculty of the College of Medicine and the Graduate College at the University of Iowa. Dr. Cavanaugh received his Master's and Doctorate degrees from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Fernand Kaufmann, 63, has been a director since 2004. Dr. Kaufmann retired from The Dow Chemical Company, a public chemical manufacturing company, in 2001. During his over 30-year career at Dow, Dr. Kaufmann served in a number of senior executive capacities, including Group Vice-President for New Businesses and as a member of Dow's management executive committee. Dr. Kaufmann currently serves as chief executive officer and chairman of the board of HPL SA, a Swiss technology start-up company in the field of novel lithium-ion battery technology. Dr. Kaufmann received a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from the University of Strasbourg in France in 1969.

Mark Leschly is managing partner of Rho Ventures and serves on the investment committees of Rho Fund Investors and Rho Private Equity. Prior to joining Rho in 1999, Leschly spent five years in venture capital at Healthcare Ventures where he was a general partner. Previously, he held a management consulting position at McKinsey & Company. Leschly received his masters in business administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and his current and recent board seats include: Anacor, Diversa (Nasdaq: DVSA), Inotek, Memory Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: MEMY), MPV, NitroMed (Nasdaq: NTMD), Orametrix, Orqis, Senomyx (Nasdaq: SNMX), SiTV, Tercica (Nasdaq: TRCA) and Vicuron (Nasdaq: MICU).

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Melvin Simon is Co-Chairman of Simon Property Group, Inc. Simon Property Group, Inc. is the largest publicly traded retail real estate company in North America. Mr. Simon also serves as Co-Chairman of the Board of Melvin Simon & Associates, Inc., which until the 1993 formation of Simon Property Group was the nation's second-largest developer and manager of shopping centers. Mr. Simon attended the Bronx High School of Science and the City College of New York, where he earned a B.S. degree in accounting and an M.B.A. with an emphasis on real estate. He came to Indiana while serving in the United States Army, when a transfer brought him to Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. Following his discharge from the Army, and prior to creating Melvin Simon & Associates in 1960 with brothers Herbert and Fred, Mr. Simon worked as a leasing representative with the Albert Frankel Company, an Indianapolis developer of strip shopping centers. Mr. Simon's diversified business interests include co-ownership with brother Herbert of the National Basketball Association's Indiana Pacers. Mr. Simon is a Trustee of both the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He holds board memberships with numerous community and civic organizations, and has received many awards and honors for his involvement.

Mr. Peter Johnson, 60, has been a director since 1999. Mr. Johnson was a founder of Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and served as its president and chief executive officer from its inception in 1984 until 2000. Mr. Johnson currently serves as a director of a non-profit organization. Mr. Johnson received a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of California.
