Michael A. Mussallem, age 55, has been chairman and CEO since 2000. Prior to 2000, Mussallem held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in engineering, product development and senior management at Baxter International Inc., including Group Vice President of its CardioVascular business from 1994 to 2000 and Group Vice President of the Biopharmaceutical business from 1998 to 2000. From 1996 until 1998, he was the Chairman of Baxter's Asia Board overseeing Baxter's operations throughout Asia. Mussallem received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and was conferred an honorary doctorate by his alma mater in 1999. Mussallem is chairman of the board of directors of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), and serves as a member of the board for Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. He is also on the boards and executive committees of the California Healthcare Institute and OCTANe, and is a trustee of the University of California, Irvine Foundation. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1974 and an honorary doctorate in 1999 from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Thomas M. Abate, age 53. Prior to his assuming his current role in 2006, Abate had been operating as Edwards' Corporate Controller, and served an instrumental role in the company's spin-off from Baxter in 2000. He previously served as Group Controller for Baxter's CardioVascular Group and also worked in a global capacity as Vice President of Finance for Clintec International, a joint venture with Baxter and Nestle based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Abate, who earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Northern Illinois University, served in a series of finance positions of increasing responsibility during his tenure at Baxter since 1982 and at Edwards.
Anita B. Bessler, age 59. From 2000 to 2001, she served as Corporate Vice President, Cardiac Surgery of the company. Bessler joined Baxter in 1988 as Vice President and General Manager of Sales and Marketing for Baxter's Hyland division, and in 1991 became President, Cardiac Surgery for Baxter's CardioVascular business. Prior to her tenure with Baxter, from 1986 until 1988 she was Senior Executive Vice President with the USV/Armour Pharmaceutical Division of Rhone Poulenc Rohrer. From 1976 until 1986, Bessler held senior management positions with Revlon's Healthcare Group. She is a graduate of Indiana University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and economics.
Bruce P. Garren, age 61, has been General Counsel since 2000. Previously, he was Senior Vice President-General Counsel for Safeskin Corporation, a San Diego-based manufacturer of latex and synthetic gloves for the healthcare and scientific markets. Prior to that he was Vice President-General Counsel of Tambrands Inc., now part of The Procter & Gamble Company. Garren was with the law firm of Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. from 1980 to 1985. Carlyn D. Solomon, age 45, corporate vice president, Critical Care and Vascular, is responsible for Edwards Lifesciences’ global market-leading Critical Care business, as well as its base Vascular business. Solomon has 25 years of leadership experience in the medical device, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining Edwards in June 2005, he served in a number of positions with increasing responsibility at Baxter Healthcare Corporation, including interim president of the company’s $3 billion BioScience Division, vice president of Global Manufacturing, and vice president of Global Operations. John H. Kehl Jr., age 54. Kehl held various positions of increasing responsibility at Baxter since joining its Treasury department in 1975. In 1980, he was promoted to Manager of Investor Relations and Communications and, in 1985, assumed responsibility for directing all aspects of Baxter’s external communications. Larry Wood, age 42, is responsible for the company’s key initiatives in transcatheter heart valve replacement. These responsibilities include a team in Irvine as well as the PVT Limited facility in Israel. Most recently, from March 2004 to February 2007, Wood served as Vice President and General Manager responsible for the valve replacement programs within the Percutaneous Valve Interventions department. Paul C. Redmond, age 44, is responsible for the global Cardiac Surgery Systems operations at Edwards, executing on the company's growth vision for minimally invasive heart valve surgery. With more than 22 years of experience, the vast majority at a senior level within the medical device industry, Redmond most recently served as General Manager of Edwards' Vascular business, with responsibility for Edwards' global Base Vascular and Peripheral Vascular Stent (PVS) operations. Prior to joining Edwards, Redmond was Vice President, CardioVascular Technologies, at Cordis Cardiology, a Johnson & Johnson company. Dr. Adams has authored over 200 publications, holds two patents, and is recognized as a leading surgeon scientist and medical expert, serving on the Editorial Boards of several prominent journals including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Piet Jansen joined WorldHeart in February 2004 as Chief Medical Officer and was appointed Managing Director of WorldHeart's European Operations in July 2004.

Mike R. Bowlin served as Chairman of Atlantic Richfield Company from 1995 until his retirement in April 2000. In addition, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer from July 1994 until April 2000. From 1992 until his election to Chief Executive Officer of ARCO in 1994, Mr. Bowlin served as Executive Vice President and then as President and Chief Operating Officer of ARCO. Mr. Bowlin joined ARCO in 1969 and became President of ARCO Coal Company in 1985. He served as ARCO International Oil and Gas Company's Senior Vice President from 1987 to 1992 and President from 1992 to 1993. Mr. Bowlin serves on the Board of Directors of Edwards Lifesciences Corporation and Horizon Health Company. He is a Trustee of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and a former Chairman of the Board of API.

Before entering the healthcare industry, Bill was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Bill earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. In February 2002, the Orange County Engineering Council named Bill "Engineer of the Year."
