Rich Boehne, 53, is The E.W. Scripps Company’s president and chief executive officer. He also is a member of the company’s board of directors. Scripps today includes local media businesses - broadcast television stations, newspapers, and news and information Internet sites - plus a national and international licensing and syndication unit. Prior to the separation of Scripps into two publicly traded companies, Boehne was chief operating officer of the combined enterprise. The company’s cable networks and specialty Internet search businesses were spun off July 1, 2008 into a new company – Scripps Networks Interactive. Rich joined the Scripps corporate staff in 1988, just prior to the parent company’s initial public offering. Before moving to Scripps headquarters, he was a business reporter and editor at The Cincinnati Post, a Scripps newspaper, where he covered Wall Street, the national economy, and developments in the media industry. He began his media career in high school selling subscriptions for The Cincinnati Post. A few years later, he landed a job as a part-time reporter for The Cincinnati Enquirer. He later graduated from college and joined a growing chain of community newspapers. He progressed through that company as the owner, Suburban Communications, purchased and consolidated a number of family-owned publications in the Midwest. The E.W. Scripps Company was preparing for its coming out party on Wall Street when Rich joined the corporate staff in early 1988 as manager of investor relations, a brand-new function in the 110-year-old enterprise. Scripps went public that summer and Rich was charged with building a base of public shareholders who would support the company's long-term mission and be good partners for the Scripps family. Several years later, Rich became director of all of the company's communication efforts. He also joined the company's long-range strategic planning and development group, and in May 1995 became a vice president of the corporation. In 1998, Rich co-founded the Scripps Leadership Institute, a bi-annual program that identifies and provides training for up-and-coming senior-level managers. He was elected executive vice president in February 1999 and named chief operating officer in April 2006. Rich received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Northern Kentucky University in 1981. In 1996, he received the university's annual Professional Achievement Award, and in 2001 was named the university's Outstanding Alumnus.

Denise Kuprionis, 52, is vice president, secretary and chief compliance & ethics officer for The E. W. Scripps Company. In 1987, Denise became the first woman elected as a Scripps officer. Denise joined Scripps in 1978 as secretary to the editor of The Kentucky Post. Since moving to the company’s corporate office in 1980, she has served in various positions. Denise attended college and law school in the evenings. She earned a bachelor of science in management and organizational behavior from Northern Kentucky University in 1985 and a juris doctor degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at NKU in 1994. Denise has been involved in many professional, civic, and philanthropic activities. Currently, she serves as vice-chair of the Board of Trustees of the College of Mount St. Joseph and recently chaired the college’s presidential search committee. Denise also serves as a member of the board of trustees of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC); is chair of CCHMC’s personnel and pension committee and member of its compensation, nominating/governance, education and executive committees. She is a member of United Way’s National Women’s Leadership Council. In 2007, the Cincinnati USA Chamber's WE Celebrate Business Awards honored Denise as "Woman of the Year - Corporate." Other honors include being named a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement in 1999; receiving Northern Kentucky University’s Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1998; and being recognized for her commitment to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky community at the 1996 National Philanthropy Day Annual Luncheon.

Bob Carson, 53, is vice president and chief information officer for The E. W. Scripps Company. Prior to overseeing the company’s corporate information technology (IT), Bob served as the executive director of enterprise information systems, responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s business systems and back-office applications. During his 18 years with the company, Bob has held several IT leadership positions in project management, planning and analysis, applications management and architecture. Bob began his professional career as a computer operator and programmer. He has more than 30 years of broad experience in the IT field, working for several Fortune 1000 consulting firms and corporations. Bob received a degree in information systems from the University of Cincinnati.

Tim Stautberg, 46, is senior vice president and chief financial officer. He oversees the company’s accounting, treasury, tax, risk management, investor relations, and information technology functions. Prior to assuming his current role, Tim was vice president of corporate communications and investor relations. Tim joined Scripps in 1990 as part of the company’s executive development program. In 1992, he joined the Denver Rocky Mountain News, where he held various management positions before being named assistant to the publisher. Tim was named general manager of the Redding, Calif. Record Searchlight in 1997. In 1999, he returned to Cincinnati to become vice president of corporate communications and investor relations for Scripps. Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Kenyon College and a master’s degree in business administration, with a specialization in finance, from The University of Chicago. While earning his MBA, he worked 5 years as a commercial banking officer for Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago. Tim’s current community involvement includes serving as president of Cincinnati’s May Festival Association board of trustees; treasurer for the Beech Acres Parenting Center board of trustees; and trustee for the Center for Economic Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati.

