Mr. Beattie has dedicated himself to building an organization that is entrepreneurial in spirit, utilizes a team-based approach, focusing on the needs of both its consumers and its retail partners and counts and treats its employees as its most valued resource. Prior to his involvement with Elizabeth Arden, Mr. Beattie was a managing director of the Company's financial sponsor, Bedford Capital Corporation. As a founding partner of Bedford Capital, he was on numerous boards of directors of both private and public companies, and was instrumental in creating private equity ventures for two Bedford funds in excess of 30% compounded annually. Prior to co-founding Bedford Capital in 1990, Mr. Beattie served as a Vice President in the Mergers and Acquisitions group of Merrill Lynch, Inc. and as a Manager of Accenture Consulting. In addition to building the Elizabeth Arden business, Mr. Beattie has made the support of charitable endeavors fundamental to the Arden culture. To that end, Elizabeth Arden participates in many programs globally that support a wide-range of charities, including Look Good.. Feel Better, AmeriCares, Make a Wish Foundation and Childhelp USA. This October the company will support Breast Cancer Awareness month with an Unlock the Cure promotion where proceeds of each sale of Red Door Revealed Touch-on Pen benefit Cancer and Careers. Mr. Beattie is also actively involved and committed to education reform initiatives. This is evidenced by his participation for years in the Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning (PENCIL) program. PENCIL mobilizes private sector leaders to establish long term mentoring and support relationships with New York City public schools. This has led to a strong relationship between Elizabeth Arden and MS 142, the John Phillips Sousa Middle School in the Bronx. The school has affectionately taken on the nickname the Red Door School, after the company's iconic logo, and Mr. Beattie has acted as its visiting Principal on a number of occasions. Mr. Beattie holds an MBA and a degree in Honors Business Administration from The Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Mr. Beattie currently serves on the board and executive committee of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA), and the board of directors of The Fragrance Foundation, Bedford Capital Corporation, Object Video, Inc. and the Ivey School of Business. Mr. Beattie has received numerous awards of recognition, including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist (2003), CTFA honored executive (2005), WWD Beauty Biz Most Innovative Marketer of the Year (2006), and numerous awards of recognition on behalf of Elizabeth Arden, Inc.
