Brett Carter is president of Duke Energy Carolinas. He leads Duke Energy’s utility business in North Carolina and South Carolina, serving approximately 2.4 million customers in a 24,000-square-mile service area. He was named to his current position in 2008. Most recently, Carter served as senior vice president of customer service and business development for Duke Energy. He was responsible for acquiring and retaining new wholesale customers; providing sales and services to the company’s existing large commercial and industrial customers; and generating and cultivating economic development opportunities. Jim Stanley is president of Duke Energy Indiana. He leads the Indiana utility business, Indiana’s largest electric supplier, providing electric service to approximately 775,000 customers in 69 of Indiana’s 92 counties. Most recently, Stanley served as vice president of field operations – Midwest for Duke Energy. He was responsible for transmission and distribution and maintenance, substation construction and maintenance, premise services, customer service engineering, and electric outage response for the Duke Energy Midwest service area. A 30-year career with PSI Energy, Cinergy and Duke Energy includes assignments in a variety of departments from accounting to human resources to field management. Julie Janson is president of Duke Energy Ohio and Duke Energy Kentucky. She leads Duke Energy's Ohio and Kentucky operations, serving approximately 690,000 customers in southwest Ohio and approximately 135,000 customers in six northern Kentucky counties. She was named to her current position in December 2008. Keith Trent is group executive and president of the Commercial Businesses organization for Duke Energy. Before becoming a public relations professional, Roche worked as a reporter for 10 years with The Associated Press and The Charlotte News. A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Roche graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. Dhiaa Jamil is group executive and chief nuclear officer for Duke Energy. Jamil received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina. He has completed the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations’ (INPO) senior nuclear plant management course and received Duke Energy’s technical nuclear certification. He has served as a senior member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has completed a three-year assignment as a member of the Council of the National Academy for Nuclear Training. He is a former member of Dominion Energy Management Safety Review Advisory Committee, TVA Nuclear Safety Review Board and Pacific Gas & Electric Nuclear Safety Oversight Committee. He also served on the board of directors of the York County, S.C., Chamber of Commerce. Marc Manly is a group executive, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Duke Energy. Raiford Smith is Director of Product Development for Duke Energy. He is responsible for leading the creation and implementation of energy-related products for all customer segments across Duke Energy's electric and gas retail franchises in Ohio , Kentucky , Indiana , North Carolina , and South Carolina . Additionally, he is responsible for developing energy efficiency strategy and optimizing Duke's product portfolio. During his sixteen year career in the energy industry, he has worked in both regulated retail and unregulated wholesale electric utility and natural gas industries in various roles. His experience includes positions in customer management, energy efficiency, pricing/rates, wholesale deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Georgia and a Masters of Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia . Additionally, he is a certified Six Sigma green belt, a winner of the 2006 Southeastern Electric Exchange Industry Excellence Award for Rates and Regulation Category, a board member of the Southeastern Energy Efficiency Alliance, and has published several papers on asset optimization and price forecasting.

Steve Adams is currently the manager of the Geospatial Services department at Duke Energy (Midwest). Steve Young is senior vice president and controller for Duke Energy. He is responsible for planning and directing the accounting affairs of the company, including preparation of financial statements and accounting and regulatory reports. Young joined Duke Power in 1980 as a financial assistant. After a series of promotions within the controller's department, he was named manager of bulk power agreements in system planning and operating in 1991, and manager of the rate department in 1993. He was also accountable for the company’s interaction with the utilities commissions of North Carolina and South Carolina and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He was named vice president and controller in June 2005. Young was named to his current position in December 2006. A native of Denver, Colo., Young earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Young is a certified public accountant and a certified managerial accountant in North Carolina. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Managerial Accountants and National Association of Accountants. He is a member of the Edison Electric Institute Accounting Executive Advisory Committee, Southeastern Electric Exchange Accounting and Finance Section, and Financial Executive Institute’s Committee on Corporate Reporting. Young was born in 1958. He and his wife, Lilly, have a daughter and a son.

Mr. Prenda brings 25 years of public, government relations, and lobbying experience to VSA. Mr. Prenda's strong and diverse legal background in legislative and regulatory procedures concerning our nation's energy supply represents an important expansion of VSA's client services. Mr. Prenda joins VSA after serving as Director for Federal Government Relations at Duke Energy Corporation, one of the largest U.S. energy corporations. His legislative and regulatory experience covers both Federal and state agencies. Mr. Prenda also brings strong, technical experience in developing public relations and environmental strategies for utility project reviews. His success in routing utility corridors through environmentally sensitive geographic areas ranges from the Canadian provinces to Cape Cod, Maine and New Hampshire, to Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida. In each case, energy supply issues were addressed while maintaining the region's environmental integrity. While in private law practice, Mr. Prenda served as legal counsel to The Pocasset Wampanoag Native American Tribe of Fall River, and he represented them in Massachusetts land claim disputes. Mr. Prenda was also involved in working with Las Vegas casino gaming corporations pursuing gaming ventures in Massachusetts. Mr. Prenda earned his Bachelor of Arts at Walsh University in Ohio, a Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk University, and his Juris Doctorate degree at Southern New England School of Law in Massachusetts. He is a member of both the Massachusetts and Federal Bars.
