Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Chicago, IL, eCollege.com provides colleges and universities with outsourced student information services. The company operates in two segments: eLearning and Enrollment. Its eLearning segment designs online applications for managing class registration, conducting lectures and discussions, grading and testing, enhancing student and teacher interaction, standardizing class content, help desk services provision, and other services. Its Enrollment segment provides marketing, media placement, student retention, and other services to improve student enrollment. It sells to colleges, universities, high schools, for-profit education providers, education agencies, and others. The company had 2005 revenue of about $102.9 million and about 520 full-time employees. Bob Haimes currently serves as chief marketing officer of Datamark, Inc. He assumed this position after serving as Datamark's COO. Vance Allen, who joined eCollege in 1997 as a software engineer, helped build eCollege's first course management system, and has since played a critical role in the advancement of eCollege's technology infrastructure. As CTO, Allen oversees production and infrastructure, software architecture, program administration and all development activities for eCollege's eLearning and Enrollment Divisions, as well as Quality Assurance and offshore development operations. Prior to his promotion to CTO, Allen served as vice president and managing director of software and technology where he was responsible for software development. During his tenure with eCollege, he also has served as a development manager where he led the re-architecting of the course platform to a Microsoft solution; director of software engineering where he helped develop the campus portal and administrative pages software products; and vice president of software engineering, where he continued to advance the eCollege system to where it is today.
