Progressing through a variety of executive positions with Southern Bell, South Central Bell and AT&T, Mr. McCoy was named Chief Financial Officer-designate of BellSouth when the regional telecommunications company was formed in 1982. He was elected Vice Chairman of BellSouth Corp. in 1983 and President of BellSouth Enterprises Inc. in 1986. He is a board member of Progress Energy of Raleigh, NC and Liberty Corp. of Greenville, S.C. Also, Mr. McCoy is a member of the board of the Research Triangle Foundation, developer of the Research Triangle Park in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. He also serves as a Trustee of Fidelity Investments in Boston and the North Carolina Management Trust. He spent 15 years on the board of First American Corp., a bank holding company in Nashville. A staunch Carolina supporter, Mr. McCoy has served as Chairman of UNC's National Development Council and a member of the Bicentennial Campaign for Carolina Steering Committee and the Board of Visitors. He is a member of the Kenan-Flagler Business School's Board of Visitors and, since January, has served as a Director of the new UNC Health Care System. Mr. McCoy and his wife, Sara, have two adult daughters.
