Jeffrey Phillips is Senior Program Manager, Advanced Generation at Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Dr. Phillips began his involvement with the Institute in graduate school, providing support to an EPRI-sponsored project as part of his PhD research. He joined EPRI's CoalFleet program in 2004 after working for 18 years on gasification and combined-cycle projects for the Royal Dutch Shell group, Molten Metal Technology, and Fern Engineering. Dr. Phillips holds a BA in mathematics from Austin College, a BS in mechanical engineering from Washington University, and MS and PhD degrees from Stanford University, also in mechanical engineering.

Marek J. Samotyj is a Program Manager at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). He currently manages energy efficiency efforts. He was instrumental in development and implementation of R&D plan for IntelliGrid Consortium, public-private initiative established by EPRI in 2001. Before that, he held a position of the Business Line Manager responsible for EPRI Retail Sector's Technical and Business Services. He was also a Power Quality Product Line Team Leader. He joined the Institute in 1985. As a project manager, he was responsible for the applications and field testing of adjustable speed drives and conducted research in the areas of power quality and end-use electromagnetic compatibility. Before coming to EPRI, Mr. Samotyj was a Research Assistant to the Energy Modeling Forum at Stanford University (1982-1985). Mr. Samotyj received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Silesian University of Technology, Poland. He received an M.S. degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University, California. From 1981 to 1982, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar, and a Fellow of the Professional Journalism Program at Stanford University.

William is currently an Associate Fellow of Chatham House where he is working with a range of different funding organisations on a project to look at the impact of climate policy uncertainty on investment decisions in the energy sector. Since setting up Oxford Energy Associates, he has also worked with the Electric Power Research Institute and Shell. Until October 2004, William was working at the International Energy Agency in Paris where he carried out policy analysis for the IEA committee responsible for energy and climate change policy issues, as well as the Annex I Experts Group, a committee of international climate negotiators. During his time at the IEA, William wrote several papers on issues ranging from green investment schemes, linking of emissions trading schemes and a framework for assessing interactions between climate change policies and energy security policies. In addition he contributed to the expert in-depth review of Sweden's energy policy, as well as the UNFCCC's review of the third national communication of the EU. Prior to joining the IEA, William worked for a short period at the European Environment Agency where he worked as Project Manager on Energy and Environment. Prior to that he worked for over 8 years at one of Europe's largest environmental consultancies - AEA Technology where he worked with a wide range of companies helping them develop suitable response strategies to new climate change policies. William has a DPhil in Physics from Oxford University.

Dr. Ernest Moniz is the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he has served on the faculty since 1973. At MIT, he served as Head of the Department of Physics and Director of the Bates Linear Accelerator Center, and is currently Co-Director of the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment and Director of the MIT Energy Initiative. From October 1997 to January 2001, he was Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, responsible for the Offices of Science; Fossil Energy; Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology; Environmental Management; and Civilian Radioactive Waste Management. He was the Department s lead negotiator for cooperative programs with Russia dealing with nuclear weapons material control and disposition. Dr. Moniz also served from 1995 to 1997 as Associate Director for Science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President. He previously served as a Director of the Company from 1990 to 1995. Dr. Moniz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Boston College, a doctorate in theoretical physics from Stanford University, and honorary doctorates from the University of Athens, the University of Erlangen-Nurenburg, and Michigan State University. Dr. Moniz is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Humboldt Foundation, and the American Physical Society and is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He serves on the Boards of the Jefferson Science Associates, LLC and Nexant, Inc. He serves on corporate technology advisory councils at BP plc and Cummins, Inc.

Kathryn J. "Kate" Jackson is the Executive Advisor on Alternate Energy Policy to President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Kilgore. She is responsible for TVA's plans to directly address energy efficiency, load-shaping, and renewable resources. She was previously the Executive Vice President of River System Operations & Environment. Before joining TVA in 1991, Jackson completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Academy of Engineering in Washington, D.C. She previously held positions with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Alcoa Industries as a design engineer, project/marketing engineer, and technology forecaster. Jackson serves on advisory boards of the Sloan Foundation/Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center and the Carnegie Mellon University School of Engineering and is on the board of directors of the Electric Power Research Institute. She is a member of the President's National Science and Technology Council and served as a presidential appointee to the National Recreation Lakes Study Commission.

