Michael P. Gallagher is vice president of Asset Management for Sempra Generation, which operates power plants for the competitive market in North America.
As vice president of Asset Management, Gallagher is responsible for the operation of Sempra Generation's power plants, which total over 2,600 megawatts at four natural gas-fueled facilities.
Gallagher has more than 20 years of experience in the power-generation industry. He came to Sempra from Sterling Energy Operations where he was a partner and director for seven years. During his time at Sterling he was responsible for the mobilization and origination of nine new business entities in the United States and internationally.
He joined Sempra Generation in a consulting role in the spring of 2002 and was responsible for helping mobilize Sempra Generation's western fleet as the organization transitioned from construction through start-up into commercial operations. His group at Sterling also assisted in the transition of ownership of Twin Oaks Power and other Texas assets. He also served as Sempra Generation's director of Plant Operations.
Before joining Sterling Energy, Gallagher spent 11 years with Duke Energy. During that time he worked in the nuclear group at McGuire Nuclear Station and, as a charter member of Duke/Fluor Daniel, in the non-regulated side of Duke. He left the company in 1999 after serving as director and plant manager for one of the most remote utilities in the world located in Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Gallagher is a mechanical engineer and began his professional career in the United States Naval Nuclear Power Program where he served on board the USS Batfish (SSN681).