Dave Giles, 48, is vice president and deputy general counsel of The E. W. Scripps Company. Dave provides counseling and advice to the corporate office and the newspaper and broadcast divisions, including matters involving the First Amendment, the FCC, the FTC, litigation, intellectual property, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, and antitrust. In 2004, Dave joined Scripps as associate general counsel. Before joining Scripps, Dave was a litigation attorney at Baker Hostetler in Denver and Washington, D.C. Dave began his professional career as a newspaper reporter, covering business and community issues for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1986-89 and as a reporter on the states desk at USA Today from 1983-84. Dave holds a bachelor's degree in Government from St. Lawrence University, a master’s degree in journalism from The University of Kansas, and a juris doctor degree from Washington & Lee University. Dave is an active volunteer in Cincinnati, currently service on the committee of Introducing Cincinnati USA, a Cincinnati USA Chamber of Commerce group focused on assisting newcomers to the area, and is a board member of the Contemporary Dance Theater.

Doug Lyons, 52, is vice president and controller of The E. W. Scripps Company. Prior to accepting his new role, Doug had served as vice president of finance and administration for Interactive Media since 2006. In this capacity, he worked with the finance teams at Shopzilla and uSwitch. Doug joined Scripps in 1985 as assistant controller and became director of financial reporting in 1995. Prior to joining Scripps, Doug was an audit manager for Deloitte. Doug graduated from the University of Dayton with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He is a certified public accountant in the state of Ohio.

E. John Wolfzorn, 63, was named treasurer in 1979 and was named a corporate vice president in 2002. He joined the company in 1973 as a financial analyst and was promoted to assistant treasurer in 1975. In his current role, he is responsible for managing the debt portfolio (including commercial paper), as well as the cash management and risk management functions. Prior to joining Scripps, he was with the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche. John is a member of Financial Executives International where he previously served as President of the Cincinnati chapter and a director. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Wolfzorn received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Thomas More College in 1966.

Lisa Knutson, 43, is senior vice president of human resources for The E. W. Scripps Company. Prior to assuming this position, Lisa served as vice president of human resource operations, where she focused on strategic, long-range planning for HR operations and field resources. Before joining Scripps in 2005, Lisa was a vice president at Fifth Third Bank, where she oversaw HR operations, which included employee administrative services, Six Sigma project management, HR risk management, compliance, and HR finance and reporting. Lisa began her career at Arthur Andersen, LLP, where she worked in both the audit and tax departments before becoming a business consultant to small and emerging businesses. Her final assignment at Arthur Anderson was as the director of audit operations for the Great Lakes Market Circle. Lisa earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Miami University. Lisa is the founding chairperson for the Human Resources Outsourcing Association’s Mid-Market Special Interest Group. She is also on the board of the Global Center of Greater Cincinnati, and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accounts.

Mark Contreras, 47, was named senior vice president/newspapers in March 2006. He oversees the day-to-day operation and strategic direction of the Scripps newspaper division, which includes 28 daily and community newspapers and related businesses. He joined Scripps in January 2005 as vice president/newspaper operations after serving five years as a senior vice president of Pulitzer, Inc., with oversight responsibilities for Pulitzer Newspapers and the company's 50 percent interest in the Tucson Newspaper Agency. He began his newspaper career in 1988 as marketing services manager for The Oakland Press in Pontiac, Mich. A year later he joined The Kansas City Star, serving four years as metro circulation manager and one year as retail display advertising director. From 1994 to 1999 Mark was president and publisher of The Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Mark is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, earning a master's in business administration in 1988. He earned a bachelor's degree in history at the University of Chicago. He has completed the advanced executive program at Northwestern University's Newspaper Management Center and was selected by The Aspen Institute as a Henry Crown Fellow. Mark is Chairman of The American Press Institute. He serves as Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the board of the Newspaper Association of America. He is a board member of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts and a member of the National Association of Minority Media Executives. Mark is a trustee of the Scripps Howard Foundation.

Mike Hales, 44, is vice president of audit and compliance for The E. W. Scripps Company. Prior to assuming his current role, Mike served as the director of controls and compliance, where he oversaw the finance and IT Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts. Before joining the Scripps corporate office in 1990, Mike served as director of finance for the Evansville Courier Company from 2001-2004; controller for the Denver Newspaper Agency in 2001; controller of the Rocky Mountain News from 1998-2000; audit and consulting services manager from 1992-1998; and internal audit senior from 1990-1992. Mike began his professional career as an audit senior with the Cincinnati office of Ernst & Young. Mike graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant in the state of Ohio.

