Seniors everywhere look to Ventas in their twilight years. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Louisville, KY, Ventas, Inc. (NYSE: VTR) is a REIT focusing on healthcare and senior care properties. The company owns over 500 nursing facilities, hospitals, senior housing complexes, and other facilities. Its properties are located in about 43 US states and 2 Canadian provinces. Most are leased to Kindred Healthcare, its former corporate sibling. The company has annual revenue of about $332.9 million and employs about 30 people. In 2005, it acquired Provident Senior Living Trust, another REIT for $1.2 billion. In 2007, it acquired the assets of Sunrise Senior Living REIT for approximately $2.0 billion.
