Saturn's moon Titan looks like a primitive Earth
PARIS AFP — A historic mission to Titan, Saturn's largest moon, has revealed a chemical hell of great complexity which somewhat resembles the forces that helped sculpt the infant Earth, scientists said. In its parachute-braked descent to Titan's surface on January 14, the European Space Agency ESA probe Huygens...
Liquid methane found on Titan, a 'flammable world'
PARIS AFP — The European robot lab Huygens found liquid methane on the Saturn satellite Titan, a chemical that seems to have shaped the moon's peculiar landscape and weather system, scientists said in their first detailed assessment of the probe's mission. "We've got a flammable world. It's quite extraordinary,"...
Probe shows Titan has lakes and rivers
DARMSTADT, Germany -- It is a desperately cold, forbidding landscape, where water ice becomes fist-size chunks of stone, but scientists said Saturday that Saturn's remote moon Titan may have one thing found nowhere else in the solar system besides Earth -- lakes and rivers. "I'm just staggered by...
After seven years, European probe set to land on Saturn moon
DARMSTADT, Germany AFP — The European probe Huygens was due to descend to the surface of the Saturnian moon Titan, culminating a mission of more than seven years to explore one of the Solar System's great enigmas. Fitted with an array of ultra-sophisticated sensors, the 319-kilo (702-pound) craft was...

Jan. 14 is a Saturn-day for Titan moon probe
On target for Titan, Saturn's haze-shrouded moon, the Huygens space probe is headed for a mystery-packed landing. The European Space Agency's Huygens lander detached from the international Cassini spacecraft on Christmas Eve and now speeds toward Titan on a precise trajectory to enter the moon's orange-tinged atmosphere. Whether the...