Tim King, 43, is vice president of corporate communications and investor relations and oversees the Scripps National Spelling Bee for The E. W. Scripps Company. After six years in political communications in Washington, D.C. and Frankfort, Ky., Tim joined Scripps for the first time in 1993 as manager of corporate communications. He left in 1997 to hold director-level corporate communications positions in Boston at Harcourt General and its 54%-owned subsidiary, The Neiman Marcus Group; and in Lexington, Ky., at Lexmark International. Tim returned to Scripps in 2005 as director of employee communications. Since the summer of 2006, he has served as the company’s first liaison to the Scripps family. Tim has a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky, serves on the advisory board of the College of Communications at Eastern Kentucky University, and has guided class projects in the communications department at Georgetown (Ky.) College since 2003. He currently serves on the board of the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati, and has served on six education-related nonprofits since the mid-1990s.

Bill Appleton, 60, is senior vice president and general counsel of The E. W. Scripps Company. He joined Scripps in 2008. Upon graduation from New York University Law School, Bill began his career in 1978 with the law firm Baker Hostetler LLP. He opened the firm’s Cincinnati office in 1997 and served as the partner-in-charge there from January 2003 to May 2008. At Baker Hostetler, Bill managed the legal work in mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs, and reorganizations involving public and private companies. He counseled companies with respect to corporate governance, takeover defense matters, public offerings, and compliance with securities laws. Bill is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in America and The Best Lawyers in America. He was recognized as a member of BTI Consulting Group's 2007 "Client Service All-Star Team for Law Firms," a designation shared by only 113 lawyers in the United States. A past member of the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Opera, Bill is a current member of the YWCA's Racial Justice Sub-Committee, which sponsors the annual Heart-to-Heart Breakfast to promote racial justice in Cincinnati.

Brian Lawlor, 42, is senior vice president of the television division for The E. W. Scripps Company. The television division includes 10 stations plus Internet and digital businesses in nine large U.S. markets. Prior to assuming this position, Brian was the corporate vice president of sales for the division. Six of the stations are affiliated with the ABC television network, three are NBC affiliates, and one is an independent. On a segment-profit basis, the television division was the company's largest in 2008. Prior to leading sales, Brian served for four years as vice president and general manager of WPTV, the Scripps NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach. During Brian's tenure, he launched multiple news and weather Web sites, a 24-hour digital weather channel, and South Florida's first high-definition local newscasts. Brian began with the company as a WPTV account executive in the early 1990s. In 1998 he was named local sales manager. In 2000, Brian moved to Ohio to be the general sales manager at WCPO, the Scripps-owned ABC affiliate in Cincinnati. Four years later, he returned to WPTV as vice president and general manager. Brian holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., and an MBA from the University of Miami. He is active in the television industry, sitting on the NBC Affiliates Board; and acting as the board liaison to the NBC promotion and NBC NewsChannel boards.

Mr. Burleigh has served as a director of E.W. Scripps since 1990 and has been Chairman of the company since 1999. He served as Chief Executive Officer from May 1996 to September 2000, President from August 1994 to January 2000, Chief Operating Officer from May 1994 to May 1996, Executive Vice President from March 1990 through May 1994 and Senior Vice President/Newspapers and Publishing from September 1986 to March 1990. Mr. Burleigh is also a director of Ohio National Financial Services Company.

J. Marvin Quin is a retired Chief Financial Officer for Ashland Inc. He worked for Ashland for 36 years until May 2008. Mr. Quin became treasurer in 1983 and was promoted to CFO in 1992. During his tenure as CFO, Ashland transformed itself from a diversified regional petroleum refiner into a recognized leader in the chemical industry.

Mr. Burlingame has been a director of E.W. Scripps since 1988 and is a trustee of The Edward W. Scripps Trust, the controlling shareholder of E.W. Scripps. From 1963 to 2003 he was a partner in the law firm of Baker & Hostetler LLP, serving as its Executive Partner from 1982 to 1997.

Ms. Williams is a retired Senior Vice President, Partner, and Associate Director of Global Industry Research at Wellington Management Company, LLP where she served as Senior Vice President, Partner, Global Industry Analyst, from 1995 to 2001 and Vice President, Global Industry Analyst from 1986 to 1995. From 1982-1985, she was Vice President Industry Analyst at Loomis, Sayles & Co., Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to that, Ms. Williams was an Investment Analyst at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Pension Fund in London, England.

Ms. Peirce is a trustee of The Edward W. Scripps Trust. She is the daughter of Margaret Scripps Buzzelli, a granddaughter of the company’s founder. Ms. Peirce has held prominent leadership roles in Scripps family affairs, including past chairmanship of the family’s annual business meeting and current service on the family’s media relations and ethics committees.

Mr. Scripps has been a director of E.W. Scripps since 1986 and is a director emeritus of the Scripps Howard Foundation, the Company’s philanthropic arm. He served as a Vice President of the Newspaper Division of the Company from November 1997 to December 2001 and as Chairman from December 1989 to June 1997 of a subsidiary of the Company.