Mark T. Savoff, Executive Vice President, Operations Mark Savoff joined Entergy in December 2003 as executive vice president of Entergy operations. In his role at Entergy he is responsible for the business operations of fossil generation, transmission operations, system safety and environment, supply chain, system planning, and performance management. Savoff serves as a member of the office of the chief executive and officer of numerous Entergy subsidiaries. He is also responsible for driving three key initiatives within the company: environmental policy, generation portfolio transformation and Entergy Continuous Improvement. The portfolio transformation effort focuses on reducing production costs. This includes new solid fuel generation, potential nuclear build as well as other power plant acquisitions. ECI is focused on engaging all employees to drive productivity in their respective areas. Prior to joining Entergy, Savoff was vice president and corporate officer at GE Power Systems, Nuclear Energy, San Jose, Calif. During his tenure with GE Nuclear, Savoff led the implementation of a successful joint venture with Hitachi and Toshiba that increased fuel sales 46 percent. He drove the business to attain consistent revenues of $1 billion and increased profitability 18 percent over a three-year period by focusing on key operating metrics, customer satisfaction and quality through six sigma methodology. In 2002, GE Nuclear achieved a Power Systems’ best injury and illness rate. The company has received OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program Star certification at a number of facilities. In addition, under his leadership, the business increased its organizational diversity to 47 percent for entry-level positions and 44 percent for experienced hires. Savoff’s career at GE spanned 25 years and included many leadership positions. Prior to his promotion to vice president of nuclear energy, he was general manager of GE’s global nuclear fuel business and led the turnaround of GE’s global nuclear services business. He also served as president of Reuter-Stokes, a wholly-owned GE subsidiary that supplies environmental and gas turbine monitoring equipment, components for radiation detectors, harsh environment sensors, and sensors for monitoring nuclear power plant output. A graduate of the University of Florida, Savoff holds a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering. He is on the board of directors of Construction Navigator, the Electric Power Research Institute and the Southeastern Electric Exchange. He is also a member of the advisory counsel for the University of Florida School of Nuclear Engineering and the dean’s advisory board for the College of Engineering. He previously served as a member of the boards of the Nuclear Energy Institute, Reuter-Stokes and Global Nuclear Fuel. Savoff is greenbelt certified in Six Sigma.

Maxine L. Savitz advises on research and development management, energy and environmental policy, materials development, production and utilization, and technology transfer. Her areas of expertise also include energy efficiency R&D and products in the transportation, industry, and buildings sectors; aerospace technology; and, integration of R&D between laboratories and business units. Dr. Savitz is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Conservation, U.S. Department of Energy. She received the Outstanding Service Medal from the Department of Energy in 1981. Prior to her DOE service, she was program manager for Research Applied to National Needs at the National Science Foundation. Following her government service, Dr. Savitz served in executive positions in the private sector, including: President of Lighting Research Institute, assistant to the vice president for engineering at The Garrett Corporation, and General Manager of AlliedSignal Ceramic Components. She recently retired from the position of General Manager for Technology Partnerships at Honeywell. Dr. Savitz is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Association of for the Advancement of Science. She was appointed to the National Science Board in 1998. She is a member of the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board, the Department of Energy's Laboratory Operations Board, and advisory bodies for Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Susan Tierney, Ph.D., joined our board of directors in December 2001. Dr. Tierney is currently a managing principal of Analysis Group Inc. where she specializes in energy industry issues. Dr. Tierney served as Senior Vice President of Lexecon Inc. from 1995 to 2003. Dr. Tierney is Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Energy Foundation and Clean Air-Cool Planet, non-profit organizations. Additionally, she is a director of the following non-profit organizations: American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), Climate Policy Center, and the Northeast States Center for a Clean Air Future. During 2004, she was also Chairperson of the board for the Electricity Innovation Institute (a subsidiary of EPRI). Before joining Lexecon (and its predecessor company, the Economics Resource Group) in November 1995, Dr. Tierney served in senior positions in federal and state government from 1983 until 1995, most recently as assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Energy, Secretary of Environmental Affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Previously, she was an assistant professor at the University of California, Irvine from 1978 until 1982. Dr. Tierney has a Ph.D. and a Masters degree in regional planning from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree from Scripps College.

During his tenure with BP Amoco, Dr. Quanstrom served as a member of the company's top 35 executives, chaired the company's Health, Safety, and Environment Council, and was responsible for policy and governance in the areas of health, environment and safety. Dr. Quanstrom has previously served as a director of the Chicago Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Keystone Center and Chairman of the Board of Directors of VYSIS, a publicly traded company listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange. Additionally, Dr. Quanstrom was an Adjunct Professor of Management and Strategy at the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management, where he developed and taught an elective MBA course in environmental management. Herjinder Hawkins is the Manager of Renewable Energy and Technologies group at Salt River Project, Tempe, Arizona. SRP is the third largest public power company in the United States. Skiles Boyd, 53, is vice president of environmental management and resources at DTE
Energy (NYSE:DTE), a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the
development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide.
Boyd is responsible for managing the company’s environmental issues which include
setting environmental policy, representing the company on environmental issues with the
public and in environmental regulatory and legislative development, coordinating
environmental studies and conducting environmental audits. He manages a department of
approximately 77 people. Boyd has worked in DTE’s environmental department for over
27 years.
Boyd earned a bachelor of science degree in environmental resource management from
Pennsylvania State University and a master of business administration degree from Wayne
State University.
Boyd is active in the Air and Waste Management Association and the environmental
committees of the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Michigan and Greater Detroit
Chambers of Commerce, the Electric Power Research Institute, The Edison Electric
Institute (vice chair of the Executive Environmental Advisory Committee), the Center for
Energy and Economic Development, and the Business Environmental Leadership Council
of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. He is also on the board of the Council of
